इतनी कथा सुना कर नारद जी ने कहा है संसार को उत्पन्न करने वाले ब्रह्मा जी मेरी यह अभिलाषा है मुझे सुमति नामक स्त्री तथा इंद्र प्रदुमन नामक राजा की कथा विस्तार पूर्वक सुनाएं यह सुनकर ब्रह्मा जी बोले ही पुत्र सुनो सुमति एक ब्राह्मणी का नाम था उसे कैकई भी कहते थे उसके पिता ने एक श्रेष्ठ ब्राह्मण के साथ उसका विवाह किया था वह अपने पति के साथ रहकर अनेक प्रकार के बिहार करते रही उसे समय पश्चात उसके पति की मृत्यु हो गई थोड़े दिन तक तो वह सांसारिक रीति के अनुसार शक मानती रही परंतु जब उसे कामदेव सताने लगे तब वह बेबी चारिणी बन गई नारद तब वह बच्चे चरणी घूमती घूमती एक वैन में जा पहुंची वहां उसके भेद एक शुद्ध से हुई शुद्ध उसे अपने घर ले आया और अपनी स्त्री के सामान रखने लग वह अपने पुरातन धर्म को भूल बैठी एक दिन हुआ शुद्ध किसी काम से घर से बाहर चला गया तब वह स्वतंत्र होकर अनेक प्रकार के हिंदुस्तान करने लगे एक समय की बात है कि उसने मध्य आप पहन करके मांस खाने की इच्छा की और गौशाला में पहुंच खरीद दूसरे को तलवार से मार डाला यदि अभी उसे समय अंधेरा होने के कारण वह यह नहीं जान सकी थी कि मैं बर्थडे को मार रही परंतु जब उसे या पता चल गया कि मैं बछड़े मारा है तो वह चिंतित होकर शिव शिव कहने लगी इसके बाद वह उसे बछड़े को मांस को खो गई और सबके समक्ष या बात प्रसिद्ध कर दी कि उसे सिंह ने मार डाला है अस्तु जब उसकी मृत्यु का समय आया तो यमराज के गांड उसे पहनकर यमराज के समीप ले गए यह ने उसके नरक में ना भेज कर एक चांडाल के घर जन्म दे दिया वहां वह माता-पिता से ही आंधी तथा कुष्ठ रोग से ग्रस्त होने के कारण अत्यंत दुख को प्राप्त हुए उसके देना स्पर्श रूप को देखकर किसी ने भी उसके साथ विवाह करना स्वीकार नहीं किया नारद वह चांडलो की जूठन खाकर अपना पेट भर करती थी इस प्रकार उसकी बालियान अवस्था तथा युवावस्था दोनों ही दुख में बिता वृद्धावस्थ आने पर भी उसे सुख प्राप्त नहीं हुआ एक दिन वह अपनी दशा पर विचार करके इतना अधिक रॉय की उसकी आंखों से आंसू की नदी जैसी वह वह निकली तब भगवान सदा शिव ने यह चरित्र किया कि वह चांदली अन्य लोगों के साथ मांगती खाती हुई किसी प्रकार गोद क्षेत्र में जा पहुंची उसे दिन हुआ महान कृष्ण चतुर्दशी का मेला लगा था और सभी लोग ने व्रत धारण किया हुआ था वह उसे चांदनी में भोजन के लिए बहुत कुछ याचना की परंतु किसी ने भी उसे खाने को नहीं दिया परंतु एक मनुष्य ने उसके हाथ पैर थोड़े बिलाव पत्र रख दिए जब उसने यह देखा कि इस पेट में कोई खाने पीने की वस्तु नहीं है तो उसने पृथ्वी पर फेंक दिया यह वास हुए बिल्ला पत्र एक शिवलिंग के ऊपर जा पड़े इस अभियान अवस्था के पुणे के कारण उसके संपूर्ण पाप समाप्त हो गए उसे दिन उसने खाने-पीने के लिए कुछ नहीं मिला था और उसका निर्जला अपराध भी हो गया इसी दुख के कारण उसने रात भर नींद भी नहीं आई जिससे वह जागरण का फल प्राप्त करने की भी अधिकार नहीं हुई प्रातः काल होने पर भी जब उसने उसे कोई खाने पीने की वस्तु न मिली तो वह व्याकुल होकर अपने घर को लौट चली परंतु मार्ग में ही उसकी मृत्यु हो गई है नारद इस आज्ञा अवस्था की भक्ति शिव जी उसके ऊपर अध्ययन प्रसन्न हुए और उन्होंने अपने गानों को यह आज्ञा दी कि तुम लोग उसे चांडाल ने को विमान पर बैठ कर हमारे लोग को ले आओ तब शिवजी की आज्ञा अनुसार शिवगन उसे भी विमान पर बैठ कर शिवलोक में पहुंचे शिवजी तथा गिरिजा जी ने उसके ऊपर अत्यंत कृपा की साधु प्रांत पार्वती जी ने उसे अपनी दासी बना लिया है नारद इस प्रकार केवल दो बार शिव नाम का उच्चारण करने से ही सुमति को मुक्ति पर प्राप्त हुआ

After telling this story, Narad ji said that Brahma ji, who created the world, it is my desire that he should tell me the story of a woman named Sumati and a king named Indra Praduman in detail. Hearing this, Brahma ji said, son listen, Sumati was the name of a Brahmin woman, she was also called Kaikeyi, her father had married her to a great Brahmin, she lived with her husband and kept doing many types of activities. After some time her husband died, for some days she kept believing in God according to the worldly customs, but when Kaamdev started tormenting her, then she became Baby Charini. Narad then while roaming around, she reached a van, where she met a Shuddha, Shuddha brought her to his house and started keeping his wife's things. She forgot her ancient religion. One day Shuddha went out of the house for some work, then she became free and started doing many types of activities. It is a matter of time that she wished to eat meat wearing a cloth and went to the cowshed and killed the other with a sword. Due to it being dark, she could not know that she was killing a child, but when she came to know about it, she was not able to know that she was killing a child. When she came to know that I have killed a calf, she became worried and started saying Shiv Shiv. After this, she ate the meat of the calf and made it known to everyone that a lion had killed it. So when the time of her death came, Yamraj took her to Yamraj wearing his clothes. Instead of sending her to hell, she was born in a Chandal's house. There she suffered a lot due to being afflicted by storm and leprosy from her parents. Seeing her deformed form, no one agreed to marry her. Narad, she used to fill her stomach by eating the leftovers of Chandals. Thus, both her childhood and youth were spent in sorrow. Even when she became old, she did not get happiness. One day, thinking about her condition, she was so sad that a river of tears started flowing from her eyes. Then Lord Sada Shiv enacted this character that Chandali, along with other people, somehow reached the Laap region, begging and eating. It was day when the fair of the great Krishna Chaturdashi was organized and everyone was observing fast. He gave her a lot of food in the moonlight. She begged but nobody gave her anything to eat. But a man put some Bilva leaves on her hands and feet. When she saw that there was no food in her stomach, she threw them on the earth. These Bilva leaves fell on a Shivling. Due to the power of this Abhiyan state, all her sins were destroyed. She did not get anything to eat that day and she also committed the crime of staying without water. Due to this sorrow, she could not sleep the whole night, due to which she did not get the right to get the fruits of staying awake. Even when it was morning, when she did not get anything to eat, she became anxious and returned to her home, but she died on the way. Narad was pleased to see the devotion of this Ajna state and he ordered his men to call her a Chandal and bring our people by sitting on a plane. Then according to the order of Shivji, Shivgan also took her by sitting on a plane and reached Shivlok. Shivji and Girija ji showered immense mercy on her. Sadhu Parvati ji made her her maid. Narad thus only twice Sumati attained salvation only by uttering the name of Shiva
