श्री शिव महापुराण कथा आठवां खंड अध्याय 33

ब्रह्मा जी ने कहा हे पुत्र जब निर्गुण रूप का ज्ञान प्राप्त हो जाता है तब जीव के सभी कार्य छूट जाते हैं और उसे संपूर्ण लोग ब्रह्म रूप दिखाई देने लगते हैं यह ज्ञान अत्यंत कठिन तथा दुर्लभ भाई इसे कोई कोई सत्पुरुष ही जान पाते हैं अनेक जन्मों के अभ्यास द्वारा जोगियो को यह ज्ञान बहुत अल्प मात्रा में होता है एक दिन जब शिवजी ने संसार के कल्याण के निर्माता यह विचार किया कि ब्रह्मा ने हमारी आजा द्वारा सृष्टि को तो उत्पन्न किया परंतु ब्रह्मांड के जीव अपने कर्मों के बंदे रहकर हमारे स्वरूप को किस प्रकार जान सकेंगे तब उन्होंने यह लीला की की जी काशी को उन्होंने अपने त्रिशूल पर उठा रखा था उसे पुणे पृथ्वी पर स्थापित कर दिया तदुपरांत उन्होंने अपने लिंग अवीकृत अर्थात विश्वनाथ को काशी में स्थापित करके यह कहा काशी हमारा क्षेत्र है आज तू या कभी प्रलय काल में भी नष्ट नहीं होगा हमारी उत्पत्ति हमारे अंश में हुई है इसलिए यह हमें अत्यंत प्रिय है जो मनुष्य इस काशी के दर्शन करें वह आवागमन से छूट जाएगा और जो यहां की यात्रा करें वह परंपात को प्राप्त हुआ करेगा जब हम सब प्रकार पर लाइव किया करेंगे उसे समय इस काशी को अपने त्रिशूल पर उठाकर बचा लिया करेंगे दादू प्राण जब ब्रह्मा पुणे सृष्टि को उत्पन्न करेगा तब हम इसे फिर उसी स्थान पर स्थित कर दिया करेंगे अब तुम इस काशी में निवास करेंगे यहां की रक्षा करो हे नारद भगवान सदाशिव ने विश्वनाथ लिंग से यह कहा कारण है काशी सहित मृत्यु लोक में लाकर स्थापित कर दिया तभी से काशी पापों को नष्ट करने वाला प्रसिद्ध है विश्वनाथ ज्योतिर्लिंग संपूर्ण प्राणियों को भवसागर से पर उतर करता है उसे स्थान पर मुक्ति दास के सभी समान निवास किया करती है जो मनुष्य किसी भी प्रकार मोक्ष प्राप्त करने योग्य नहीं है उन्हें भी कभी खांसी मुक्ति प्रदान करती है भगवान सदाशिव की आज्ञा अनुसार काशी संपूर्ण दुखो को नष्ट करने में कुल्हाड़ी के समान है इस काशी को पकड़ विश्वनाथ जी भी अत्यंत प्रसन्न हुए तथा संपूर्ण संसार सारनाथ हो गया हे नारद जब विश्वनाथ जी काशी सहित लिंग रूप में प्रकट हुए तब मैं तथा विष्णु जी आपने घरे सहित शिव नाम का उच्चारण करते हुए उसे स्थान पर जा पहुंचे सब देवता देखभाल संकडिक तथा ऋषि सीढ़ियां सहित इंद्र भी वहां जा पहुंचे तब हम सब लोगों ने बड़ा उत्सव करके शुभ प्राप्त किया और उसे विश्वनाथ लिंग की पूजा की तदुपरांत जब सब लोगों ने मिलकर स्तुति कि उसे समय शिव जी ने अत्यंत प्रसन्न होकर हमें अपना दर्शन दिया शिवजी का वह स्वरूप अत्यंत सुंदर तथा चतुर्भुजी था उसके संपूर्ण गौरव शरीर पर सफेद भस्म लगी हुई और प्रत्येक अंक सुडौल थे हे नारद भगवान सदाशिव के उसे स्वरूप को देखकर हम सब लोग कृतार्थ हो गए दादू प्रांत हमने उन्हें प्रणाम करते हुए यह स्तुति की है प्रभु आप इस काशीपुरी में सदैव स्थित रहे तथा यह क्षेत्र अभियुक्त के नाम से प्रसिद्ध हो आपका यह विश्वनाथ नमक लिंग सबसे श्रेष्ठ तथा पूर्ण आंशिकता है आज तो यह यहां पर सदैव स्थित रहे हम लोगों की इस प्रार्थना को सुनकर शिवजी ने एवं वास्तु कहा भक्ति तथा मंदिर में भी हमारे इस प्रार्थना को स्वीकार किया वह ज्योति लिंगो विश्वेश्वर विश्वनाथ तथा अभिव्यक्ति नाम से संसार में प्रसिद्ध है उनका दर्शन पूजन एवं स्मरण करने से संपूर्ण मनोकामना सिद्ध होती है तीनों लोकों में काशीपुरी के समान ना तो कोई दूसरी पूरी है और ना विश्वनाथ लिंग के समान में कोई लिंक है

Brahma Ji said O son, when the knowledge of the Nirgun form is attained, then all the works of the creature are left and all the people start appearing to him in Brahma form. This knowledge is very difficult and rare, brother. Only a few virtuous men are able to know it. Through the practice of many births, the Yogis acquire this knowledge in very little amount. One day when Shiv Ji, the creator of the welfare of the world, thought that Brahma created the world through our power, but how would the living beings of the universe, being the slaves of their deeds, know our form, then he performed this leela that he had lifted Kashi on his trident and placed it on the pure earth. Thereafter, he established his Linga Avikrit, that is, Vishwanath in Kashi and said that Kashi is our region. It will not be destroyed today or even during the time of apocalypse. We were born in our part. Therefore, it is very dear to us. The person who visits this Kashi will be freed from the cycle of birth and death and the one who visits this place will attain salvation. When we will live in all ways, then we will save this Kashi by lifting it on our trident. Dadu Pran, when Brahma When Pune will create the universe, then we will again establish it at the same place. Now you will reside in this Kashi and protect it. O Narada, Lord Sadashiv said this to Vishwanath Linga. The reason is that Kashi was brought to the mortal world and established there. Since then Kashi is famous for destroying sins. Vishwanath Jyotirlinga takes all the creatures from the worldly ocean. All the people reside at that place like the slave of salvation. The people who are not capable of attaining salvation in any way, they also get salvation. As per the order of Lord Sadashiv, Kashi is like an axe in destroying all the sorrows. Vishwanath ji was also very happy to see this Kashi and the whole world became Sarnath. O Narada, when Vishwanath ji appeared in the form of Linga along with Kashi, then I and Vishnu ji reached that place chanting the name of Shiva along with our homes. All the gods reached there along with Sankadik and sage Indra also reached there along with the stairs. Then all of us celebrated a big festival and got auspicious and worshipped Vishwanath Linga. After that when all the people together praised him. At that time Shiva was very pleased and gave us his darshan. That form of Shiva was very beautiful and four-armed. There was white ash on his entire proud body and each part was well shaped. O Narada, seeing that form of Lord Sadashiv, we all were fulfilled. Dadu Prant, paying obeisance to him, we have praised him this way - Lord, may you always reside in this Kashipuri and may this area become famous by the name of Aprikot. This Vishwanath linga of yours is the best and full devotion. Today, may it always remain situated here. Hearing this prayer of ours, Shiva accepted our prayer in Vastu, devotion and temple also. That Jyoti Lingo is famous in the world by the name of Vishveshwar Vishwanath and Abhivyakti. By seeing, worshipping and remembering him, all the wishes are fulfilled. In the three worlds, there is no other linga like Kashipuri and there is no link like Vishwanath linga.
