श्री शिव महापुराण कथा दसवां खंड अध्याय 4

नारद जी ने कहा हे पिता शिवरात्रि व्रत का महत्व सुनने से अभी मेरी तीर्थ नहीं हुई है आज तो आप मुझे यह बताने की कृपा करें कि जिन लोगों ने बिना जाने हुए शिवरात्रि व्रत किया उन्हें क्या फल प्राप्त हुआ है यह सुनकर ब्रह्मा जी ने कहा के पुत्र इस संबंध में तुम्हें एक कथा सुनाता हूं जो सब प्रकार से आनंद करने वाली है पुरातन समय में एक सम एक वाद्य निषाद नाम से प्रसिद्ध था वह सभी जीवो को दुख देने वाला हिंसा तथा अत्यंत कठोर था उसका परिवार बहुत बड़ा था वह प्रतिदिन वन में जाकर जीव जंतुओं का संघर्ष करता तथा चोरी आदि द्वारा ज्ञान प्राप्त करता था बाल्यावस्था से ही उसने कोई शुभ कर्म नहीं किया था जी वन में वह रहता था वहां किसी को चैन नहीं लेने देता था इस प्रकार के कुकर्म करते हुए उसे बहुत समय व्यतीत हो गया हे नारद एक दिन ऐसा सहयोग हुआ कि उसके घर में भोजन समाप्त हो गया तब उसके माता-पिता स्त्री आदि से स्रावित होकर उसे यह कहा हम लोग सुख मर जाते हैं आज तो तुम हमारे लिए भोजन का प्रबंध करो उन लोगों की बात सुनकर निषाद अपना धनुष बाण लेकर एक फोन में जा पहुंचा जिस दिन किया घटना है वह शिवरात्रि व्रत का दिन था परंतु निषाद इस बारे में कुछ नहीं जानता था आज तो वह दिन संध्या तक वन में फिरने पर भी भाग्य वास निषाद को कोई जीव जंतु दिखाई नहीं दिया अब रात्रि का समय आया तब वह हमेशा अपने मन मे अत्यंत व्याकुल होकर यह विचार करने लगा कि मुझे यहां कोई शिकार तो मिला नहीं तब घर जाकर ही क्या करूंगा तदुपरांत वह यह सोचकर एक नदी के तट पर जा पहुंचा हे नारद किस प्रकार निश्चय करके निषाद नदी के तट पर जो एक रेल का वृक्ष था उसके ऊपर छुप कर बैठ गया और टकटकी लगा रहे यह देखने लग कि यदि कोई जीव नदी के तट पर पानी पीने आए तो मैं उसका संघार कर डालो जब रात्रि का पहला पहर समाप्त होने को होगा उसे समय वहां एक प्यासी हिरण उछलती कुटी हुई यहां पहुंची उसे देखते ही निषाद अपने धनुष पर बाढ़ चढ़ाया जिसका प्रभाव यह हुआ कि उसे धनुष बाढ़ के आधार से बिना वृक्ष के कुछ पत्ते तथा निषाद के पास रखा हुआ पीने का शुद्ध जल वृक्ष के नीचे स्थापित शिवलिंग पर गिर पड़े इस प्रकार भाग्य वश उसके दाहिने पहाड़ की पूजा स्वयं ही पूर्ण हो गई उसे आज राज अवस्था में शिव पूजन हो जाने के प्रभाव से निषाद के अनेक पाप नष्ट हो गए हे नारद उधर हिरानी ने जब निषाद को बेल के वृक्ष के ऊपर बैठे हुए तथा धनुष दाने हुए देखा तो उसे संबोधित करते हुए पूछा है निषाद तुमने अपना धनुष क्यों हटाना है निषाद में उत्तर दिया है हिरनी मेरे परिवार के सभी लोग दिन भर के भूखे हैं आज तुम मैंने यह विचार किया है कि मैं तुम्हें मार कर तेरे मन से सब लोगों को दुआ कर निवारण करूंगा यह सुनकर हिरानी ने चिंतित होकर अपने मन में या विचार किया कि मुझे किसी प्रकार इसका संकट दूर करना चाहिए वास्तु उसने निषाद को संबोधित करते हुए था है निषाद मैं धन्य भाग्य है जो तुम मेरे मांस द्वारा अपने तथा अपने पारिवारिक जनों का मनोरथ पूर्ण करना चाहते हो यद्यपि इससे कोई संदेह नहीं है कि मेरे मन से तुम्हारे परिवार का पेट भर जाएगा तथा मुझे इसमें कोई आपत्ति भी नहीं है दर्द अभी माया चाहती हूं कि तुम मेरी प्रार्थना स्वीकार कर लो हे नारद हिरनी की बात सुनकर निषाद ने पूछा तुम क्या कहना चाहती हो हिरनी बोली हे निषाद मेरे घर पर छोटे-छोटे अनेक बच्चे हैं अब तुम माया चाहती हूं कि उन सबको अपनी बहन को शौक आओ किसने कहकर मैं तुम्हें मेरे पास लौटाऊंगी तब तुम मुझे मार कर अपने प्रयोजन सिद्ध करना संसार में सत्य के समान और कोई वस्तु नहीं है यह पृथ्वी तथा आज भी सत्य के बल पर ही ठहरे हुए हैं मैं भी अपने वचन को अवश्य सत्यसित करूंगी इस प्रकार उन हिंदी में घर को आने देने के लिए निषाद से बहुत प्रार्थना की परंतु निषाद ने उन्हें स्वीकार नहीं किया हे नारद यह देखकर किडनी ने अपने मन में अध्ययन भयभीत को निषाद को विश्वास दिलाते हुए इस प्रकार पुणे करना आरंभ किया हे निषाद यदि मैं अपने बच्चों का प्रबंध करके तुम्हारे पास लौट करना हो तो मुझे वह पाप लागे जो वेद के विरुद्ध आचरण करने वाले मनुष्य को लगता है उसे समय निषाद ने हिंदी की बात पर विश्वास करके उसे घर को आने की आज्ञा दी तब वह हीरोइन जल पीने के उपरांत अपने घर को चली गई और निषाद इस पेड़ पर बैठा हुआ उसके पुणे पुणे गण की प्रतीक्षा करने लगा हे नारद जब रात्रि का दूसरा पहाड़ आया उसे समय उसे हिरनी की बहाने अपनी-अपने को ढूंढते हुए इस स्थान पर आ पहुंची निषाद ने उसे देखते ही फिर आपने दावत को बाहर चढ़ाया उसके कारण अनेक विलाप पत्रा टूट कर शिवलिंग पर जा गिरे और उसके दूसरे पहाड़ का शिव पूजन अपने आप हो गया इस अज्ञान अवस्था की पूजन से भी असम के पाप नष्ट हो गए तब दूसरी हीरोइन ने पहले हिरनी की भांति व्याधि से धनुष चढ़ाने का कारण पूछा और बिहार में अपना उत्तर दोहरा दिया था दो प्रांत उसकी मम्मी ने अपने मन से अत्यंत भयभीत होकर इस प्रकार कहा है निषाद मेरे बड़े भाग जो तुम मेरे मांस द्वारा अपनी तथा अपने परिवार का सुखमणि निवारण करना चाहते हो या शरीर नाशवान है वस्तु इसके द्वारा ही परोपकार हो तो इससे अधिक आनंद की बात क्या होगी फिर भी मैं यह चाहती हूं कि मैं अपनी छोटी लड़की को अपने पति को सौंप आओ तब पश्चात यहां आकर दूसरे बाढ़ का लक्ष्य बानो जब निषाद ने उसकी प्रार्थना को आशीर्वाद किया तब उसे शेरनी ने विश्वास दिलाते हुए इस प्रकार कहा यदि मैं अपनी प्रति क्या काम करूं तो मुझे वह पाप लागे जो अपनी स्त्री को छोड़कर पढ़ाई स्त्री के साथ भोग करने पर लगा है या सुनकर प्रसाद ने उसे भी घर को जाने की आज्ञा दे दी तब वह तो पानी पीकर चली गई अपने साथ उसके रखने की प्रतीक्षा में जाता हुआ धनुष थाने अपने स्थान पर बैठा रहा हे नारद उधर जब हिरनी देर तक घर लौट ना पहुंची और रात्रि का तीसरा पहर आया तब हिरण उसे ढूंढने के लिए स्वयं भी चिंता आतुर तथा भीष्म आतुर हो नंदी की ओर चल दिया जब वहां तट पर पहुंचा तो उसे देखकर भी निषाद ने अपने धनुष को खींच जिसके कारण पेड़ से कुछ बिली पत्र फिर शिवलिंग के ऊपर गिर पड़े इस प्रकार तीसरे पहर का पूजन पूर्ण हो गया इस पूजन से निषाद के शेष बचे पापों में आधार पाप और नष्ट हो गए जब हिरण ने निषाद को धनुष खींचे हुए देखा तो उसका कारण पूछा तथा विचार में भी पहले समान उत्तर दे दिया उसे सुनकर हिरन बोला के निषाद मेरे धन्य भाग्य है जो तुम मेरे शरीर द्वारा अपने परिवार को प्रयुक्त करना चाहते हो मेरा एक बालक है तुम उसे मुझे अपने स्त्री को सौंप आने दो बालक को सोने के उपरांत मैं फिर यही आऊंगा तब मुझे मार कर अपनी अभिलाषा पूर्ण करना हे नारद यह सुनकर निषाद ने उत्तर दिया है हिरण तुम्हारे सामान दो पशु और भी पहले यहां आकर जा चुके हैं वह भी तुम्हारे ही समान प्रतिज्ञा करके यहां से गए परंतु अभी तक लौट नहीं आए इस प्रकार दो बार धोखा खाने के उपरांत अब मैं तुम्हें ऊपर विश्वास करने को तैयार नहीं हू माई तुम्हारी किसी भी प्रकार लौट कर नहीं जाने दूंगा निषाद ने ऐसे वचन सुनकर हिरन बोला है भाग्य मैं जब तक सत्य की रक्षा की है और जीवन में कभी झूठ नहीं बोला है मैं शपथ पूर्वक तुमसे यह कहता हूं कि चाहे जो हो मैं तुम्हारे पास आकर लौट आऊंगा यह सुनकर भागने उसे भी जाने की आज्ञा दे दी तब वह हिरण भी पानी पीकर अपने घर लौट गया हे नारद जी समय घर पर हिरण तथा हिरनी सब एक हुए और उन्हें अपना अपना वरदान कहा तो वह एक दूसरे का हाल सुनकर अत्यंत शक करने लगे तब जो हिरनी सबसे पहले बाधित को विश्वास डिकर लौट आई थी वह अपने पति से इस प्रकार कहने लगी है स्वामी सर्वप्रथम बाय उच्च माध्यमिक से प्रतिज्ञा करके आई हूं तब यहां घर से रहकर बच्चों का पालन करते रहे यह सुनकर तुम्हारी हिरानी ने कहा नहीं बहन या कभी नहीं हो सकता पहली स्त्री घर की स्वाभिमानी कहलाती है या तो मैं आपको ना जान देकर स्वयंभुवादी के पास जाऊंगा अपने दोनों स्त्रियों को ऐसी बातें सुनकर हिरण ने कहा पुरुष के कहां रहते हुए स्त्री का जाना श्रेष्ठ नहीं है आज तो मैं अपने मन से उसे व्याधि के परिवार को तृप्त करूंगा बच्चों का पालन केवल माता ही कर सकती है अपने पति के यह वचन सुनकर हीरानियों ने एक साथ कहा है स्वामी हम विधवा होकर इस घर में कभी नहीं रहेंगे हे नारद इस प्रकार उनकी इन्होंने जब स्वयं जाने के लिए आगरा किया तब वह सब के सब कुछ स्वाद के पास चल दिए अपनी माता तथा पिता को जाते हुए देखा बच्चों ने यह सोचा कि जब हमारे रक्षा की नहीं रहेंगे तो हम किसके आश्रय पर जिएंगे वस्तु हमें भी इसके साथ चलना उचित है तब वह भी उसके साथ चल दिए इस प्रकार हिरण का संपूर्ण परिवार उसे उपाध्याय के समीप जा पहुंचा क्या वह अधिक निर्गुण सबको अपने पास आते हुए देखा तो पूर्व की भांति फिर अपना धार्मिक चलता तो दिलाओ पत्र तथा जल पुनः शिवलिंग के ऊपर गिर पड़े और उसके चौथे पहाड़ का पूजन समाप्त हो गया चौथ पूजन होने होते ही वादी के संपूर्ण पाप नष्ट हो गए तब उसे श्रेष्ठ बुद्धि तथा उत्तम ज्ञान की प्राप्ति हुई जी समय हिरण ने दोनों हीरानियों तथा बच्चों के सहित उसके पास जाकर यह कहेवाडी आप तुम्हारे हमारे शरीर को शुद्ध करके हम सब का संघार करो निषाद अपने मन में इस प्रकार विचार करने लगा कि जिन पशुओं के बुद्धि हैं कहा जाता है वह मनुष्य की अपेक्षा कहीं अधिक धन्य है क्योंकि वह अपने शरीर को नष्ट करने करके भी पराए उपकार करने को तैयार रहते हैं ना जाने इन अशोक कर्मों के कारण मैं किस अवस्था को प्राप्त हो जाऊंगा हे नारद इस भांति अपने मन मे निश्चय करके वह अधिक ने आंखों से आंसू बातें हुए उन हीरोइनों को संबोधित कर उच्च स्वर में कहा है शुद्ध पशुओं तुम अपने घर लौट जाओ तुम्हारा जीवन तथा तुम्हारा धर्म धन्य है मैं तुम्हें प्रतिज्ञा के बाद धन से मुक्त करता हूं जिस समय निषाद ने उच्च स्वर में यह शब्द कहा इस समय शिवजी अत्यंत प्रसन्न होकर उसके सम्मुख प्रकट हो गए उन्हें वादे का हाथ पकड़ते हुए इस प्रकार कहा है निषाद हम तुमसे अत्यंत प्रसन्न है तुम्हें शिवरात्रि का व्रत रखकर अपने संपूर्ण पापों को नष्ट कर दिया है अब तुम्हारी जो इच्छा हो वह वह हमसे मांग लो हे नारद भगवान सदा शिव के श्रीमुख से यह वचन सुनकर निषाद उसके चरणों पर गिर पड़ा फिर हाथ जोड़ते हुए केवल यह कहा है प्रभु मैं आपके दर्शन करके ही सब कुछ पा लिया है तब भगवान भूत भवन में अत्यंत प्रसन्न होकर उसका नाम स्कंद रखा और स्वयं ही अनेक वर्ग देते हुए क्या कहा यह निषाद तुम्हारे सभी मनोरथ पूर्ण होंगे तब ट्राइटेश्वर को अपनी राजधानी बनाकर वाहन सुख पूर्वक राज करो तुम्हारे अनेक संताने होगी तथा सभी देवता तुम्हारे प्रशंसा किया करेंगे हमारे भक्त रामचंद्र जी तुम्हें अपना सेवक जानकर अत्यंत कृपा करेंगे वह तुम्हारे घर पधार करता था तुम्हें अपना मित्र बनकर संसार में यश प्रदान करेंगे इतनी कहकर भगवान सदा शिव मौन हो गए हे नारद भगवान भूत भवन के दर्शन पाने से उन हिरना के भी समस्त पाप नष्ट हो गए तब उन्होंने भी मृग यानी त्याग कर देव स्वरूप प्राप्त किया तदुपरांत हुए शिवजी की कृपा से विमान पर अरुण हो देवलोक को चले गए हुए ब्रिंग आज तक नक्षत्र रूप से आकाश में दिखाई देते हैं इस चरित्र को करने के उपरांत भगवान सदाशिव प्रत्यक्ष रूप में तो अंतर ध्यान हो गए तथा लिंग रूप में वही स्थित होकर बागेश्वर के नाम से प्रसिद्ध हुए बागेश्वर शिवलिंग अर्थ गिरी पर स्थित है श्री शिवजी की कृपा से वह भाग भी इसका नाम से प्रसिद्ध हो श्रृंगेश्वरपुर में जा पहुंचे तथा समस्त भीलों का राजा बनकर सुप्रवक राज करने लगा जब त्रेता युग में राजा रामचंद्र जी ने अवतार लिया तो उन्होंने स्कंध के घर पहुंच कर उसे बहुत सम्मानित किया रामचंद्र जी ने अत्यंत कृपा करके उसे शिवजी की भक्ति प्रदान की तथा शिव जी की अनुग्रह से वह इस लोक में सब प्रकार के सुख भोगकर अंत में समूचा मृत्यु को प्राप्त हुआ है नारद शिवरात्रि के व्रत की ऐसी महान महिमा है कि उसे बाग में अनजान में ही शिवरात्रि का व्रत करके मुक्ति को प्राप्त कर लिया सभी वेद तथा पुराने ने शिवरात्रि व्रत को सब व्रत का स्वामी कहा है बागेश्वर शिवलिंग का यह चरित्र भी संपूर्ण मनोकामनाओं को पूरा करने वाला है जो लोग इस चरित्र को पढ़ने सुनते अथवा दूसरों को सुनते हैं वह दोनों लोको में आनंद प्राप्त करते हैं

Narad ji said, O father, I have not yet completed my pilgrimage by listening to the importance of Shivratri fast. Today, please tell me what results those people who did Shivratri fast without knowing about it got. Hearing this, Brahma ji said, son, I will tell you a story in this regard which will give you joy in every way. In ancient times, there was a person famous by the name Nishad. He was a person who caused pain to all living beings, was violent and very harsh. His family was very big. He used to go to the forest every day and fight with animals and gain knowledge by stealing etc. He had not done any good deed since childhood. He used to live in the forest and did not let anyone rest there. He spent a lot of time doing such evil deeds. O Narad, one day such a situation arose that the food in his house got over. Then his parents, wife etc. got upset and said to him, we people die in happiness, today you arrange food for us. Listening to them, Nishad took his bow and arrow and went to a place. The day on which this incident happened was the day of Shivratri fast, but Nishad did not know about this. He did not know anything today. Even after roaming in the forest till evening, Nishad, who was fortunate, did not see any living creature. Now when the night time came, he became very restless and started thinking that I did not find any prey here, then what will I do after going home. Thereafter, thinking this, he reached the bank of a river. After making this decision, Nishad hid and sat on a rael tree on the bank of the river and kept watching that if any living creature comes to drink water on the bank of the river, then I will kill him. When the first part of the night was about to end, at that time a thirsty deer reached there jumping and running. On seeing her, Nishad strung his bow, the effect of which was that from the base of the bow, some leaves of the tree and the pure drinking water kept with Nishad fell on the Shivling installed under the tree. In this way, due to fate, the worship of his right hand side got completed on its own. Today, due to the effect of worshipping Shiva in the reign, many sins of Nishad were destroyed. O Narad. When Hirani saw Nishad sitting on the top of the Bael tree and holding a bow, he addressed him and asked, Nishad, why do you want to remove your bow? Nishad replied, Deer, all the people of my family are hungry the whole day. Today I have decided that I will kill you and relieve you of all your hunger. Hearing this, Hirani got worried and thought in his mind that I should somehow relieve him of his troubles. He addressed Nishad and said, Nishad, I am blessed that you want to fulfill your and your family's wish by eating my flesh. Although there is no doubt that your family's stomach will be filled by eating my flesh and I have no objection to it. Now Maya wants you to accept my request. O Narada. Hearing the deer's words, Nishad asked, what do you want to say? The deer said, O Nishad, there are many small children in my house. Now Maya wants that you make all of them happy like your sister and I will return you to me. Then you can kill me and fulfill your purpose. There is no other place like truth in the world. This earth is not a thing and even today it is standing on the strength of truth. I will also definitely keep my word true. In this way, Nishad prayed a lot to let them come home, but Nishad did not accept them. Seeing this, Narad, fearing in his mind, he started praying to Nishad by convincing him, O Nishad, if I have to return to you after making arrangements for my children, then I will be committing the sins which a person who behaves against the Vedas commits. At that time, believing the words of Narad, Nishad allowed him to come home. Then after drinking the heroine water, she went to her home and Nishad, sitting on this tree, started waiting for her. O Narad, when the second patra of the night came, at that time she reached this place in the guise of a deer. On seeing her, Nishad offered the feast outside. Due to this, many mourning leaves broke and fell on the Shivling and the Shiv worship of the second patra was done automatically. By this worship in a state of ignorance, even Assam's When the sins were destroyed, the second heroine, like the first deer, asked the reason for bowing to the disease and repeated her answer in Bihar. Her mother, very frightened in her heart, said thus: Nishad, it is my great fortune that you want to bring happiness to yourself and your family by my flesh. The body is perishable, if charity is done by it, then what can be more pleasurable than this. Still, I want that I hand over my little daughter to my husband, then come here and become the target of the second flood. When Nishad blessed her prayer, the lioness assured him and said thus: If I do anything for myself, then I will be guilty of the sins that I have committed by leaving my wife and having sex with a woman. Hearing this, Prasad also allowed her to go home. Then she drank water and went. The bow kept sitting at its place waiting for her to take it with her. Narad, on the other hand, when the deer did not return home for a long time and the third quarter of the night came, then the deer himself became anxious to find her and Bhishma also became anxious. He started towards it and when he reached the shore, even after seeing him Nishad did notHe pulled his bow due to which some Bilva leaves fell on the Shivling from the tree. Thus the worship of the third quarter was completed. With this worship, the base sins of Nishad were destroyed among the remaining sins. When the deer saw Nishad pulling the bow, he asked the reason for it and gave the same answer in his thoughts. Hearing this, the deer said, Nishad, I am fortunate that you want to use my body for your family. I have a child, let me hand him over to your wife. After the child sleeps, I will come here again. Then kill me and fulfill your desire. O Narada, hearing this, Nishad replied, deer, two animals like you have also come here before. They also left from here after making a promise like you, but have not returned yet. Thus, after being deceived twice, now I am not ready to trust you. Mother, I will not let you return in any way. Hearing such words of Nishad, the deer said, fortune, as long as I have protected the truth and have never lied in my life, I swear to you that whatever happens, I will come back to you. Hearing this, the deer also allowed him to go. Then the deer also drank water and returned to his home. O Narada ji, at home, the deer and the doe all got together and told them their respective boons. They started doubting each other after listening to each other's condition. Then the deer who had returned first after disbelieving the deer, started telling her husband in this way - Swami, first of all I have come after taking a vow from the higher secondary school. Then I should stay here and take care of the children. Hearing this, your deer said - no sister, this can never happen. The first woman is called the self-respecting woman of the house. Either I will give up my life and go to Swayambhuwadi. Hearing such words of both his women, the deer said - it is not good for a woman to go when the man is living. Today I will satisfy the family of the deer with my mind. Only a mother can take care of the children. Hearing these words of their husband, the deer women said together - Swami, we will never stay in this house as widows. O Narada, in this way when they themselves requested to go, then all of them went to the deer. They saw their mother and father going. Nishad thought that when there is no one to protect us, on whose shelter will we live. It is better for us to go with him. Then he also went with him. In this way, the entire family of the deer reached near the Upadhyaya. He saw everyone coming near him. Then as before, he again started his religious journey. The leaves and water again fell on the Shivling and the worship of the fourth mountain was over. As soon as the fourth worship was over, all the sins of the deer were destroyed. Then he got the best intellect and the best knowledge. At that time, the deer went to him along with both the queens and children and said this - "Purify your and our bodies and kill us all." Nishad started thinking in his mind that the animals who have intelligence are said to be more blessed than humans because they are ready to help others even by destroying their bodies. Who knows what state I will reach due to these great deeds, O Narada. Having decided in this way in his mind, the deer addressed the heroines with tears in his eyes and said in a loud voice - "Pure animals, you go back to your homes. Your life and yours will be destroyed." Dharma is blessed, I free you from the money after the pledge. When Nishad said this in a loud voice, Shivji appeared in front of him, very pleased. Holding his hand, he said, Nishad, we are very pleased with you. You have destroyed all your sins by observing the fast of Shivratri. Now whatever you wish, ask us. O Narada. Hearing these words from Lord Sada Shiv's mouth, Nishad fell on his feet. Then, folding his hands, Nishad said, Lord, I have got everything by seeing you. Then, being very pleased with the Bhoot Bhawan, the Lord named him Skand. He himself gave many categories and said, Nishad, all your wishes will be fulfilled. Then, make Triteshwar your capital and rule comfortably. You will have many children and all the gods will praise you. Our devotee Ramchandra Ji will bless you by considering you his servant. He used to visit your house. He will make you his friend and give you fame in the world. Saying this, Lord Sada Shiv became silent. O Narada. By seeing Bhoot Bhawan, all the sins of that deer were also destroyed. Then, he also killed the deer. That is, he renounced and attained the divine form. Thereafter, by the grace of Lord Shiva, Arun went to Devlok on a plane. Bring is visible in the sky in the form of a star till today.
