रावण बोला हे नारद जी सर्वप्रथम मैं कैलाश पर्वत पर तपस्या करने के निर्माता गया मैं वहां अग्नि प्रज्वलित कर अपने मस्तक को कट कट कर उसमें हवन करने लगा जिस समय मैं अपने नाम मस्तक काट चुका और 10 में मस्तक भी काटने को हुआ उसे समय शिवजी ने मुझे अपना दर्शन देकर किरदार किया तब मैंने उनसे यह वरदान मांगा की कोई भी देवता मुझ पर विजई ना हो सके शिवजी ने मुझे इच्छित वरदान दिया तथा मेरे मस्को को भी फिर से उत्पन्न करके और अनेक वरदान दिए उसे समय से मैं निर्भय होकर तीनों लोक का राज करता हूं इतनी कथा सुना कर ब्रह्मा जी ने कहा हे नारद रावण के मुख से यह वचन सुन कर तुम इस प्रकार बोले है रावण सच पूछ आ जाए तो शिवजी ने तुम्हारे ऊपर विशेष कृपा नहीं की क्योंकि हुए तुम्हारे घर नहीं आए उन्होंने प्रथम तो अपने लिंग रूप ही दिखाई दूसरे मार्ग में ही रह गए आज तो हम तुम्हें एक उपाय बताते हैं उसे करने से तुम सदैव निर्भय तथा प्रसन्न रहोगे यह सुनकर रावण ने पूछा वह उपाय क्या है तुमने उत्तर दिया है रावण तुम कैलाश पर्वत को ही उखाड़ कर यहां ले आओ शिव जी को कुबेर के सामने पढ़ते हुए बहुत दिन हो गए हैं आप उन्हें तुम्हारे पास जाकर रहना चाहिए शिवजी को भी यह उचित है कि वह तुम्हारे पास आकर रहे उनके यहां आ जाने पर तुम सदैव निर्भय तथा प्रसन्न बने रहोगे और वह हर समय तुम्हारी सहायता करते रहेंगे हे नारद इतना कह कर तुम रावण के पास चले गए आए और देवताओं को सब समाचार का सुनाया इस प्रकार रावण तुम्हारे माया से चला गया तब वह अत्यंत आकार में भरकर कैलाश पर्वत के सामने विचार पहुंच फिर उसने कैलाश पर्वत को जड़ से उखाड़ दिया जिसके कारण उसे पर्वत को सभी वस्तुएं हिलाकर नष्ट हो गई यह देखकर शिवजी ने अत्यंत आचार्य में भरकर पार्वती जी से पूछा है प्रिया यह क्या हो रहा है तब पार्वती जी ने उत्तर दिया है प्रभु आपके किसी सेवक से ही यह कार्य किया है अब आप अपने किए को अपने आंखों से देख लीजिए गिरजा कैसे वचन सुनकर शिव जी ने जब विचार करके देखा तो उसे ज्ञात हुआ कि यह कार्य रावण का है तब वह गिरजा से बोले है प्रिया आप मैं किसी को ऐसा वरदान नहीं दूंगा हे नारद गिरिजा ने इस प्रकार कहकर शिवजी ने रावण को श्राप देते हुए कहा है रावण तू जिन हाथों से हमारे कैलाश पर्वत को उखाड़ है उन हाथों को काटने वाला अब शीघ्र ही उत्पन्न होगा शिवजी यदि चाहते तो स्वयं भी रावण को नष्ट कर सकते थे परंतु यह नियम है कि स्वामी अपने सेवा का कभी अहित नहीं कर सकता जब रावण ने इस शराब को सुना तो उसने कैलाश पर्वत को इस स्थान पर पुणे पर रखा इंडिया तदुपरांत वहां कर में भर अपने घर लौट आया और ढूंढता पूर्वक राज करता हुआ अनेक प्रकार के अन्य करने लगा इस प्रकार सुभाष चरण के विपरीत चलकर उसने शिवजी की भक्ति को भी त्याग दिया हे नारद यह समाचार जब तुमने देवताओं को सुना तब विष्णु जी ने अत्यंत प्रसन्न हो समाचार पाकर राजा दशरथ के घर में मनुष्य अवतार लिया उसे समय हुए रामचंद्र नाम से संसार में प्रसिद्ध हुए बाल्यावस्था में रामचंद्र जी लक्ष्मण सहित विश्वामित्र के यज्ञ की रक्षा करने के लिए गए वहां उन्होंने लड़का नामक राक्षसी का वध किया दादू प्रांत उन्होंने जनकपुर में पहुंचकर धनुष तोड़ा तथा सीता के साथ विवाह किया जब राजा दशरथ ने उन्हें अपने राज का उत्तराधिकारी बनाना चाहा उसे समय देवताओं ने अनेक चरित्र करके भारत की माता कैकई की बुद्धि को नष्ट कर दिया जिसके कारण रामचंद्र लक्ष्मण तथा सीता सहित वनवास को चले गए उन्हें चित्रकूट तथा दंडक वन में ब्राह्मण करते हुए अनेक व्यक्तियों का संघार किया दादू प्रात जब रावण सीता को हर ले गया तो रामचंद्र जी अत्यंत दुखी होकर अगस्त्य ऋषि की सेवा में पहुंचे और उनकी आज्ञा अनुसार शिवजी का तप करने लगे तब शिव जी ने प्रसन्न होकर उन्हें अपना धनुष दिया और हनुमान के रूप में उनकी रक्षा करने का आश्वासन दिया इस प्रकार शिव जी की कृपा से रामचंद्र जी समुद्र पर पुल बंद कर लंका पुरी में जा पहुंचे वहां उन्होंने रावण का कुल सहित संघार किया और सीता को साथ ले अयोध्या पुरी में लौट आए बैजनाथ ज्योतिर्लिंग का यह चरित्र मैं तुम्हें संक्षेप में सुनाया है यह आख्यान दोनों लोग में सुख प्रदान करने वाला है इसके पढ़ने तथा सुनने से मुक्ति प्राप्त होती है

Ravana said, O Narad ji, first of all I went to Kailash mountain to do penance. I lit fire there and started cutting my head and performing havan in it. When I had cut my head and was about to cut my head, at that time Shiv ji appeared before me and blessed me. Then I asked him for a boon that no god can be victorious over me. Shiv ji gave me the desired boon and also recreated my skull and gave me many other boons. From that time onwards I rule the three worlds fearlessly. After narrating this much, Brahma ji said, O Narad, after listening to these words from Ravana's mouth, you said, Ravana, if you ask the truth, then Shiv ji did not shower special blessings on you because he did not come to your house. First of all, he showed his ling form and remained in the other way. Today we will tell you a remedy, by doing which you will always remain fearless and happy. Hearing this, Ravana asked, what is that remedy? You replied, Ravana, uproot the Kailash mountain itself and bring it here. It has been many days since Shiv ji has been praying to Kuber. You should go to him and tell him to you. It is also appropriate for Shiv Ji to come and stay with you. On his arrival here, you will always remain fearless and happy and he will keep helping you all the time. O Narada, saying this you went to Ravana and told all the news to the Gods. In this way Ravana went away due to your Maya. Then he swelled to a very large size and reached in front of Kailash mountain. Then he uprooted Kailash mountain from its roots. Due to which all the things of the mountain shook and got destroyed. Seeing this Shiv Ji filled with great anger asked Parvati Ji Priya what is happening. Then Parvati Ji replied, Lord, this deed has been done by one of your servants. Now you see your deed with your own eyes. On hearing such words, when Shiv Ji thought and saw, he came to know that this deed was done by Ravana. Then he said to Girija, Priya, I will not give such a boon to anyone. O Narada, saying this, Shiv Ji cursed Ravana and said, Ravana, the one who will cut off the hands with which you have uprooted our Kailash mountain will soon be born. If Shiv Ji wanted, he himself could have destroyed Ravana, but It is a rule that a master can never harm his servant. When Ravana heard of this, he placed the Kailash mountain at this place in Pune, India. Thereafter, he returned to his home with taxes and while ruling, he started doing many types of evils. In this way, going against the feet of Subhash, he even abandoned the devotion of Lord Shiva. O Narada, when you told this news to the gods, then Vishnu ji became very happy and on getting the news, he took human incarnation in the house of King Dasharath. In that time, he became famous in the world by the name of Ramchandra. In childhood, Ramchandra ji along with Lakshman went to protect the yagya of Vishwamitra. There, he killed a demoness named Ladka. He reached Janakpur, broke the bow and married Sita. When King Dasharath wanted to make him the heir to his kingdom, at that time the gods destroyed the intellect of Bharat's mother Kaikeyi by doing many tricks, due to which Ramchandra along with Lakshman and Sita went to exile. They were killed by many persons while pretending to be Brahmins in Chitrakoot and Dandak forests. Dadu, in the morning, when Ravana abducted Sita, Ramchandra ji became very sad. He reached the service of Agastya Rishi and started doing penance of Lord Shiva as per his command. Then Lord Shiva was pleased and gave him his bow and assured him of protection in the form of Hanuman. Thus, by the grace of Lord Shiva, Ramchandra closed the bridge on the sea and reached Lanka Puri. There he killed Ravana along with his clan and took Sita with him and returned to Ayodhya Puri. I have narrated this character of Baijnath Jyotirlinga to you in brief. This story provides happiness to both the people. One attains salvation by reading and listening to it.
