श्री शिव महापुराण कथा आठवां खंड अध्याय 47

ब्रह्मा जी ने कहा हे नारद अब मैं नागेश ज्योतिर्लिंग का वर्णन करता प्राचीन काल में दारू अपना मत एक राक्षसी ने भगवती गिरिजा की बड़ी सेवा की तब गिरजा में प्रसन्न होकर उसे अपना दर्शन दिया तथा वरदान मांगने के लिए कहा उसे समय दारू का या बोली है भगवती आप मुझे एक ऐसा नगर दीजिए जिससे मैं अपने पति सहित निवास किया करूं मैं जहां कहीं भी जाऊं वह नगर भी मेरे साथ में ही जाए तथा आप मेरी सदैव रक्षा किया करें यह सुनकर गिरिजा जी एवं वास्तु कहकर अंतर ध्यान हो गई तदुपरांत उनकी कृपा से पश्चिमी समुद्र के निकट एक ऐसा नगर बस जो 16 योजन लंबा था तब जिसने सुख की संपूर्ण वस्तुएं उपस्थित थी दारू को वहां जाकर अपने अन्य साथी राक्षसों के साथ रहने लगी दारू के पति का नाम दारू था वह अत्यंत तेजस्वी तथा बलवान था वह पूजन यज्ञ जप-तप ज्ञान धर्म आदि से रहित हो कुकर्म करने में सलमान ना हुआ दारू जहां-जहां जाती वही वही वह नगर भी साथ-साथ चलता था हे नारद उसे देते के मुद्राओं के कारण तीनों लोक के सभी देवता तथा मनुष्य अत्यंत चिंतित हो आर्यन मुनि के समीप गए तथा उन्होंने प्रणाम करके स्तुति करते हुए कहने लग है मोनी इन दोनों दारू का रक्षा अनेक प्रकार के उप्राव मचा रहा है इसलिए आप हमारी रक्षा करने की कृपा करें है स्वामी आप शिव जी के परम भक्त हैं आज तू आपके तेज को देखकर हुए सब रक्षास भाग गए इस समाचार को सुनकर और मुनि ने अत्यंत क्रुद्ध होकर राक्षसों को यह श्राप दिया कि यदि तुम पृथ्वी के जीवन को मारोगे और यह गीत उपाधि धर्म कार्य में विधान डालोगे तो नष्ट हो जाओगे इस प्रकार शराब देकर वाद मुनि तो आपने ध्यान में फिर स्थित हो गए तब सब देवताओं राक्षसों से युद्ध करने की तैयारी करने लगे जिस समय राक्षसों ने वॉर्म मुनि के ही शराब का समाचार सुना तो वह अत्यंत चिंतित हुए उसे समय दारु को राक्षसी ने उन सबको भारी बनते हुए यह कहा कि गिरिजा जी के वरदान के कारण मैं जहां जाऊंगी वहीं यह नगर भी मेरे साथ जाएगा आज तो हम लोग ऐसे स्थान पर चले जहां मोदी ने शराब को कोई प्रभाव ना हो सके हे नारद इस बात को सुनकर हुए सब रक्षा समुद्र में जाकर रहने लगे वहां हुए यह कहते कि यदि कोई मनुष्य नाव पर बैठा हुआ उधर पहुंच जाता तो उसे पकड़ कर बंदीगिरी में डाल दिया करते थे एक दिन में बहुत सी नावों को पड़कर अपने नगर में ले गए उन्नाव का एक यात्री शिव जी का परम भक्त था वह शिवजी का पूजन किया बिना जल भी ग्रहण नहीं करता था आज तू जब राक्षसों द्वारा उसे भी बंदी बना लिया गया वह बंदीगिरी में पहुंचकर सब लोगों से भी आर्थिक पूजन करने लगा उसने सबको मानसी पूजन का उपदेश कर पंचाक्षरी मंत्र की दीक्षा दी उसकी सहमति के अनुसार संबंधी भगवान सदाशिव का ध्यान धरते हुए आर्थिक पूजन करने लगे इस प्रकार जब उन्हें चाय महीने व्यतीत हो गए तो एक दिन शिवजी ने उन पर दयाल होकर एक चरित्र किया हे नारद वह चरित्र यह था कि एक दिन राक्षस ने अनबंदियों को शिवलिंग का पूजन करते हुए देखा तब उसने दारु के पास पहुंचकर यह समाचार का सुनाया दारू कि वृत्तांत को सुनते ही बंदी की पास आया और शिव जी के भक्त को भाई दिखाते हुए यह कहानी लगा कि मुझे सत्य बता दूं यहां बैठकर कौन सा कम कर रहा है यदि तूने मुझे नहीं बताया तो मैं तुम्हें जान से मार डालूंगा यह सुनकर जब उसे शिव भक्त ने कुछ भी बताने से मना किया तब दारु अपने अपने राक्षसों को यह आजा दिया कि तुम इस मुर्ख को मार डालो जिस समय वह आरक्षस शूज शिव भक्त को करने के लिए आगे बढ़े उसे समय वह अत्यंत चिंतित होकर शिवजी का स्मरण करने लगा तभी शिवजी गिरजा सहित इस समय लिंग मूर्ति से प्रकट हो गई शिवजी के दर्शन पाए हैं उसे शिव भक्त ने जो भी वैश्य पति के नाम से प्रसिद्ध था अत्यंत प्रसन्न होकर स्तुति की फिर शिवजी ने अपने ओमकार द्वारा सब राक्षसों को दूर कर दिया और वैश्य पति को अपना पाशुपत अस्त्र देते हुए यह कहा था कि तुम इसके द्वारा संपूर्ण राक्षसों का संघार करके स्वयं ब्राह्मण सहित इस वैन में निवास करो अभी यहां कोई भी रक्षा नहीं रह पाएंगे हम यहां अपना एक ज्योतिर्लिंग स्थापित किया जाते हैं हे नारद जी समय दारू राक्षसी से यह दृश्य देखा तो उसने गिरजा की बहुत स्तुति की यह गिरिजा ने प्रसन्न होकर उसके वार करने के लिए कहा तो वह इस प्रकार बोली एक भक्त भगवती आबादी शक्ति है तथा ब्रह्मा विष्णु शिव जी आप के सेवक हैं मैं किसी भी प्रकार ना मरी जाऊं यह सुनकर गिर जाने एवं वास्तु कहते हुए शिवाजी से यह कहा हे प्रभु यह दारू नामक राक्षसी मेरा भक्त है आज तो आप कृपा करके इसका तथा इसके स्वामी का नाश मत कीजिए और इसे यह वरदान दीजिए कि यह दारू व नष्ट नहीं होगा गिरजा के यह वचन सुनकर शिवजी हंस कर बोले है प्रिया जब तुम यहां कह रहे हो उचित समझो उसे करो तब गिरिजा जी ने उसे नगर खोया हुआ वरदान दिया कि योग के अंत तक यह नगर आपने फोन सहित बस रहेगा और इससे रक्षा निवास करेंगे दारू की गणना हमारी शक्ति में होगी और वह अपने पति सहित यहां का राज करेगी शिवाजी ने कहा जो मनुष्य अपने स्वर्ण आश्रम धार में दिन होगा तथा यहां आकर हम लिंग के दर्शन करेंगे वह पृथ्वी का राजा होकर इंद्र के समान सुख भोगेगा हे नारद इतना कह कर शिवजी ने गिरिजा जी से कहा है प्रिया आप हम तुम्हारे भविष्य का वृतांत कहते हैं कि भूतेश्वर नाथ एक राजा यहां आकर हमारे दर्शन करेगा तथा वहीं उन रक्षा का संघार करेगा इस प्रकार बहुत सी बातें कह कर शिवजी अपने नागेश नमक ज्योतिर्लिंग कोई स्थापित कर गिरिजा जी सहित अंतर ध्यान हो गए इतनी कथा सुनकर नारद जी ने कहा है पिता राजा मोदी ईश्वर उसे वन में किस प्रकार गया यहां आप मुझे बताने की कृपा कीजिए ब्रह्मा जी बोले ही पुत्र निषेध देश में प्रोफेसर नामक एक राजा उत्पन्न हुआ उसने 12 वर्ष तक शिवजी का तप किया तप शिव जी ने प्रसन्न होकर उसे यह आजा दिया कि तुम पश्चिमी समुद्र में जाकर दारु को उनके राक्षसों का संघार करो इतना खाकर शिव जी ने उसे एक काट के नाम देकर अंतर ध्यान हो गए तब राजा वासुदेव उसे नाव पर चढ़कर दारू पवन में जा पहुंचा वह उसने शिवलिंग तथा गिरजा के दर्शन करने प्रांत उसे पाशुपत अस्त्र को उठाया जो बहुत समय से वहां रखा हुआ था तत्पश्चात सब रक्सन का संधार करके अपने नगर को लौटाया इस प्रकार जब गिरिजा जी ने वरदान की अवधि समाप्त हो गई तो दारु को नामक राक्षस का संदर्भ हो गया यह नारद नागेश्वर ज्योतिर्लिंग का यह चरित्र अत्यंत पवित्र है इसे जो कोई सुनता है अथवा सुनता है उसे आनंद प्राप्त होता है

Brahma Ji said O Narada, now I am describing Nagesh Jyotirlinga. In ancient times, a demoness Daru served Bhagwati Girija a lot. Then, pleased with her, she gave her darshan and asked her to ask for a boon. Daru said to him, "Goddess, give me such a city where I can live along with my husband. Wherever I go, that city should also go with me and you should always protect me." On hearing this, Girija went into deep meditation saying Vastu. Thereafter, by her grace, a city was built near the western sea which was 16 yojanas long. Then, in which all the things of happiness were present. Daru went there and started living with her fellow demons. The name of Daru's husband was Daru. He was very radiant and strong. He was devoid of worship, yagya, chanting, penance, knowledge, religion, etc. He did not hesitate in doing evil deeds. Wherever Daru went, that city also went along with her. O Narada, due to the coins given to her, all the gods and humans of the three worlds became very worried and went to Aryan Muni and after paying obeisance to him, they While praising, he said, "Moni, these two demons are creating many types of disturbances, so please protect us. Swami, you are the greatest devotee of Lord Shiva. Today, seeing your glory, all the demons ran away. Hearing this news, the sage became very angry and cursed the demons that if you kill the life of the earth and use this song and upadhi in the religious work, then you will be destroyed." In this way, after giving liquor, the sage again went into meditation. Then all the gods started preparing for war with the demons. When the demons heard the news of the liquor of the sage, they became very worried. At that time, the demon Daru, overpowering them, said that due to the boon of Girija ji, wherever I go, this city will also go with me. Today, we have gone to such a place where the liquor cannot have any effect. O Narada, on hearing this, all the demons went to the sea and started living there. They used to say that if any man reached there sitting on a boat, he was caught and put in prison. In a day, many demons were killed. They took the boats to their city. A traveller from Unnao was a great devotee of Shiva. He would not drink even water without worshipping Shiva. Today, when he too was made captive by the demons, after reaching captivity, he started doing Aarthik Poojan with everyone. He preached Mansi Poojan to everyone and initiated them into the Panchakshari Mantra. As per his consent, the relatives started doing Aarthik Poojan while meditating on Lord Sadashiv. In this way, when eight months passed, one day Shiva became kind to them and narrated a story to them. O Narada, that story was that one day the demon saw the captives worshipping the Shivling. Then he went to Daru and narrated this news to him. On hearing the news, Daru came to the captive and showing the devotee of Shiva as his brother, he started saying that tell me the truth, what work are you doing by sitting here, if you do not tell me, then I will kill you. On hearing this, when the devotee of Shiva refused to tell him anything, then Daru ordered his demons to kill this fool. When the demons proceeded to kill the Shiv devotee, he became very worried and started remembering Shivji. Then Shivji appeared from the linga idol along with Girija. Shiv devotee, who was famous by the name of Vaishyapati, got the darshan of Shivji. Shiv devotee, who was famous by the name of Vaishyapati, praised him very happily. Then Shivji drove away all the demons by his Omkar and gave his Pashupata weapon to Vaishyapati and said that you kill all the demons by this and reside in this van along with the Brahmin. Now no one will be able to protect you here. We are establishing our Jyotirlinga here. O Naradji. When the demon Daru saw this scene, she praised Girija a lot. Girija was pleased and asked him to attack her. Then she said in this way, I am a devotee, Bhagwati is Aabadi Shakti and Brahma Vishnu Shivji are your servants. I should not die in any way. Hearing this, she fell down and said to Shivaji, O Lord, this demon named Daru is my devotee. Today, please do not destroy her and her master and kill her. Give me this boon that this temple will not be destroyed. Hearing this from Girija, Shivji laughed and said, Priya, when you are saying this, do it as you think it is right. Then Girija ji gave her the boon that till the end of the yoga, this city will remain inhabited along with your family and Raksha will reside here. Darshan will be counted in our power and she will rule here along with her husband. Shivaji said that the person who will be in his golden ashram Dhar and will come here and will have darshan of our Linga, he will become the king of the earth and enjoy the pleasures like Indra. O Narada, saying this much, Shivji said to Girija ji, Priya, we are telling you the story of your future that a king named Bhuteshwar Nath will come here and will have darshan of us and will destroy those Rakshas there. After saying many things like this, Shivji established a Jyotirling named Nagesh and went into meditation along with Girija ji. Hearing this much story, Narada ji said, father, king Modi, Ishwar, how did he go to the forest, please tell me here. Brahma ji said that a king named Professor was born in the country of Putra Nishbandh. He did penance of Shivji for 12 years. Pleased with the asceticism, Lord Shiva gave him permission to go to the western sea and kill all the demons there. After eating this, Lord Shiva gave him a piece of cloth and went into deep meditation. Then King Vasudev gave him the gift of protection.Climbing the mountain, Daru reached the mountain. He went to see the Shivling and the Girija and picked up the Pashupata weapon which was kept there for a long time. After that, after killing all the demons, he returned to his city. In this way, when the period of the boon given by Girija Ji ended, a demon named Daru was killed. This character of Narada Nageshwar Jyotirlinga is very sacred. Whoever listens to it or hears it, gets bliss.
