श्री शिव महापुराण कथा दसवां खंड अध्याय 11

इतनी कथा सुनकर नारद जी ने कहा हे पिता आप मुझे त्रयोदशी व्रत का महत्व सुनने की कृपा कीजिए ब्रह्मा जी बोले ही पुत्र शिव जी का ध्यान धरने वाले मनुष्य संसार में परम धन्य है जो मनुष्य अन्य शब्द हार्मोन को त्याग कर केवल भगवान सदाशिव का पूजन करते हैं वह भाव बंधन से छुटकारा मुक्तिपथ को प्राप्त करते हैं जो मनुष्य श्रद्धा पूर्वक त्रयोदशी व्रत का धारण करता है उसे पर शिवजी सदैव अपनी कृपा बनाए रखते हैं त्रयोदशी का व्रत करने से शिवजी के चरणों में प्रेम बढ़ता है ऐसे मनुष्य को सभी सीट रिद्धि सिद्धियां न्यासा ही प्राप्त हो जाती है हे नारद त्रयोदशी के व्रत में भगवान सदाशिव का पूजन प्रदोष काल में करना चाहिए इस व्रत में भगवान शंकर की अतिरिक्त अन्य किसी देवता की पूजा करना उचित नहीं है जो मनुष्य प्रदोष व्रत धारण करता है वह कभी भी दरिद्र नहीं रहता प्रदोष काल में भगवान सदाशिव की पूजा करना ही श्रेष्ठ है ऐसी पूजा करने वाले लोग धन संतान स्त्री पुत्र आदि सभी वस्तुओं को प्राप्त करते हैं प्रदोष काल में सभी देवता भगवान सदा शिव का पूजन करने के लिए उसकी शरण में जाते हैं उसे समय शिवजी शिवरानी सहित सिंहासन पर शोभायन होते हैं हे नारद प्रदोष काल में शिव जी की जो सभा जुड़ती है उसका कुछ वर्णन इस प्रकार है कि उसे समय देवता तथा ऋषि मुनि शिव गिरिजा के चारों ओर बैठकर उनका भजन तथा कीर्तन करते हैं शिवाजी मृदिंक बजाते मैं करताल बजना सरस्वती वीणा बजाती और लक्ष्मी गीत गाती तुम भी वीणा बजाते हो अन्य सब देवता तथा उपदेवता सेवा में खड़े रहकर उसकी यश का वर्णन करते इस प्रकार प्रदोष काल में सभी देवता शिव जी की सेवा में संलग्न रहते इतने पर भी यदि कोई मनुष्य शिवजी के अतिरिक्त किसी अन्य देवता का प्रदोष काल में पूजन करता है तो वह देवता पूजन करने पर अत्यंत क्रुद्ध होकर यह कहता है कि कैसे मुर्ख है जो इस समय शिव जी का ध्यान ना करके हमारी पूजा कर रहा है इसलिए यही उचित है कि प्रदोष काल में अन्य सबको त्याग कर केवल भगवान सदा शिव की ही पूजन किया जाए इस संबंध में मैं तुम्हें एक विचित्र आख्यान सुनाता हूं उसे ध्यान पूर्वक सुनो हे नारद दक्षिण दिशा में विभव नमक देश में 17th नामक एक राजा राज करता था वह न्याय तथा दया का आश्रय लेकर धरमपूर्वक अपनी प्रजा का पालन करता था इसलिए उसके राज्य में कोई भी दुखी ना था एक बार शक नामक राजा ने उसके नगर पर चढ़ाई कर दी उसे युद्ध में राजा 17th मारा गया तब उसकी रानी नगर में भाग कर बाहर विपिन की ओर जल्दी रात भर चलती हुई जब सवेरे वह एक तालाब के समीप पहुंची तो वहां उसने शुभ लग्न में एक पुत्र को जन्म दिया प्रसव के उपरांत रानी को जोर से प्यास लगी जिससे वह तलाक के तट पर पानी के लिए या पहुंची जैसे ही उसने तालाब में से पानी लेने को हाथ आगे बढ़ाया वैसे ही एक घड़ियाल ने उसे निकाल लिया इस प्रकार रानी भी मृत्यु को प्राप्त हो गई तब वह बालक अपनी स्थान पर अकेला पड़ा हुआ श्रद्धा श्री व्याकुल हो रुद्रन करने लगा हे नारद उसे बालक को रोते हुए देखकर शिव जी को बहुत दया आई तब उसकी कृपा से एक विधवा ब्राह्मणी अपने 5 वर्षीय पुत्र को साथ लिए उसे स्थान पर जा पहुंची जहां वह एक बालक पड़ा हुआ था जिस समय वह स्त्री उसे बालक को अकेला पड़ा हुआ देखकर आश्चर्य भरकर यह विचार कर रही थी कि इस नवजात शिशु को यह कौन छोड़ा गया है तथा इसका पालन किस प्रकार होगा इस समय भगवान सदाशिव एक श्रावक ब्राह्मण का स्वरूप धारण कर उसे स्थान पर जा पहुंचे और ब्राह्मणी से कहने लगे हे ब्राह्मणी तुम संध्या त्याग इस बालक का पालन करो हे नारद ब्राह्मण रूपी शिवजी के मुख से यह वचन सुनकर उसे विधवा ब्राह्मणी ने कहा हे महानतम आप मुझे इस बालक के पूर्व जन्म का वृतांत सुनने की कृपा करें शिवजी बोल ही ब्राह्मणी यह बालक पूर्व जन्म में एक राजा का पुत्र था एक समय यात्रियों उदासी व्रत धारण करके शिव जी का पूजन कर रहा था उसी समय से अपने सेवकों द्वारा नगर से उत्पादन होने की सूचना मिली तब वह अपने पूजन अधूरा छोड़कर शत्रुओं को देखने के लिए चल दिया जब किसने उत्पाद मचाने लगे व्यक्ति को देखा तो क्रुद्ध होकर अपनी तलवार द्वारा उसका सिर काट डाला था तो प्रांत या इस अशुद्ध दशा में भोजन करने चला गया तथा पूजन को पूर्ण करना भूल गया इस अपराध के कारण अब वह विदर्भ नरेश के यहां उत्पन्न होकर ऐसी बुरी दशा को प्राप्त हुआ हे ब्राह्मणी त्रयोदशी का व्रत त्याग देने पर किसी भी मनुष्य को सुख नहीं मिल सकता इसकी माता ने अपने पूर्व जन्म में अपनी साउथ को छालों द्वारा मार डाला था इस अपराध के कारण इस जन्म में उसे हरियल खा गया है तुम्हारे साथ जो एक पुत्र है उसके पूर्व जन्म का वृतांत या है कि इसमें पूर्व जन्म में उधर का दंग्रहण किया था इसलिए अब यह दरिद्र बनाकर तुम्हारे बालक के रूप में उत्पन्न हुआ है अब तुम्हें उचित है कि तुम अपने बालक की तथा इस राजपूत का देखभाल करो जब यह बालक कुछ बड़े हो जाए तब तुम उन दोनों से शिवजी का पूजन करना शिव पूजन के प्रताप से यह दोनों शब्द प्रकार के सांसारिक धन संपत्ति प्राप्त करेंगे तथा तुम्हें भी सुख पहुंचाएंगे मृत्यु के उपरांत तुम तीनों ही मुक्तिपथ को प्राप्त करोगे इतना कह कर भगवान सदा शिव ने उसे ब्राह्मणी को अपने मोक्ष स्वरूप दर्शन किया उसे रूप को देखकर ब्राह्मणी ने अत्यंत प्रसन्न हो दंडवत प्रणाम तथा स्तुति की तत्पश्चात शिवजी अंतर ध्यान हो गए

After listening to this story, Narad ji said, O father, please tell me the importance of Trayodashi fast. Brahma ji said, son, the person who meditates on Lord Shiva is the most blessed in the world. The person who worships only Lord Sadashiv by abandoning other words and hormones, gets freedom from the bondage of emotions and attains the path of salvation. The person who observes Trayodashi fast with devotion, Lord Shiva always showers his blessings on him. By observing Trayodashi fast, love for the feet of Lord Shiva increases. Such a person gets all the powers, Riddhi, Siddhis and Nyasa. O Narad, in the fast of Trayodashi, Lord Sadashiv should be worshipped during Pradosh period. In this fast, it is not appropriate to worship any other god except Lord Shiva. The person who observes Pradosh fast never remains poor. It is best to worship Lord Sadashiv during Pradosh period. The people who worship like this get all the things like wealth, children, wife, son etc. During Pradosh period, all the gods go to the shelter of Lord Sadashiv to worship him. At that time, Shivaji along with Shivrani worship him. Shiva is adorned on the throne. O Narada, the description of the assembly of Lord Shiva which is held during Pradosh period is that at that time the gods and sages sit around Shiva Girija and sing his praises and hymns. Shivaji plays the drum, I play the cymbals, Saraswati plays the Veena and Lakshmi sings songs. You also play the Veena. All other gods and sub-gods stand in service and describe his glory. In this way, all the gods remain engaged in the service of Lord Shiva during Pradosh period. Despite this, if any person worships any other god other than Lord Shiva during Pradosh period, then that god gets very angry on being worshipped and says that what a fool he is who is worshipping us instead of meditating on Lord Shiva at this time. Therefore, it is appropriate that during Pradosh period, leaving aside all others, only Lord Shiva should be worshipped. In this regard, I will narrate to you a strange story. Listen to it carefully. O Narada, in a country named Vibhav in the south, a king named 17th used to rule. He used to take shelter of justice and mercy. He looked after his subjects righteously, so no one was unhappy in his kingdom. Once a king named Shaka attacked his city. The king was killed in the war. Then his queen ran away from the city and walked early all night towards the forest. In the morning, she reached near a pond and gave birth to a son there on an auspicious day. After the delivery, the queen felt very thirsty, so she went to the bank of the pond to get water. As soon as she extended her hand to take water from the pond, a crocodile took him out. In this way the queen also died. Then the child was lying alone at his place. Shraddha Shri became distraught and started crying. O Narada, seeing the child crying, Lord Shiva felt pity. Then by his grace, a widow Brahmin woman along with her 5-year-old son reached the place where the child was lying. At that time, seeing the child lying alone, the woman was surprised and was thinking that who had abandoned this newborn baby and how would he be brought up. At that time Lord Sadashiv took the form of a Shravak Brahmin and took him to the place. He reached there and said to the Brahmin woman, O Brahmin woman, you should abandon evening prayers and take care of this child. O Narada, on hearing these words from the mouth of Lord Shiva in the form of a Brahmin, the widow Brahmin woman said, O greatest one, please bless me to tell you the story of the previous birth of this child. Lord Shiva said, Brahmin woman, this child was the son of a king in his previous birth. Once he was worshipping Lord Shiva by observing a fast. At the same time, he got the information of production in the city from his servants. Then he left his worship incomplete and went to see the enemies. When he saw a person who was creating a ruckus, he got angry and cut off his head with his sword. Then in this impure state he went to eat and forgot to complete the worship. Due to this crime, now he was born in the house of the king of Vidarbha and got such a bad condition. O Brahmin woman, no man can get happiness after abandoning the fast of Trayodashi. His mother had killed her son with barks in her previous birth. Due to this crime, Hariyal has eaten him in this birth. The story of the previous birth of the son who is with you is that in this previous birth I had captured that place, therefore now he has been born in the form of your child, making him poor. Now it is appropriate for you to take care of your son and this Rajput. When this child grows up a bit, then you should get both of them to worship Lord Shiva. By the power of Shiva worship, both of them will acquire all kinds of worldly wealth and will bring happiness to you too. After death, all three of you will attain the path of salvation. Saying this, Lord Sada Shiva showed his salvation form to the Brahmini. Seeing his form, the Brahmini was very pleased and bowed down and praised him, after that Lord Shiva went into meditation.
