श्री शिव महापुराण कथा दसवां खंड अध्याय 7

इतनी कथा सुनकर नारद जी ने कहा हे पिता राजा मित्र साहब ने शिवरात्रि का व्रत करके किस प्रकार ब्रह्म हत्या से मुक्ति पाई वह वृतांत आप मुझे सुनने की कृपा करें ब्रह्मा जी बोले ही पुत्र शिवरात्रि का व्रत मुक्ति को देने वाला है फागुन कृष्ण चतुर्दशी के दिन इस व्रत का जागरण शिवलिंग दर्शन तथा उन पर बिलाव पत्र चढ़ाना अत्यंत फल दायक कहा गया है मोक्ष प्रदान करने में अन्य कोई बारात इतना शीघ्र प्रभावशाली नहीं है हे नारद बेस्वाद मनु के वश में मित्र सहनाम के राजा परम धर्मात्मा वेद पुराण कथा शास्त्रों को जाने वाला निजीत दयालु परम तेजस्वी महावीर ब्राह्मणों का सेवक अत्यंत सुंदर तथा शुभ कर्मों को करने वाला हुआ उसकी पत्नी का नाम दमयंती था जो राजा नल की पत्नी दमयंती के समान परम प्रतिरता थी एक दिन वह राजा अपनी सुना सहित शिकार खेलने के लिए वन में गया वहां उसने अनेक पशुओं का संघार किया अंत में उसकी रुचि ऐसी अधिक बड़ी की बहुत समय तक वह अपनी राजधानी को लौटकर नहीं आया वन में ही डेरा डाले पड़ा रहा हे नारद इस वैन में राजा ने कामत नामक एक राक्षस का संघार किया उसे रक्षा का दूसरा भाई भी वहां रहता था जब उसे यह ज्ञात हुआ कि राजा ने मेरे भाइयों को मार डाला है तो वह उसने बदला लेने का उपाय सोचने लगा निदान वह मनुष्य का रूप धारण कर राजा के पास पहुंचा और उसने यह प्रार्थना करने लगा कि आप मुझे अपना सेवक बना ले राजा ने उसे रक्षा की माया को नहीं जाना था उसे अपना रसोईया नियुक्त कर दिया जब कुछ दिन पश्चात राजा अपनी राजधानी में लौटकर आया तो उसने बड़ी प्रसन्नता पूर्वक अपने गुरु वशिष्ट जी को भोजन का निमंत्रण भेजा भोजन तैयार करने के लिए राजा ने इस रस हुई या रूप धारी राक्षस को आज्ञा दी हे नारद इस रसोईया रूपी राक्षस ने राजा का अहित करने के हेतु जो भोजन तैयार किया उसे मनुष्य का मांस पका दिया जिस मास प्रभाव भजन वशिष्ठ जी के सम्मुख परोसा गया उसे समय वशिष्ठ जी ने अपनी योग दृष्टि द्वारा यह जान लिया कि भोजन में मनुष्य का मांस मिला हुआ है तब उन्होंने अत्यंत क्रुद्ध होकर राजा मित्र शाह को या श्राप दिया कि तुम 12 वर्ष तक रक्षा बनकर रहोगे वशिष्ठ जी द्वारा इस प्रकार श्राप दिए जाने पर जब राजा ने विचार किया तो उसे या अभी ज्ञात हो गया कि इस भोजन में अनसूया रूपी राक्षस ने मुझे अपनी भाई की मृत्यु का बदला लेने के लिए मनुष्य का मांस जानबूझकर मिला दिया है फिर भी राजा का इसमें कोई दोष नहीं था तो उन्होंने जब यह देखा कि वशिष्ठ जी ने निर्दोष होते हुए भी मुझे श्राप दिया है तो उसने यह इच्छा की थी कि मैं वशिष्ठ जी को श्राप देकर या प्रमाणित करूंगा कि निर्दोष व्यक्ति को श्राप देना उचित नहीं है तब रानी ने राजा को वशिष्ठ जी को श्राप देने से रोक दिया राजा मित्र शाह उसी क्षण रक्षा स्वरूप हो गया और कल्प पाठ के नाम से प्रसिद्ध हुआ हे नारद राजा कप पाठ वन में जाकर बहू से जीवन को दुख पहुंचाने तथा उसे मारकर खाने लगा एक दिन उसने एक युवा ब्राह्मण को जो अपनी युवा स्त्री के साथ ब्राह्मण कर रहा था जहां पड़ा उसे समय ब्राह्मण ने राजा को बहुत कुछ समझाया परंतु कप पद में उसकी एक ही बात नहीं मानी तथा उसे ब्राह्मण का सिर फोड़ कर खा लिया यह देखकर ब्राह्मणी ने अपने पिता के साथ शादी होने का उपयोग किया तथा चिंता पर बैठे हुए राजा को या श्राप दिया कि जिस समय तू अपनी स्त्री से भोग करेगा इस समय तेरी मृत्यु हो जाएगी इतना कहकर वह स्त्री अग्नि में बीजेपी हो पति लोग में जा पहुंची हे नारद 12 वर्ष की अवधि विद्युत पर राजा पुणे मनुष्य रूप को प्राप्त हुआ तो अपने राज में पहुंच दादू प्रांत एक दिन उसने अपने स्त्री के साथ हो करने की इच्छा प्रकट की रानी ब्राह्मण पत्नी के शराब का समाचार का चुकी थी आज तो उसने राजा को समझाते हुए भोग करने से रोका उसे समय राजा ने मिथुन के बिना अन्य सांसारिक भोग को तुच्छया समझा राज पाठ त्याग कर वन में रहने का निश्चय किया तथा घर से निकल गया वन में उसकी भेंट एक मनी से हुई उसने उपदेश प्रकार राजा तीर्थ यात्रा करने के लिए स्थान स्थान पर भ्रमण करने लगा जिस समय राजा मित्र सा राक्षस रूप में था और उसमें ब्राह्मण की हत्या की थी तभी से उसकी पीछे ब्रह्म हत्या भी लगी रहती थी उसने मुक्ति पाने के हेतु जब वह तीर्थ यात्रा करता हुआ जनकपुरी में पहुंचा तो वहां उसकी भेंट गौतम मुनि से हुई मुनि को देखकर राजा ने या प्रार्थना किया है मनी ब्रह्म हत्य को दूर करने के हेतु मैं आपके तीर्थ में भ्रमण किया परंतु वह किसी भी प्रकार दूर नहीं होती अतः आप मुझे कोई ऐसा उपाय बताने की कृपा करें जिससे मेरा यह पाप नष्ट हो जाए हे नारद राजा मित्र शाह की प्रार्थना सुनकर गौतम जी ने कहा है राजन तुम इस ब्रह्म हत्य से मुक्ति पाने के हेतु पश्चिमी समुद्र के तट पर गांव कारण क्षेत्र में जाकर महाबल शिवलिंग का पूजा करो भगवान सदाशिव के सम्मान मुक्ति देने वाला अन्य कोई नहीं है हम भी इस गौरज गोकर्ण क्षेत्र में चले आ रहे हैं ऋषि ने या उपदेश सुना कर राजा मित्र सागर कारण क्षेत्र में जा पहुंचा वह महाबल शिवलिंग का पूजन करने क्षेत्र में स्नान करने तथा शिवरात्रि का व्रत करने से वह मुक्ति हो गया ब्राह्मणी का श्राप भी उसे शिव भक्ति के कारण निष्फल हो गया तब वह समस्त पापों से मुक्त हो घर लौट आया तथा आनंदपूर्वक अपनी रानी के साथ भोग विलास करने लगा यह नारद शिवरात्रि का व्रत मोक्ष प्रदान करने वाला है राजा मित्र साहब का यह व्रत भी अन्य अत्यंत आनंद दायक है जो लोग इस चरित्र को प्रतिदिन प्रतीत अथवा सकते हैं उसकी एक किस पीढ़ी तर जाती है

After listening to this story, Narad ji said, O father, please let me hear the story of how King Mitra Sahib got freedom from the sin of killing a brahmin by observing the fast of Shivratri. Brahma ji said, son, the fast of Shivratri gives salvation. On the day of Phagun Krishna Chaturdashi, the vigil of this fast, the darshan of Shivling and offering Bilva leaves on it are said to be very fruitful. No other ritual is so effective in giving salvation. O Narad, under the control of the tasteless Manu, the king named Mitra Sahana was a very religious man, who knew the Vedas, Puranas, stories and scriptures, was very kind, extremely radiant, a servant of Mahavir Brahmins, very beautiful and a doer of auspicious deeds. His wife's name was Damyanti, who was as loyal as King Nal's wife Damyanti. One day, the king went to the forest for hunting with his son. There, he killed many animals. In the end, his interest grew so much that he did not return to his capital for a long time. He camped in the forest. O Narad, in this van, the king killed a demon named Kamat. Another brother also lived there to protect him. When he came to know that the king has killed his brothers, he started thinking of a way to take revenge. Finally, he took the form of a human and reached the king and started praying that he should make him his servant. The king did not know the magic of Raksha. He appointed him as his cook. When the king returned to his capital after a few days, he very happily invited his Guru Vashisht ji for a meal. The king ordered this demon in the form of a cook to prepare the food. O Narada, this demon in the form of a cook cooked human flesh in the food he prepared to harm the king. When the meat was served in front of Vashisht ji, Vashisht ji came to know through his yogic vision that human flesh was mixed in the food. Then he became very angry and cursed King Mitra Shah that you will live as a Raksha for 12 years. When the king thought about this curse given by Vashisht ji, he came to know that in this food, the demon in the form of Anasuya had made me a human being to take revenge for the death of his brother. Meat was deliberately mixed in it, even then the king had no fault in it, so when he saw that Vashishtha ji cursed me despite being innocent, he wished that by cursing Vashishtha ji, I will prove that it is not right to curse an innocent person, then the queen stopped the king from cursing Vashishtha ji, king Mitra Shah became the form of protection at that very moment and became famous as Kalpa Paath. O Narada, king Kap Paath went to the forest and started tormenting the daughter-in-law's life and started killing and eating her. One day he saw a young Brahmin who was having sex with his young wife, where the Brahmin explained a lot to the king, but the king did not listen to a single word of his and he broke the head of the Brahmin and ate it. Seeing this, the Brahmin woman took advantage of her father's marriage and cursed the king who was sitting on the fire that the time you will have sex with your wife, at that time you will die. Saying this, the woman got into the fire and reached the husband's house. O Narada, after a period of 12 years, the king got human form on electricity, then reaching his kingdom, Dadu One day he expressed his desire to have sex with his wife. The queen had heard the news of the Brahmin's wife's drinking habit. Today she stopped the king from enjoying it by explaining to him. At that time the king considered other worldly pleasures as trivial without sex. He decided to renounce his kingdom and live in the forest and left his house. In the forest he met a sage. Following her advice the king started visiting different places to perform pilgrimages. When the king was in the form of a demon Mitra Sa and he had killed a Brahmin, since then the sin of Brahmahatya was also after him. To get salvation, when he reached Janakpuri while performing pilgrimages, he met Gautam Muni there. On seeing the sage the king prayed to him that he had visited your pilgrimages to get rid of Brahmahatya but it was not getting removed in any way. So please tell me a remedy by which this sin of mine gets destroyed. O Narada on hearing the prayer of King Mitra Shah Gautam Ji said that to get rid of this Brahmahatya, go to the village Karan area on the coast of the western sea and worship Mahabal Shivaling. In the honor of Lord Sadashiv, you will get salvation. There is no one else who is like this, we too are coming to this Gaurj Gokarna region. After giving the sermons of the sage, King Mitra reached Sagar Karan region. By worshipping the Mahabal Shivaling, taking bath in the region and observing the Shivratri fast, he got salvation. The curse of the Brahmini also became ineffective due to his devotion to Shiva. Then he returned home freed from all the sins and started enjoying pleasures with his queen. This Narada Shivratri fast gives salvation. This fast of Raja Mitra Saheb is also very joyful. Those who can follow this practice daily, one generation of theirs gets blessed.
