श्री शिव महापुराण कथ दसवां खंड अध्याय 3

इतनी कथा सुनकर नारद जी ने कहा हे पिता अपने शिवरात्रि व्रत की विधि का तो वर्णन किया अब मेरी यह इच्छा है कि आप उसे उद्यापन की विधि को और सुनने की कृपा करें जिससे करने से शिवजी का व्रत पूर्ण होता है जिसके द्वारा शिवजी अपने भक्तों पर प्रसन्न होकर दोनों लोगों की कामनाएं पूर्ण करते हैं ब्रह्मा जी बोले हे नारद जब 14 वर्ष तक शिव जी का व्रत निरंतर कर ले तब उसका उद्यापन करना उचित है उद्यापन की विधि इस प्रकार है की त्रयोदशी के दिन स्वयं पूर्वक रहे तथा चतुर्दशी के दिन निर्जला व्रत धारण करें शिवजी का धाम दिव्या मंडल जी से गोरी तिलक कहा जाता है की रचना करके लिंग गोत्र तथा सर्वोत्तम भाग चक्र बनाएं या आठ कलशो की स्थापना कर उन्हें फल फूल तथा वेस्टन से सुसज्जित करें कैलाश के ऊपर शिव गिर जाए एवं नंदीश्वर की स्वर्ण प्रतिमाओं की स्थापना करें इन तीनों मूर्तियां को अपने समर्थ के अनुसार वर्ण से बनाए रखें इतना सब करके दीपक जलाकर दाहिनी और रखें तथा प्रसन्नता पूर्वक रात्रि भर जागरण करके चारों पहाड़ में शिव जी का चार बार पूजन करें हे नारद इस प्रकार रात्रि भर पूजन करने के उपरांत प्रातः काल होने पर पुन स्नान करें तथा सबके साथ मिलकर शिवजी का पूजन करें फिर हवन करने के पश्चात ब्राह्मणों को भोजन कारण और उन्हें वस्त्र आभूषण धन आदि धन देकर प्रसन्न करें जिस आशय आर्य को वर्णन किया हो उसके सबसे अधिक सेवा करें जिससे विधि पूर्वक गोदान करें तथा सा मस्त सामग्री सहित शिव गिरजा एवं नंदी क की स्वर्ण मूर्तियां उसी को दे दे आश्चर्य आचार्य को दंडवत प्रणाम करने के पश्चात शिवजी को पुष्पांजलि भेंट करता हुआ स्तुति करें साधु प्राण ब्राह्मणों की आज्ञा अनुसार स्वयं भी परिवार सहित भोजन करें जो लोग साधन संपन्न हो उन्हें के लिए यह उद्यापन कहा गया है जो समर्थहीन हो वह साधारण रीति से पूजन करके शिवजी को केवल पुष्पांजलि भेंट द्वारा ही अपना उद्यापन पूरा कर सकते हैं उद्यापन कर लेने से व्रत पूर्ण हो जाता है

After listening to this story, Narad ji said, O father, you have described the method of your Shivratri fast, now I wish that you please listen to the method of its Udyaapan, by doing which the fast of Shivji is completed, by which Shivji gets pleased with his devotees and fulfills the wishes of both. Brahma ji said, O Narad, when one keeps the fast of Shivji continuously for 14 years, then it is appropriate to do its Udyaapan. The method of Udyaapan is such that on Trayodashi, one remains engrossed and on Chaturdashi, observe Nirjala fast. After creating the abode of Shivji, it is called Gori Tilak from Divya Mandal, make Linga Gotra and the best part Chakra or establish eight urns and decorate them with fruits, flowers and western. Shiv falls on Kailash and establish golden idols of Nandishwar. Keep these three idols according to the color according to your ability. After doing all this, light a lamp and keep it on the right side and happily stay awake the whole night and worship Shivji four times in all the four mountains. O Narad, after worshipping the whole night in this way, again in the morning. Take bath and worship Lord Shiva along with everyone. Then after performing havan, please the Brahmins by giving them food and clothes, jewellery and money. Serve the Arya the most as described, by which means donate a cow as per the rituals and give the golden idols of Shiv Church and Nandi along with all the nice stuff to him. After prostrating to Aashcharya Acharya, offer flowers to Lord Shiva and praise him. As per the orders of Sadhu Pran Brahmins, you too should eat food with your family. This Udyapana is said to be for those who are well-off. Those who are incapable can complete their Udyapana by worshipping in the simple manner and only offering flowers to Lord Shiva. After performing Udyapana, the fast becomes complete.
