श्री शिव महापुराण कथा नवा खंड अध्याय 17

नंदेश्वर ने कहा है संत कुमार विष्णु के सत्य को देखकर भगवान सदाशिव अत्यंत प्रसन्न हुए तथा ब्रह्म के मिथ्या वचन को सुनकर अत्यंत कुपित हुए दादू प्रांत उन्होंने अपना मुख्य रूप उन दोनों देवताओं के बीच प्रगति कर दिया उसे स्वरूप को देखकर विष्णु जी स्तुति करने लगे तथा शिवजी के अत्यंत प्रसन्न होकर उसने यह कहा है विष्णु हम तुम्हारे सत्य को देखकर बहुत आनंदित हुए हम तुम्हें वार देते हैं कि तुम हमारे समान हो जाओ तथा सब लोग तुम्हारी पूजा भी हमारी ही पूजा की भांति किया करें इस प्रकार विष्णु को वरदान देकर भगवान सदाशिव ब्रह्मा जी से बोल ही ब्रह्मा तुमने सांसारिक आनंद तथा प्रशंसा प्राप्त करने के हेतु अपने कर्म धर्म को त्याग है और तुम तीनों लोक में अपना पूजन करने के लिए झूठ भी बोले हो इतना ही नहीं तुम्हें मिथ्या साक्षी को भी उपस्थित किया है और तू हम तुम्हें या श्राप देते हैं कि तीनों लोकों में कोई भी तुम्हारी पूजा नहीं करेगा तथा कोई भी देवता अथवा मुनि तुम्हें अपना स्वामी स्वीकार नहीं करेगा हे संत कुमार शिव जी के मुख से यह वचन सुनकर ब्रह्मा ने अत्यंत लाजित होकर बहुत प्रकार से विनय करते हुए कहा हे प्रभु आप मैं आपकी शरण में आया हूं ब्रह्मा के इन विनय वचनों को सुनकर शिवजी प्रसन्न होकर तब वे इस प्रकार कहने लगे हे ब्राह्मण अब हम तुम्हें युक्ति पूर्वक यह वार देते हैं कि तुम वैधानिक मुक्त करमदी में गुरु हुआ करोगे और अपना पूरा भाग प्राप्त करोगे ब्रह्मा से इस प्रकार कहकर शिवाजी केकती पुष्प से बोले एक व्यक्ति तुमने धर्म के विरोध आचरण करते हुए मिथ्या साक्षी दिया है अस्तु तो आज से हमारी पूजा के काम नहीं आएगी यह सुनकर व्यक्ति ने अत्यंत दुखी होकर शिवजी की प्रार्थना करते हुए कहा हे प्रभु आप मेरे अपराध को क्षमा करें देने की कृपा करें वे देश बात को कहते हैं कि आप सार्जेंट पलक है तथा आपका स्मरण मात्र से ही सब पाप नष्ट हो जाते हैं फिर मैं तो आपको शरीर देख रही हूं ऐसी अवस्था में मेरे पाप नष्ट क्यों ना होंगे यह सुनकर शिवजी ने प्रसन्नता पूर्वक कहा एक-एकटी हम तुम्हारी विनय से अध्ययन प्रसन्न हुए हैं आज तो आप यह वरदान दे देते हैं कि तुम मुझ पर मितान के द्वारा चढ़ा इस प्रकार शिव जी ने सब लोगों पर अत्यंत अनुग्रह किया है संत कुमार उसे समय ब्रह्मा तथा विष्णु ने दाएं बाएं खड़े होकर परिवार सहित भगवान सदाशिव का पूजन किया तब शिवजी ने अत्यंत प्रसन्न होकर यह कहा है ब्रह्मा कथा विष्णु तुम दोनों हमें प्राणों के समान प्रिय हो आज का दिन परम पवित्र तथा मुक्ति को देने वाला है यह संसार में शिवरात्रि के नाम से प्रसिद्ध होगा शिवरात्रि का व्रत सब लोगों को अत्यंत आनंद प्रदान करेगा तुम लोग इस दिन व्रत करके हमारे लिंग की पूजा किया करो ना इससे तुम्हारी सभी पाप तथा द्वेष नष्ट हो जाएंगे हम यह लिंक रूप होकर प्रगट हुए हैं आज तो इस स्थान का नाम लिंग वाले प्रसिद्ध होगा सब लोगों की पूजा के निर्माता हम इस लिंक के पूर्ण अंश में विराजमान रहेंगे इस स्थान का नाम अरुणाचल होगा जो लोग यहां आकर हमारी पूजा करेंगे वह परम पद को प्राप्त होंगे हे संत कुमार इतनी कहकर शिवजी ने संपूर्ण मरी हुई सेना  को जीवित कर दिया फिर उन्होंने यह इच्छा करके कि हम ब्रह्मा तथा विष्णु के अहंकार को सदैव के लिए नष्ट कर दें इस प्रकार कहना आरंभ किया हे ब्रह्मा तथा है विष्णु हम तुमसे वेदों का शायर कहते हैं हमारे दो स्वरूप हैं पहले निष्कलंक तथा दूसरा शक्ल हम ब्रह्मा अलक तथा संपूर्ण सृष्टि के प्राण सर्वप्रथम हम खंबे के रूप में प्रकट हुए तदुपरांत सब अंगों सहित प्रकट हुए हैं तुम दोनों में में अपने को संसार का स्वामी समझकर व्यर्थ ही इतना युद्ध किया इसलिए हमें यहां निराकार रूप में आना पड़ा आप तुम्हें कभी ऐसे भ्रम में नहीं पढ़ना चाहिए तुम्हें इस बात को निश्चय रखना चाहिए परम ब्रह्म परमात्मा हम ही हैं तुम्हें हमारे लिंग का पूजन करना चाहिए इससे तुम सभी मनोरथ को प्राप्त हो जाओगे हे ब्रह्मा तथा है विष्णु यह संपूर्ण सृष्टि पांच प्रकार की है तुम इससे हमारे लीला ही समझो संसार की उत्पत्ति भरण पोषण तथा प्रलय एवं धर्म अर्थ काम और मोक्ष इन पांचो कर्मों में पंच देवता निवास करते हाय हुए ब्रह्मा विष्णु रूद्र महेश तथा हम हैं इन पांच देवताओं में से चार देवताओं तो शरीर दिखाई देते हैं परंतु पांचवा दृष्टिगोचर नहीं होता है तुम दोनों ब्रह्मा तथा विष्णु भी हमारी शक्ति द्वारा उत्पन्न हुए हो तथा रुद्र और महेश भी हमारी ही दे है रुद्र तथा महेश अविकारी है तथा तुम दोनों विकारी हो इस बात को भली भांति जान लेने पर तुम्हारे मन मैं कोई संदेह नहीं रह जाएगा इतना कह कर शिवजी अंतर ध्यान हो गए उसे समय ब्रह्मा तथा विष्णु आदि को भी अत्यंत आनंद प्राप्त हुआ फिर सब लोग अपने-अपने लोग को चले गए इतनी कथा सुना कर ब्रह्मा जी ने कहा हे नारद जीके इस परम पवित्र आख्यान का हमने तुमसे वर्णन किया है नंदेश्वर के मुख से इस पवित्र चरित्र को सुनकर संत कुमार भी अत्यंत आनंदित हो अपने स्थान को चले गए शिव जी के इस परम पवित्र आख्यान को हमने तुमसे वर्णन किया है तुम्हें या नीचे पूर्वक जान लेना चाहिए कि जो लोग शिवजी की भक्ति करते हैं वह सदैव प्रसन्न बने रहते हैं जो लोग शिवजी के चित्रों को अथवा दूसरों को सुनते हैं वे इस लोक में अत्यंत आनंद भोग अंत में शिवपुरी को प्राप्त होते हैं

Nandeshwar has said that on seeing the truth of Sant Kumar Vishnu, Lord Sadashiv was very pleased and on hearing the false words of Brahma, he became very angry. Dadu said, he made his main form move between those two gods. On seeing that form, Vishnu Ji started praising him and Shiv Ji was very pleased and said, Vishnu, on seeing your truth, we are very pleased that you become like us and everyone should worship you like we worship them. In this way, after giving a boon to Vishnu, Lord Sadashiv said to Brahma Ji, Brahma, you have abandoned your duty to get worldly pleasures and praise and you have also lied to get yourself worshipped in the three worlds. Not only this, you have also presented a false witness and we curse you that no one will worship you in the three worlds and no god or sage will accept you as his lord. On hearing these words from the mouth of Sant Kumar Shiv Ji, Brahma felt very ashamed and humbly said, O Lord, I have come in your refuge. On hearing these humble words of Brahma, Shiv Ji became pleased and then he said this. O Brahmin, now we give you this boon with a logic that you will be the Guru in the legal free Karmadi and will get your full share. After saying this to Brahma, Shivaji said to Kekati Pushp, one person, you have given false witness by behaving against the religion, so from today our worship will not be of any use. On hearing this, the person became very sad and prayed to Shiva and said, O Lord, please forgive my crime and give me the grace to forgive you. They say that you are the greatest soul and by just remembering you all the sins get destroyed. Then I am seeing your body, in such a situation why will my sins not get destroyed. On hearing this, Shiva said happily, one by one, we are very pleased with your humility. Today you give me this boon that you ascend me through my friend. In this way, Shiva has showered great grace on all the people. Saint Kumar, at that time, Brahma and Vishnu stood on the right and left and worshipped Lord Sadashiv with their families. Then Shiva said very pleased, Brahma Katha Vishnu, both of you are dear to us like life. Today is the most sacred day and gives salvation. This day is the day in this world. It will be famous by the name of Shivratri. The fast of Shivratri will give immense joy to all people. You people should observe fast on this day and worship our Linga. By this all your sins and hatred will be destroyed. We have appeared in the form of a Linga. Today this place will be famous by the name of Linga Wale. We are the creator of worship of all people. We will reside in the complete part of this Linga. This place will be called Arunachal. Those who come here and worship us will attain the supreme position. O Sant Kumar. Saying this, Shivji brought the entire dead army to life. Then he started speaking with the desire that we should destroy the ego of Brahma and Vishnu forever. O Brahma and Vishnu, the poet of Vedas tells you that we have two forms. First of all, we are spotless and the second form. We are Brahma, Alak and the life of the whole universe. First of all, we appeared in the form of a pillar. Thereafter, we appeared with all the limbs. Both of you thought yourself to be the master of the world and fought so much in vain. That is why we had to come here in the formless form. You should never be in such a confusion. You should be sure of this thing. We are the Supreme Brahma, the Supreme Soul. You should worship our Linga, by this you will get all your wishes. Oh Brahma and Vishnu, this entire universe is of five types, you should understand it as our play. The creation of the world, sustenance and destruction, Dharma, Artha, Kama and Moksha, in these five activities the five deities reside. There are Brahma, Vishnu, Rudra, Mahesh and us. Out of these five deities, the bodies of four deities are visible, but the fifth one is not visible. You both, Brahma and Vishnu, have also been born from our power, and Rudra and Mahesh are also our creations. Rudra and Mahesh are unchangeable and you both are changeable. After knowing this thing well, there will be no doubt in your mind. Saying this, Shivji went into deep meditation. At that time Brahma and Vishnu etc. also got immense pleasure, then everyone went to their respective places. After narrating this story, Brahma ji said, Oh Narad ji, we have narrated this most sacred story to you. On listening to this sacred character from the mouth of Nandeshwar, Sant Kumar also became very happy and went to his place. We have narrated this most sacred story of Shiv ji to you.
