चावड़ी समारोह इस अध्याय में हम कुछ वेदांटिक विषयों पर प्रारंभिक दृष्टि से संलोचन पर चौड़ी के भव्य समारोह का वर्णन करेंगे प्रारंभ धन्य है श्री साइन जिसका जैसा जीवन था वैसा ही एपनिया लीला विलास और अद्भुत क्रियो से पूर्ण नित्य के कार्यक्रम भी कभी तो हुए समस्त सांसारिक कार्यों से अर्पित रहकर कर्मकांडी से प्रतीत होते और कभी ब्रह्मानंद और आत्म ज्ञान से निर्मित रहा करते थे तभी वह अनेक कार्य करते हुए भी उनके ऐसा संबंध रहते थे यद्यपि कभी-कभी वह पूर्ण निष्क्रिय प्रतीत होते तड़पी हुए आलसी नहीं थे प्रशांत महासागर की तरह सदैव जागरूक रहकर भी हुए गंभीर प्रशांत और स्थिर दिखाई देते थे उसकी प्राकृतिक का वर्णन तो समर्थ से परे हैं यह तो सर्व विदित है कि वह बाल ब्रह्मचारी थे वह सदैव पुरुषों को प्रभाव तथा स्त्रियों को माता या बहन सदृश्य की समझना करते थे उनकी संगति द्वारा हमें जी अनुपम ज्ञान की उपलब्धि हुई है उनकी विस्मृति मृत्यु पर्यंत ना होने पाए ऐसे उनके श्री चरणों में हमारे विनम्र प्रार्थना है हमारा समस्त भूतों में ईश्वर का ही दर्शन करें और नाम स्मरण की अरसा अनुपाती करते हुए हम उनके मोह विनाशक चरणों की अन्य भाव से सेवा करते रहे यही हमारी आकांक्षा है हेमा दत्त पंत ने अपने दृष्टिकोण द्वारा आवश्यकता अनुसार दिन देवदंत का विवरण देकर चावड़ी के समारोह का वर्णन निम्न प्रकार किया है चावड़ी का समारोह बाबा के स्वयंवर का वर्णन पहले ही हो चुका है वह एक दिन मस्जिद में और दूसरे दिन चावड़ी में विश्राम किया करते थे और यह कार्यक्रम उनकी महासमाधि पर्यंत लागू रहा भक्तों ने चावड़ी में नियमित रूप से उनका पूजन अर्चन 10 दिसंबर सन 1909 से आरंभ कर दिया था अब उनके चरण पादुका का ध्यान रखकर हम चावड़ी के समारोह का वर्णन करेंगे इन मनमोहक दृश्य था कि देखने वाले ठीक-ठीक कर रहे कर रह जाते थे और अपने सूट-बूट भूल कर यही आकांक्षा करते थे कि यह दृश्य हम कभी हमारी आंखों से उलझ ना हो जब चावड़ी में विश्राम करने की उनकी नियमित रात्रि आई तो उसे रात्रि को भक्तों का अपार जन समुदाय मस्जिद के सभा मंडप में एकत्रित होकर घंटे तक भजन किया करता था उसे मंडप के एक और सुसजीत रात रखा रहता था और दूसरी ओर तुलसी वृंदावन था सारे राशि जनसभा मंडप में लाल के पुलिस करताल मृत्यु खजरी और ढोलक आदि नाना प्रकार के वाद्य लेकर भजन आरंभ कर देते थे इन सभी भजन नदी भक्तों को चुम्मा के समान आकर्षित करने वाले तो श्री साइन बाबा ही थे मस्जिद के आंगन को देखा तो भक्तगण बड़ी उमंग से नाना प्रकार के मंगल कार्य संपन्न करने में संलग्न थे कोई तोरण बांधकर दीपक जला रहे थे तो कोई पालकी औरत का सिंगार कर निशान आदि हाथों में लिए हुए थे कहीं-कहीं श्री साइन बाबा के जय जयकार से आकाश मंडल गुंजन मन हो रहा था दीपों के प्रकाश से जगमगाती मस्जिद ऐसे प्रतीत हो रही थी मानो ज्ञान मंगल दयानी दीपावली स्वयं श्रेणी में आकर विराजित हो गए और मस्जिद के बाहर दृष्टिपात किया तो द्वार पर श्री साइन बाबा का पूर्ण सुसज्जित घोड़ा श्याम सुंदर खड़ा था साइन बाबा अपनी गाड़ी प्रशांत मुद्रा में विराजित थे कि इसी बीच भक्त मंडली सहित तात्या पाटील ने आकर उन्हें तैयार होने की सूचना देते हुए उठने में सहायता की घनिष्ठ संबंध होने के कारण तात्या पाटील ने मां का कर संबोधित किया करते थे बाबा सदैव की भांति अपनी वही कंपनी पहना कर बगल में सटका दरबार चिलम और तंबाकू साथ लेकर कंधे पर एक कपड़ा डालकर चलने को तैयार हो गए तभी तात्या पाटील ने उनके कंधों पर एक सुनहरा जारी का सेल डाल दिया इसके पश्चात स्वयं बाबा ने धोनी को प्रज्वलित रखने के के लिए उसमें कुछ लड़कियां डालकर तथा धोनी के समीप के दीपक को बाएं हाथ में बूझकर चौड़ी को प्रस्थान कर दिए आप नाना प्रकार के वाद्य बजाने आरंभ हो गए और उनकी विधि स्वर निकलने लगे सामने रंग बिरंगी आतिशबाजी चलने लगी और नर नारी भली भांति के बाध्य बजा कर उसकी कृति के भजन गाते हुए आगे आगे चलने लगे कोई आनंद विभोर हो नृत्य करने लगा तो कोई अनेक प्रकार के ध्वज और निशान लेकर चलने लगे जैसे ही बाबा ने मस्जिद की सीढ़ी पर अपने चरण रखे वैसे ही भंडार से ललकार कर उसके प्रस्थान की सूचना दी दोनों ओर से लोग शहर लेकर खड़े हो गए और उन पर पंख झलकने लगे फिर पद पर दूर तक पीछे हुए कपड़ों के ऊपर से समारोह आगे बढ़ने लगा तात्या पाटील उनका बाय तथा महाल्शा पति दाया हाथ पकड़ कर तथा बापू साहब कर उनके पीछे छात लेकर चलने लगे इसके आगे आगे पूर्ण सोचा जीत आश्वास श्याम सुंदर चल रहा था और उनके पीछे भजन मंडली तथा भक्तों का समूह बाध्य की धोने के सॉन्ग हरि और सहायक नाम की धोनी जिसे आकाश गूंज उठता था उत्साहित करते हुए चल रहा था आप समझ चावड़ी के होने पर पहुंचा और सारा जन समुदाय अत्यंत आनंदी तथा प्रफुल्लित दिखलाई पढ़ने लगा जब कोने पर पहुंच कर बाबा चावडी के सामने खड़े हो गए उसे समय उसके मुख मंडल की दिव्या प्रभाव बड़ी अनोखी थी ऐसा प्रतीत होने लगा मानो अरुणोदय के समय बाल रवि जी तीज आयोजित हो रहा हो उत्तर अभिमुख होकर हुए एक ऐसी मुद्रा में खड़े हो गए जैसे कोई किसी के आगमन के प्रतीक्षा कर रहा हो वाद्य पूर्ण ही बजाते रहे और वह अपने दाहिने हाथ थोड़ी देर ऊपर नीचे उठाते रहे वादक बड़े जोर से बढ़ बजने लगे और इस समय काका साहब दीक्षित गुलाल की वर्षा करने लगे बाबा के मुख मंडल पर रक्त में आ जर्मनी लगे और सब लोग तृप्ति हृदय होकर उसे रस माधुरी का आशीर्वाद पहन करने लगे इस मनमोहक दृश्य और अवसर पर वर्णन शब्दों में करने में लेकिन असमर्थ है भाव विभोर होकर भक्त महालसा पति तो नृत्य करने लगे परंतु बाबा की अभंग एक काग्रता देखकर सब भक्तों को महान आश्चर्य होने लगा एक साथ लालटेन लिए तात्या पाटील बाबा के भाई और आभूषण लिए महालसा पति दाहिनी और चले देखो तो कैसे सुंदर समारोह की शोभा तथा भक्ति का दर्शन हो रहा है इस दृश्य की झांकी पाने के लिए है शास्त्रों नर नारी क्या अमीर और क्या फकीर सभी वह एकत्रित थे अब बाबा मंद मंद गति से आगे बढ़ने लगे और चारों ओर प्रशांत का वातावरण दिखाई पड़े लगा संपूर्ण वायुमंडल भी खुशी में झूम उठा और इस प्रकार समारोह चावड़ी पहुंचा और वैसा इंद्री से भविष्य में कोई ना देख सके आप तो केवल उसकी सहायता करके आंखों के सम्मुख उसे मनोरम अतिथि की कल्पना ऐसे ही आदमी हृदय प्यार शांत करनी पड़े चावड़ी की सजावट भी अति उत्तम प्रकार से की गई थी उत्तम चांदी शीशे और भली भांति हटी लालटेन गैस भारती लगे हुए थे चावड़ी पहुंचने पर तात्या पार्टी लगे बड़े और आसान बेचकर तकिए के सहारे उन्हें बाबा को बैठाया फिर उनको एक बढ़िया आक पहनाया और भक्तों ने नाना प्रकार से उसकी पूजा की उन्हें स्वर्ण मुकुट धारण कराया तथा फूलों और जड़ों की मलाई के गले में पहने फिर लालटेन पर कस्तूरी का वैष्णवी तिलक तथा मांड में बिंदी लगाकर दीर्घकाल तक उनकी और पलक निहारत रहे उनके सिर का कपड़ा बदल दिया गया और उसके ऊपर ही उठा रहे क्योंकि सभी सांकेतिक थे कि वह कहीं हुए उसे फेंक ना दे परंतु बाबा तो अंतर्यामी थे उन्होंने भक्तों को उनकी इच्छा अनुसार ही पूजन कर देने दिया इस आभूषण में सुसज्जित होने के उपरांत उसकी शोभा अवनी थी नानासाहेब ने मालाकार ने एक सुंदर बेटा का अंत छत लगाया जिसके केंद्र में एक बड़ी लगी हुई थी बाबू साहब जोड़ने चांदी की एक सुंदर थाली में पद प्रतिक्षण किया और अर्थ देने के पश्चात उत्तम विधि उसका पूजन अर्चन किया और उसके हाथों में चंदन लगाकर पहनकर बीड़ा लिया उन्हें आसन पर बिठलाया और तात्या पाटील तथा अन्य सब भक्तगण उनके श्री चरणों पर अपने अपने शीश झुकाकर प्रणाम करने लगे तब वह तकिया के सहारे बैठ गए तब भक्तगण दोनों और से चावल और पंखे झलकने लगे सामान्य चिलम तैयार कर हत्या पाटिल को दिया उन्होंने एक भूख लगाकर चिलम प्रज्वलित की और उन्हें बाबा को पीने को दिया उनके चिलम पी लिए ने के पश्चात फिर वह भक्त महाशक्ति को तथा बाद में सब भक्तों को दे दी गई धन्य है वह निर्जीव चिलम कितना महानता है जिसे जिसे कुमार द्वारा पहले चक्कर घूम आए धूप में सुख है फिर अग्नि में तप आए जैसे अनेक संस्कार पाए तब कहीं उसे बाबा के कार्य स्पर्श तथा चुंबन का सौभाग्य प्राप्त हुआ जब यह सब कार्य समाप्त हो गया तब भक्तगण ने बाबा को फूल मालाओं से लड़ दिया और सुगंधित फूलों के गुलदस्ते उन्हें भेंट की बाबा तो वैराग्य के पूर्ण अवसर अवतार थे हुए उन हीरे जावरा हटवा फूलों के आप तथा इस प्रकार की साझेदारी के में कम रुचि रख रुचि लेने वाले थे परंतु भक्तों के सच्चे प्रेम वास कि उनकी इच्छा अनुसार पूजन करने में उन्होंने कोई आपत्ति ना कि अंत में मांगलिक स्वर में बद्दी बजने लगे और बापू साहब जोर ने बाबा की यथाविधि आरती की आरती समाप्त होने पर भक्तों ने बाबा को प्रणाम किया और उनके आज्ञा लेकर सब एक-एक करके अपने घर लौटने लगे तब तात्या पार्टी ने उन्हें चिलम पिलाकर गुलाब जल इत्र इत्यादि लगाकर विदा देते समय गुलाब का एक पूर्ण दिया तभी बाबा प्रेम पूर्वक कहने लगे तात्या मेरा देखभाल भली भांति करना तुम्हें घर जाना है तो जाओ परंतु रात्रि में कभी-कभी आकर मुझे देख भी जाना तब स्वीकार आत्मक उत्तर देकर तात्या पाटील चावड़ी से अपने घर चले गए फिर बाबा ने बहुत सी चादर बेचकर स्वयं अपना बिस्तर लगाकर विश्राम किया अब हम श्री विश्राम करें और इस अध्याय को समाप्त करते हुए हम पाठकों से प्रार्थना करते हैं कि वह प्रतिदिन सायं के पूर्व श्री साइन बाबा और चौड़ी समारोह का ध्यान अवश्य कर लिया करें श्री सद्गुरु साईनाथ को प्रणाम सुभम बहुत

Chavadi Ceremony In this chapter we will describe the grand ceremony of Chavadi on discussion with an initial view on some Vedantic topics. Beginning Blessed is Shri Sain whose life was similar to his daily programs full of leela vilas and amazing activities. Being devoted to all worldly works, he used to seem ritualistic and sometimes he used to be filled with Brahmananda and self-knowledge. That is why even while doing many works, he used to have such a relationship with him, although sometimes he used to seem completely inactive, not lazy, like the Pacific Ocean, being always alert, he used to appear serious, calm and steady. Description of his nature is beyond capability. It is well known that he was a celibate from childhood. He always used to consider men as his influence and women as his mother or sister. Through his company, we have attained matchless knowledge. May we not forget him till death, it is our humble prayer at his lotus feet. May we see God in all beings and by doing long recitation of his name, we keep on serving his feet which destroy attachment with a different feeling. This is our aspiration. Hema Dutt Pant has described the ceremony of Chavadi in the following manner by giving the details of the day Devdant as per the need from his point of view. Ceremony of Chavadi Baba's Swayamvar has already been described. He used to rest in the mosque one day and in the Chavadi on the other day and this program continued till his Mahasamadhi. The devotees had started worshipping him regularly in the Chavadi from 10 December 1909. Now keeping in mind his Charan Paduka, we will describe the ceremony of Chavadi. This was an enchanting scene that the onlookers would be left mesmerized and forgetting their suits and boots, they wished that this scene should never get lost in their eyes. When his regular night of resting in the Chavadi came, that night a huge crowd of devotees used to gather in the Sabha Mandap of the mosque and sing bhajans for hours. Sujit rat was kept on one side of the Mandap and Tulsi Vrindavan was on the other side. All the devotees used to start singing bhajans in the public meeting hall with various types of instruments like Lal's Police, Kartal, Mrityu Khajri and Dholak etc. All these bhajans were sung by the devotees. It was Shri Sain Baba who attracted everyone like a kiss. When I looked at the courtyard of the mosque, the devotees were engaged in various auspicious activities with great enthusiasm. Some were tying a festoon and lighting lamps, some were adorning a palanquin, carrying a woman's flag etc. in their hands. At some places, the sky was resonating with the chants of Shri Sain Baba. The mosque glittering with the light of the lamps appeared as if the Gyan Mangal Dayani Deepawali itself had come and sat in the palace. When I looked outside the mosque, Shri Sain Baba's fully decorated horse Shyam Sundar was standing at the door. Sain Baba was seated in his carriage in a peaceful posture. Meanwhile, Tatya Patil along with his group of devotees came and informed him to get ready and helped him to get up. Due to their close relationship, Tatya Patil used to address him as mother. Baba, as always, wore his same shawl, took a Satka Darbar chillum and tobacco with him and put a cloth on his shoulder and got ready to leave. Then Tatya Patil put a golden chain on his shoulders. After this Baba himself put some lamps in the lamp to keep it lit and holding the lamp near the lamp in his left hand, left for the Chaudi. He started playing various types of musical instruments and their special sounds started coming out. Colourful fireworks started going off in front and men and women started walking ahead playing the Baand and singing bhajans of his work. Some started dancing in joy and some started walking with various types of flags and symbols. As soon as Baba placed his foot on the steps of the mosque, he announced his departure by shouting from the storehouse. People stood up from both sides with their hands raised and feathers started appearing on them. Then the ceremony started moving forward from above the clothes that went far behind him. Tatya Patil held his left hand and Mahalsha Pati held his right hand and Bapu Saheb started walking behind him holding an umbrella. Purna Socha Jeet Ashwas Shyam Sundar was walking ahead of him and behind him the Bhajan Mandali and a group of devotees were walking cheering the songs of the Baand's Bhajan. The Baand's name was Hari and Sahayak, which made the sky resound. He reached the Chawadi and the whole The crowd appeared to be very happy and cheerful. When Baba reached the corner and stood in front of the Chavadi, the divine effect on his face was very unique. It seemed as if a festival of Ravi Ji was being celebrated at the time of sunrise. He stood facing north in such a posture as if someone was waiting for someone's arrival. He kept playing the instrument and kept raising his right hand up and down for some time. The musicians started playing very loudly and at this time Kaka Saheb Dixit started showering gulal. Baba's face was covered with blood and everyone started blessing him with Ras Madhuri with a satisfied heart. It is difficult to describe this beautiful scene and occasion in words but being overwhelmed with emotion, the devotee Mahalasapati started dancing but seeing Baba's unbroken concentration, all the devotees were surprised. Tatya Patil, Baba's brother, carrying a lantern and Mahalasapati, carrying jewellery, walked towards the right. Look, how beautiful the ceremony is and the devotion is visible. To get a glimpse of this scene, it is difficult to describe it. There are scriptures, men and women, whether rich or beggar, all were gathered there, now Baba, slow speedThey started moving forward and the atmosphere of peace was visible all around. It seemed that the entire atmosphere was filled with joy and in this way the ceremony reached Chavadi and no one could see such a thing in future with their senses. You just have to help him and imagine a beautiful guest in front of your eyes. Such a person has to calm his heart and love. The decoration of Chavadi was also done in a very good way. There were good silver mirrors and well-placed lanterns and gas lamps. On reaching Chavadi, Tatya Party made Baba sit with the help of big and easy pillows. Then Baba was made to wear a nice aak and the devotees worshipped him in many ways. They made him wear a golden crown and put cream of flowers and roots around his neck. Then they applied a Vaishnavi Tilak of musk on the lantern and a dot in the starch and kept gazing at him for a long time. The cloth on his head was changed and he was kept lifting it because all the signs were that he should not throw it away. But Baba was omniscient and he let the devotees worship him according to their wish. After being adorned with this ornament, his beauty was indescribable. Nanasaheb the garland maker made a beautiful garland in which a big lamp was fixed in the centre. Babusaheb placed it in a beautiful silver plate and after giving money, worshipped it in a very good manner and put sandalwood on his hands and took a beedi. He was made to sit on a seat and Tatya Patil and all other devotees bowed their heads at his feet and bowed down to bow down. Then he sat down with the support of a pillow. Then the devotees started offering rice and fans from both sides. A normal chillum was prepared and given to Hatya Patil. He lit a chillum with great enthusiasm and gave it to Baba to smoke. After he smoked the chillum, it was then given to the devotee Mahashakti and later to all the devotees. Blessed is that lifeless chillum. How great is it, which first went round and round with the Kumar, felt pleasure in the sun, then did penance in the fire, as if it received many sanskars, only then did he get the good fortune of touching and kissing Baba. When all this work was over, then the devotees garlanded Baba with flowers and presented bouquets of fragrant flowers to him. So he was the incarnation of renunciation, he was less interested in those diamonds, Javra, Hatva flowers and such kind of partnerships, but due to the true love of the devotees, he had no objection in worshipping them according to their wish. In the end, the Baddi started playing in auspicious tone and Bapu Saheb loudly performed Baba's Aarti as per the rituals. After the Aarti was over, the devotees bowed to Baba and taking his permission, everyone started returning to their homes one by one. Then Tatya Patil gave him a chillum to smoke and applied rose water, perfume etc. and while bidding him farewell, he gave him a rose flower. Then Baba said lovingly, Tatya, take good care of me, if you want to go home then go, but sometimes come and see me at night. Then after giving an accepting answer, Tatya Patil went to his home from Chavadi. Then Baba sold many sheets and made his own bed and rested. Now let us take rest and while ending this chapter, we request the readers that they should definitely meditate on Shri Sain Baba and Chavadi ceremony every day before evening.
