ब्रह्मा जी ने कहा हे नारद पिछले कलयुग में इंद्र प्रदुमन नामक एक राजा अत्यंत बलवान हुआ था वह बुद्धिहीन ब्राह्मणों का विरोधी जीव हिंसक पापी सबका शत्रु तथा बुरे की स्वभाव का था उसके वेद के विरुद्ध आचरण कर देवताओं का पूजा जब तक दान आदि सबको त्याग दिया राजा भी उसके आचरण से अत्यंत दुखी थे वह शिकार खेलने के लिए जाता और अनेक निरह पशुओं का वध किया करता था हे नारद एक दिन राजा अपने मंत्री सहित वन में शिकार खेलने के लिए गया वहां उसने सैनिकों ने वैन में रहने वाले ऋषि मुनियों को वन से बाहर निकाल देने का प्रयत्न किया इस समय शिव जी की माया से एक महा भयानक सिहाने कहीं से आकर उसे राजा को एक ही चपेट में मार डाला और कोई भी उसकी रक्षा न कर सका जब हम ब्लूटूथ राजा को लेने के लिए पहुंचे तभी शिवजी की आज्ञा अनुसार शिवगन भी उसे लेने जा पहुंचे हुए राजा कोयंभूतों से छुड़ाकर शिवलोक में ले गए वहां जाते ही राजा शिवरूप हो गए तब शिवजी ने उसे प्रसन्नता पूर्वक अपने आधे आसन पर बैठकर इस प्रकार कहा है राजा तुम हमारे भक्त हो इसलिए तुम्हारे जो इच्छा हो वह वरदान उसे मांग लो शिव जी के मुख से ऐसे वचन सुनकर राजा की आंखों में प्रेम आंसुओं की वर्षा होने लगी वह मुख से कुछ नहीं बोला तब शिव जी ने उसे स्वयं ही वरदान देकर अपना गांड बना लिया तब से उनका नाम चांद हुआ मोदक नमक गांड से उसकी अत्यंत मित्रता हुई इस समय से झंडा का मर्डोक ने शिवजी के गांव में प्रमुख स्थान प्राप्त किया हे नारद शिव जी के भक्तों को उचित है कि जब वह शिवजी की पूजा अथवा अध्यप करें तो अन्य दिशा में चंद मुंड का पूजन अवश्य कर लिया करें क्योंकि इन गानों की पूजा से शिवजी अत्यंत प्रसन्न होकर अपने भक्तों के मनोरथ को पूर्ण करते हैं राजा इंद्र प्रद्युमन को ऐसा सुख प्राप्त केवल एक बार शिव जी के नाम लेने के कारण ही मिल गया यदि अभी उसने जानबूझकर भी वह नाम नहीं लिया केवल एक बार ही उसके मुख से आहार परिहार शब्द निकला था जिस समय उसने साफ शब्दों का उच्चारण किया था उसी समय सिहाने उसका वध किया था आहार परिहार शब्द का उच्चारण करने से ही उसे इस पद की प्राप्ति हुई क्योंकि यह शब्द भी शिवजी का एक नाम है आज तू यह भूतों को जब वह वृतांत ज्ञात हुआ तो उन्होंने चित्रगुप्त से इस वेद पूछा उसे समय चित्रगुप्त ने उन्हें यह बताया कि आहार परिहार शब्द का उच्चारण करने से ही राजा की को ऐसे श्रेष्ठ पद की प्राप्ति हुई है जो इस कथा को सुनता और पड़ता है उसे भी दोनों लोक में आनंद प्राप्त होता है

Brahma Ji said, O Narada, in the previous Kaliyug, a king named Indra Praduman was very powerful. He was mindless, opposed to Brahmins, violent, sinful, enemy of all and had a bad nature. He behaved against Vedas and abandoned worship of gods, charity etc. The king was also very unhappy with his behavior. He used to go for hunting and used to kill many helpless animals. O Narada, one day the king went to the forest with his minister for hunting. There his soldiers tried to drive out the sages and saints living in the forest. At this time, due to the illusion of Lord Shiva, a very terrifying lion came from somewhere and killed the king in one blow and no one could protect him. When we reached to take the king, then as per the order of Lord Shiva, Shivgan also reached to take him. King was rescued from the Koyambhutas and taken to Shivlok. As soon as he reached there, the king turned into Shiva. Then Lord Shiva happily sat on his half seat and said to him, King you are our devotee, so ask for any boon you wish from the face of Lord Shiva. Hearing such words, tears of love started pouring from the eyes of the king. He did not say anything. Then Shiv Ji himself blessed him and made him his donkey. From then on his name became Chand. He became very friendly with the donkey named Modak. From this time onwards, the Murdoch of Jhanda got a prominent place in Shiv Ji's village. O Narada, it is appropriate for the devotees of Shiv Ji that when they worship or recite Shiv Ji, they must worship Chand Mund in the other direction because Shiv Ji becomes very pleased with the worship of these donkeys and fulfils the wishes of his devotees. King Indra Pradyumna got such happiness only because of taking the name of Shiv Ji once. Even if he did not take that name intentionally, only once the word Aahar Parihar came out of his mouth. At the time when he uttered the words clearly, at the same time, Siha killed him. He got this position only by uttering the word Aahar Parihar because this word is also a name of Shiv Ji. Today when the ghosts came to know about this incident, they asked Chitragupt about this Veda. At that time, Chitragupt told them this. That the king has attained such a high position only by uttering the word Aahar Parihar. The one who listens and reads this story also gets happiness in both the worlds.
