श्री शिव महापुराण कथा 11वां खंड अध्याय 6

ब्रह्मा जी ने कहा हे नारद मैंने जिन सातों लोग का वर्णन किया है उसे सब का  विस्तार 10 10 सहस्त्र योजन है वह सब एंड के समान गोल तथा सुडौल है एवं उनकी लंबाई 7 लाख की योजन है उन साथ लोगों के नीचे एक अन्य लोग और है जिससे शेष लोग कहा जाता है वह लोग इन सब लोगों का मूल है उसका विस्तार 20 सहस्त्र योजन है उसमें सहस्त्र भंडारी शेष जी विराजमान रहते हैं वह अपने मस्तक पर पृथ्वी को धारण किए हुए हैं तथा शिव जी के तामसी रूप हैं उसके नाम संकरण एवं अनंत आदि है हुए प्रतिदिन भगवान सदाशिव का स्मरण किया करते हैं कोई प्रलय काल आने पर रुद्र की दोनों लोगों के बीच में उत्पन्न होकर 11 शरीर धारण करते हैं तथा अपने प्रकाश द्वारा प्रलय करके सबका नाश कर देते हैं उन सब उनका स्वरूप भयानक होता है तथा उसके हाथों में त्रिशूल दिखाई देते हैं पर लेकर सूखने के उपरांत हुए सुंदर स्वरूप धारण कर लेते हैं हे नारद शेष जी का पूजन तथा श्रवण करने से सब प्रकार के सुखों की प्राप्ति होती है उसकी पूजन से शिवजी प्रसन्न होते हैं क्योंकि वह शिवजी के परम भक्त तथा उन्हें के एक स्वरूप है हुए शिव जी के इस प्रकार स्तुति किया करते हैं हे भगवान सदाशिव आप भक्तों को आनंद प्रदान करने के लिए पृथ्वी पर अवतार ग्रहण करते हैं आप दूसरों का दंड देने वाले तथा सेवकों को आनंद प्रदान करने वाले हैं जिस समय हलाहल 20 उत्पन्न होने पर संपूर्ण सृष्टि जल जा रही थी तब आपने ही उसे 20 को तीनों लोक को दूर किया था कल भी आपसे भयभीत रहता है फिर मैं आपकी महिमा का वर्णन किस प्रकार करूंगा

Brahma Ji said, O Narada, the seven planets that I have described are spread over 10 thousand yojanas each. All of them are round and well-shaped like the end and their length is 7 lakh yojanas. Below those seven planets, there is another planet which is called Shesh. That planet is the root of all these planets. Its spread is 20 thousand yojanas. Sahastra Bhandaari Shesh Ji resides in it. He holds the earth on his head. He is the Tamasi form of Shiv Ji. His names are Sankaran and Anant etc. He remembers Lord Sadashiv daily. When there is a time of deluge, Rudra is born between the two planets and takes 11 bodies and destroys everyone by causing deluge with his light. His form is terrifying and Trishul is seen in his hands, but after drying up, he assumes a beautiful form. O Narada, by worshipping and listening to Shesh Ji, one gets all kinds of happiness. Shiv Ji is pleased by worshipping him because he is the supreme devotee of Shiv Ji and one of his forms. We praise Lord Shiva in this way - O Lord Sadashiv, you take incarnation on earth to give joy to your devotees. You are the one who punishes others and gives joy to your devotees. When the whole universe was burning after the creation of Halahal, you yourself had driven him away from the three worlds. Even today people are afraid of you. Then how will I describe your glory?
