ब्रह्मा जी ने कहा हे नारद अब मैं चतुर्दशी के व्रत का महत्व कहता हूं यदि यह व्रत अनजान में भी हो जाए तो भी श्रेष्ठ फल प्रदान करता है पुरुष समय में की रात देश का विमर नामक एक राजा था वह अत्यंत बलवान धैर्यवान दुष्ट अध्याय नीचे हिंसक कामी क्रोध कठोर सभी जीवों का मांस खाने वाला तथा सभी वर्णों की स्त्रियों के साथ भोग करने वाला था परंतु इतना सब होते हुए भी वह चतुर्दशी को प्राप्त को बहुत प्रिय समझता था दोनों पक्षों की चतुर्दशी को आज शिवजी का विशेष रूप में पूजन करता था तथा बड़ा उत्सव बनाकर शिव व्रत करता था उसे दिन वह शिव जी के सम्मुख नृत्य गायन सबको सब लोगों को दान देता और सभी पाप कर्मों को त्याग देता था हे नारद विस्मरण की रानी का नाम कुंबद्वति था वह परम सुशीला पतिव्रता तथा कला कुशल थी एक दिन उसने अपने पति को अधर्मो में लिप्त देखकर इस प्रकार कहा है स्वामी आप प्रतिदिन मांस भक्षण करते हैं तथा सभी प्रकार के स्त्रियों के साथ भोग विलास में संलग्न रहते हैं आपने बहुत से जीवन का वध भी किया है तथा प्रत्येक प्रकार का पाप कर्म आपको प्रिया परंतु इनमें इतनी पर भी आप शिवजी का पूजन किया करते हैं यह देखकर मुझे अत्यंत आचार्य होता है और तुम मैं आपसे यह जानना चाहती हूं कि आपने शिव जी के प्रति ऐसे प्रतीत उपदेश कहां प्राप्त किया है हे नारद रानी कैसे वचन सुनकर जी के अनेक बीमारान ने हंसते हुए उत्तर दिया है रानी पूर्व जन्म में एक कुत्ता था वह प्रतिदिन पंपासुर नामक नगर में ब्राह्मण किया करता था मेरा संपूर्ण जीवन भूख प्यास में व्याकुल इधर-उधर ब्राह्मण करते हुए व्यतीत हुआ योग हुआ शेख दिन में एक शिव मंदिर के समझ जा पहुंचा उसे समय मंदिर में शिवजी के अनेक भक्त पूजा कर रहे थे मुझे वहां खड़े देखकर जब उन शिव भक्तों ने मुझे मारकर भगाया तो मैं कुछ देर के लिए तो इधर उधर है गया परंतु फिर शिवलिंग पर चढ़ ही हुई सामग्री को खाने की इच्छा से इसकी स्थान पर जा पहुंचा मैं उसे शिवालय के चारों ओर बार-बार चक्कर काटता हुआ भोजन के लोग से शिवजी का पूजन देखता रह तब मुझे मंदिर के पास से हटते ना देखकर एक मनुष्य ने अत्यंत क्रुद्ध हो मेरे ऊपर बाढ़ का प्रहार किया उसे बाढ़ के लगते ही मैं निर्जीव होकर पृथ्वी पर गिर पड़ा इस प्रकार शिव पूजन देखते हुए मेरी मृत्यु हुई हे प्रिय इस प्रकार मैंने पूर्व जन्म में चतुर्दशी का पूजन तथा दीपों की माला देखी थी उसे पूर्ण के कारण मैं भूत भविष्य तथा वर्तमान तीनों कलाओं का संपूर्ण हल जानता हूं पूर्व जन्मों के संस्कारों के कारण में भाग-भक्त सभी वस्तुओं को खाता हुआ तो भी चतुर्दशी के दिन शिवजी का जन्म करना नहीं छोड़ा इस पूजन का ही यह प्रताप है कि मेरे का शुभ कर्म शुभ कर्म में परिवर्तन हो जाते हैं हैरानी माय यह चाहती कि मुझे भी शिव पूजन के माता को समझ कर चतुर्दशी के दिन भगवान सदाशिव की पूजा किया करो राजा कैसे वचन सुनकर रानी ने कहा हे प्रभु आप मेरे पूर्व जन्म का हाल भी बताने की कृपा करें हे नारद यह सुनकर राजा ने उत्तर दिया है प्रिया पूर्व जन्म में तुम एक कस्तूरी थी कबूतरी एक दिन तुम्हें मांस का एक टुकड़ा मिला तभी एक जीत ने तुम्हारा पीछा किया जिससे भयभीत होकर तुम भागती हुई श्री गिरी शिवालय पर जा बैठी परंतु गीत ने वहां भी पहुंचकर तुमसे मांस का टुकड़ा छीन लिया तथा तुम्हें घायल करके उड़ गया इस घायल अवस्था में तुम शिवालय से गिरकर मृत्यु को प्राप्त हो गई मृत्यु के समय तुमने शिवलिंग के दर्शन दिए उसे पूर्ण प्रताप से इस जन्म में तुम हमारी रानी हो तब उसने राजा से इस प्रकार कहा है स्वामी अब आप कृपा करके अपने तथा मेरे भविष्य का वृतांत और सुनाइए हे नारद यह सुनकर राजा ने कहा है प्रिया अगले जन्म में मैं सिंह देश का राजा बनेगा और तुम राजा संजय की पुत्री बनाकर जन्म लगी तब भी तुम्हारा विवाह मेरे साथ होगा तीसरे जन्म में सौराष्ट्र के राजा का पुत्र होकर तुम्हारे साथ विवाह करूंगा तब तुम कालिंग देश के राजा की कन्या बनकर जन्म लोग चौथ जान में मैं गंगा धरती के राजा का पुत्र होकर तुम्हारे साथ विवाह करूंगा तब तुम मध्य प्रदेश के राजा के यहां पुत्री का जन्म पाओगे पांचवें जन्म में मैं उज्जैनी के राजा का पुत्र बनेगा और तुम राजा दशहरा की पुत्री होकर मेरे साथ भी आओगे छठवें जन्म में अंतर देश के राजा का पुत्र बनेगा और तुम राजा यति के कुल में उत्पन्न होकर मेरी पत्नी होगी ताड़ूपरान साथ में जन्म में पांचाल देश के राजा भगवान के रूप में मेरा जन्म होगा और तुम विदास देश के राजा के घर में बासुमति नाम से जन्म ग्रहण करोगे तब तुम्हारे पिता स्वयंवर की रचना करेंगे तो मैं अन्य राजाओं को जीतकर तुम्हें ले आऊंगा और तुम्हारे साथ विवाह करूंगा उसे समय हम दोनों भगवान सदाशिव की पूजा में संलग्न होकर भोग विलास करते हुए संतान उत्पन्न करेंगे अंत में हम दोनों अपने पुत्र को राजा देकर वन में चले जाएंगे वहां अगस्त की मुनि से ज्ञान प्राप्त कर शिवलोक को प्राप्त होंगे तब हमारी गाना शिव जी के गांव में होगी इस प्रकार चतुर्दशी व्रत के प्रभाव से हम साथ जन्म तक राजा रानी होते रहेंगे हे नारद इस प्रकार की बहुत सी बातें कह कर राजा विस्मरण ने अपनी पत्नी को संतुष्ट किया तथा अपना शेष जीवन शिव पूजन एवं चतुर्दशी का व्रत धारण करने में बिता दिय साथ में जन्म में इस व्रत के प्रभाव से उसकी मुक्ति होगी चतुर्दशी व्रत की ऐसे महान महिमा और राजा विस्मरण का यह वृत्तांत भी आनंद मंगलो को देने वाला है जो लोग इसे पढ़ने अथवा सुनते हैं उसकी सभी मनोकामनाएं पूर्ण होती है

Brahma Ji said, O Narada, now I am telling you the importance of the Chaturdashi fast. If this fast is observed unknowingly, it still gives the best results. There was a king named Vimar in the country of Purush Samay. He was very strong, patient, wicked, violent, lustful, short-tempered, used to eat the meat of all creatures and used to indulge in sex with women of all castes. But despite all this, he used to love the Chaturdashi very much. On the Chaturdashi of both sides, he used to worship Lord Shiva in a special way and used to celebrate Shiva fast by making a big festival. On that day, he used to sing, dance and donate to all people in front of Lord Shiva and used to abandon all sinful acts. O Narada, the name of the queen of Vimaran was Kumbhadvati. She was extremely well behaved, devoted to her husband and skilled in arts. One day, seeing her husband involved in sins, she said this: Swami, you eat meat every day and indulge in sex with all types of women. You have also killed many lives and you love every type of sinful act. But even after this, you are the best friend of Lord Shiva. Seeing this I feel very proud and I want to know from you that from where did you get such teachings towards Lord Shiva. O Narad queen, on hearing such words many of the sick men of the Lord replied laughingly, Queen in my previous life there was a dog. He used to worship Brahmans in a city called Pampasur every day. My whole life was spent wandering here and there in hunger and thirst. I happened to reach a Shiv temple. At that time many devotees of Lord Shiva were worshipping in the temple. Seeing me standing there, those devotees of Lord Shiva beat me and chased me away. I ran away for some time but then with the desire to eat the food offered on the Shivling, I went to its place. I kept circling around the temple again and again and kept watching the people worshipping Lord Shiva. Then seeing me not moving away from the temple, a man got very angry and attacked me with a sword. As soon as the sword hit me, I became lifeless and fell on the ground. In this way I died while watching the worship of Shiva. O dear, in this way I worshipped Chaturdashi and offered garland of lamps in my previous life. I had seen it because of the completeness of the past, future and present, I know the complete solution of all the three phases. Due to the sanskaars of the previous births, even though I ate all the things, I did not stop taking birth of Shiva on the day of Chaturdashi. It is the power of this worship that my good deeds get transformed into good deeds. The queen wanted that considering me as the mother of Shiva worship, you should worship Lord Sadashiv on Chaturdashi. On hearing this, the queen said, O Lord, please tell me the story of my previous birth too. O Narada. On hearing this, the king replied, dear, in your previous birth you were a musk dove. One day you got a piece of meat. Then a geet chased you. Frightened by this, you ran and sat on the Shri Giri Shivalaya. But the geet reached there and snatched the piece of meat from you and flew away after injuring you. In this injured state, you fell from the Shivalaya and died. At the time of death, you gave darshan of Shivalinga to him with complete power. In this birth, you are our queen. Then she said to the king in this way, Swami, now please tell me the story of your and my future. And tell me Narada, on hearing this the king said dear, in the next birth I will become the king of Singh Desh and you will be born as the daughter of king Sanjaya, even then you will be married to me, in the third birth I will be the son of the king of Saurashtra and marry you, then you will be born as the daughter of the king of Kaling Desh, in the fourth birth I will be the son of the king of Ganga land and marry you, then you will be born as the daughter of the king of Madhya Pradesh, in the fifth birth I will be the son of the king of Ujjaini and you will come with me as the daughter of king Dussehra, in the sixth birth I will be the son of the king of Antar Desh and you will be born in the family of king Yati and will be my wife, in the next birth I will be born as the king of Panchal Desh and you will be born in the house of the king of Vidas Desh with the name Basumati, then your father will organize a swayamvar, then I will bring you after defeating other kings and will marry you, at that time we both will engage in the worship of Lord Sadashiv and will have children while enjoying pleasures, finally we both will give the kingship to our son and go to the forest There, after gaining knowledge from the sage Agastya, we will attain Shivalok, then our village will be in Shiva's village. In this way, due to the effect of the Chaturdashi fast, we will continue to be King and Queen till our next birth, O Narada. By saying many such things, King Vismaraan satisfied his wife and spent the rest of his life worshipping Shiva and observing the Chaturdashi fast. In his next birth, due to the effect of this fast, he would attain salvation. Such great glory of the Chaturdashi fast and this story of King Vismaraan is going to give joy and auspiciousness. Those who read or listen to it, all their wishes are fulfilled.
