सद्गुरु के लक्षण श्री शिवाय और श्री शपथ वेट कर और श्रीमती सेट पेट कर सती दान अध्याय आरंभ करने से पूर्व किसी ने हमदान पंत ने से प्रश्न किया कि साइन बाबा गुरु थे या सद्गुरु इसके उत्तर में हमदान पेंट सद्गुरु के लक्षण का निम्न प्रकार वर्णन करते हैं सद्गुरु के लक्षण जो भेद और वेदांत तथा छह शास्त्रों की शिक्षा प्रदान करने ब्रह्मा बसेरक मधुराम व्याख्यान देने में पारंगत हो तथा जो अपने स्वास्थ्य आवश्यक क्रियो पर नियंत्रण कर सहज की मुद्राएं लगाकर अपने शिष्यों को मंत्र उपदेश दे निश्चित अवधि में यह सूचित संख्या का जाप करने का आदेश दे और केवल अपने वाक्य चतुराई से ही उन्हें जीवन के अंतिम द्रव्य का दर्शन करता हो तथा जिसे स्वयं आत्म साक्षात ना हुआ हो वह सद्गुरु वही वर्णन जो अपने आचरण से अलौकिक कॉपर लौकिक सुखों में विराट की भावना का निर्माण कर हमें आत्मा अनुभूति का रस स्वादन कर दे तथा जो अपने शिष्यों को क्रियात्मक अप्रत्यक्ष ज्ञान आत्मा अनुभूति कर दे उसे ही सद्गुरु कहते हैं जो ईश्वर ही आत्म साक्षार्थ से वंचित है हुए भला अपने अनुयायियों को किस प्रकार अनुमति कर सकते हैं सद्गुरु स्वप्न में भी अपने शिष्य से कोई लाभ या सेवा शुरू की लालसा नहीं रखते वर्णन स्वयं उसकी सेवा करने को ही अद्भुत रखते हैं उन्हें या कभी भी मन नहीं होता कि मैं कोई महान हूं और मेरा शिष्य मुझसे पूछा है अभी तू उसे अपने ही शत्रु एवं ब्रह्म स्वरूप समाचार करते हैं सद्गुरु की मुख्य विशेषता यही है कि उसके हृदय में सदैव परम शांति विद्यमान रहती है वह कभी अस्थिर या अशांत नहीं होते और ना उन्हें अपने ज्ञान का ही ली मात्रा गर्व होता है उसके लिए राजा रंग स्वर्ग उपसर्ग सब एक ही समान है हेमदनपन कहते हैं कि मुझे गलत जन्मों के शुभ संस्कारों के परिणाम स्वरूप श्री साइन बाबा सदरी से सद्गुरु के चरणों की प्राप्ति तथा उसके कृपा पात्र बनने का सौभाग्य प्राप्त हुआ वह अपने युवावस्था में चिलम के अतिरिक्त कुछ संग्रह ना किया करते थे ना उसके बाल बच्चे तथा मित्र थे ना घबराए था और ना उन्हें किसी प्रकार का आश्रम प्राप्त था 18 वर्ष की अवस्था से ही उसका मनोवृत बड़ा विलक्षण था वह निर्धन होकर निर्जन स्थान पर विचरण करते एवं शब्द आत्मलिन रहते थे उसका कथन था कि मैं सदा भक्ति के परिधान रहता हूं जब वह शरीर में थे उसे समय भक्तों ने जो अनुभव किया उसके समाधि होने के पश्चात आज भी जो उसके सार्जेंट हो चुके हैं उसे उसी प्रकार के अनुभव होते हैं भक्तों को तो केवल इतना ही व्यस्त रहता है कि यदि वह अपने हृदय को भक्ति और विश्वास का दीपक बनाकर उसमें प्रेम की ज्योति प्रज्वलित कर जो ज्ञान ज्योति आत्मसाचार एवं प्रकाशित हो उठेगी कुमार के उदय होते ही भक्ति वैराग्य शांति और कल्याण रूपी संपत्ति सहज ही प्राप्ति हो जाती है जब तक किसी वस्तु के लिए प्रेम उत्पन्न नहीं होता तब तक उसे प्राप्त करने की भावना ही उत्पन्न नहीं होती इसलिए जहां व्याकुलता और प्रेम है वहां भगवान स्वयं प्रकट हो जाते हैं भाव में ही प्रेम अंतर निहित और वही मोक्ष का कारण भूत है यही कोई व्यक्ति कल प्रीत भाव से भी किसी सच्चे संत के चरण पकड़ ले तो वह निश्चित है कि वह अवश्य तर जाएगा ऐसी ही कथा नीचे दर्शी गई है श्री सेव्ड अक्कलकोट सोलापुर जिला के श्री सपाटे वकालत का अध्ययन कर रहे थे एक दिन उसके अपने सहपाठी श्री सेवत से भेंट हुई अन्य और भी विद्यार्थी वहां एकत्रित हुए और सब ने अपनी-अपने अध्ययन संबंधित योग्यता का परस्पर परीक्षण किया प्रश्न उत्तर में विदित हो गया की सबसे कम अध्यनश्री से वेट का है और वह परीक्षा में बैठने की अयोग्य है जब सब मित्रों ने मिलकर उसका उपवास किया तथा सेवक ने कहा कि यह अध्यपी मेरा अध्ययन अपूर्ण है तो भी मैं परीक्षा में अवश्य उत्तरी हो जाऊंगा मेरा साइन बाबा की सब कुछ सफलता देने वाले हैं श्री सॉफ्टवेयर को यह सुनकर आश्चर्य हुआ और उन्होंने श्री सेवक से पूछा कि यह साइन बाबा कौन है जिनका तुम इतना गुणगान कर रहे हो उन्होंने उत्तर दिया कि वह एक फकीर है जो शिरडी अहमदनगर के एक मस्जिद में निवास करते हैं हुए महान सद्गुरु से ऐसे अंत संत में हो सकती है परंतु वह उनको अद्वितीय है जब तक पूर्ण जन्म के शुभ संस्कार संचित ना हो तब तक उसमें भेद होना दुर्लभ है मेरी तो उन पर पूर्ण श्रद्धा है उसके श्रीमुख से निकले वचन का भी सत्य नहीं होते उन्होंने ही मुझे विश्वास दिलाया कि मैं अगले वर्ष परीक्षा में अवश्य उतरन हो जाऊंगा मेरा भी अटल विश्वास है कि मैं उसके कृपा से परीक्षा में अवश्य ही सफलता पाऊंगा श्री सत्य को अपने मित्र के ऐसे विश्वास पर हंसी आई और साथ ही श्री साइन बाबा का भी उन्होंने उपवास किया भविष्य में जब सेफ्टी दोनों परीक्षा में उत्तीर्ण हो गए तब सेफ्टी को यह ज्ञान यह जानकर बड़ा आश्चर्य हुआ श्री सेपरेट श्री सेपरेट परीक्षा में उत्तीर्ण होने के पश्चात अक्कलकोट में रहने लगे और वहीं उन्होंने अपने वकालत प्रारंभ कर दी 10 वर्ष के पश्चात सन 1913 में उन्होंने इकलौते पुत्र के गले की बीमारी से मृत्यु हो गए जिससे उनका हृदय विचलित होता मानसिक शांति प्राप्त करने हेतु उन्होंने पंढरपुर गाना पूर्व और अन्य तीर्थ स्थान की यात्रा की परंतु उसकी अशांति पर्वत ही बनी रही उन्होंने वेदांत का भी श्रवण किया परंतु वह भी व्यर्थ ही सिद्ध हुआ अचानक उन्हें सीवेट के वचनों तथा श्री साइन बाबा के प्रतीत उसके विश्वास की स्मृति आई और उन्होंने विचार किया कि मुझे भी शिरडी आकर बाबा के दर्शन करना चाहिए वह अपने छोटे भाई पंडित राव के साथ शिरडी आए बाबा के दर्शन कर उन्हें बड़ी प्रसन्नता हुई तब उन्होंने समीप जाकर नमस्कार करके शुद्ध भावना से श्रीफल भेंट किया तो बाबा तुरंत क्रोधित होते और बोले कि यहां से निकल जाओ सॉफ्टवेयर कर सर झुक गया और वह कुछ हटकर पीछे बैठ गए हुए यह जान ना चाहते थे कि किस प्रकार उसके समक्ष उपस्थित होना चाहिए किसी ने उन्हें बाला सेमी का नाम सुझाव दिया सॉफ्टवेयर कर उसके पास गए और उसने सहायता करने की प्रार्थना करने लगी तब वह दोनों बाबा का एक चित्र माल लेकर मस्जिद को आए बाला सिमी ने अपने हाथ में चित्र लेकर बाबा के हाथ में दे दिया और पूछा कि यह किसका चित्र है बाबा ने सॉफ्टवेयर की ओर संकेत कर कहा कि यह तो मेरे यार का है यह कहकर वह हंसने लगे और साथ ही सब भक्त मंडली में हंसने लगे बाबा सिमी के संकेत पर जब सत्य को उन्हें प्रणाम करने लगे तो वह पुणे चिल्ला पड़े की बाबा निकले सॉफ्टवेयर के समझ में नहीं आता था कि वह क्या कर रहे हैं तब वह दोनों हाथ जोड़कर प्रार्थना करते हुए बाबा के सामने बैठ गए परंतु बाबा ने उन्हें पूरा थी बाहर निकालने की आज्ञा दी वे दोनों बहुत ही निराशा हुई और उनकी आज्ञा खून टाल सकता था आखिर सपना से वापस चले आए उन्होंने मन ही मां प्रार्थना की की है साइन मैं आपसे दया की भिक्षा मांगता हूं कम से कम इतना ही आश्वासन दे दीजिए कि मुझे भविष्य में कभी ना कभी आपके श्री दर्शन की अनुमति मिलेगी श्रीमती सब टेकर 1 वर्ष बीत गए फिर भी उसके मन में शांति ना आए हुए कानपुर गए जहां उनके मन की अशांति और अधिक बढ़ गई आता हुए मालेगांव विश्राम के लिए पहुंचे और वहां से ही काशी जाने का निश्चय किया प्रस्थान करने के दो दिन पूर्व उसकी पत्नी को स्वप्न हुआ कि वह स्वप्न में एक गागर से लाकर सा कुएं पर जल भरने जा रहे हैं वहां नीम के नीचे एक फकीर बैठा है सर पर एक कपड़ा बंधा हुआ फ़कीर उसके पास आकर रहने लगा कि मेरे प्रिय बच्ची तुम क्यों व्यर्थ कष्ट उठा रही हो मैं तुम्हारे गागर निर्मल जल से भर देता हूं तब फकीर के भाई से वह खाली गागर लेकर ही दौड़ आई फकीर भी उनके पीछे-पीछे आ गया इतने में ही घबराहट में उनकी निद्रा भंग हो गई और उसने आंखें खोल दी या स्वप्न उसने अपने पति को सुनाया उन्होंने इसे एक शुभ शगुन जाना और हुए दोनों शिर्डी को रवाना हो गए जब वह मस्जिद पहुंचे तो बाबा वहां उपस्थित न थे वह लेवाड़ी भाग गए हुए थे उनके लौटने की प्रतीक्षा में हुए वहीं बैठे रहे तब बाबा लाट है तो उनके देखकर उनकी पत्नी को बड़ा आश्चर्य हुआ क्योंकि स्वप्न में इस फकीर के उसने दर्शन किए थे उसकी आकृति बाबा से बिल्कुल मिलती-जुलती थी उसने आती आदर सहित बाबा को प्रणाम किया और उन वहीं बैठे-बैठे उन्हें नेरने लगी जिसका विनम्र स्वभाव देखकर बाबा अत्यंत प्रसन्न हो गए अपने पद्धति के अनुसार हुए एक तीसरे व्यक्ति को अपने अनोखे ढंग से एक कहानी सुनाने लगे मेरे हाथ पर शरीर तथा कमर में बहुत दिनों से दर्द हुआ करता था मैंने अनेक उपचार के परंतु मुझे कोई लाभ न पहुंच माय औषधीय से उबर उठा क्योंकि मुझे उसे कोई लाभ न हो रहा था परंतु आप मुझे बड़ा चंबा हो रहा है कि मेरा समस्त पीड़ाएं एकदम ही जाती रही यद्यपि किसी का किसी का नाम नहीं लिया गया था परंतु यह चर्चा स्वयं श्रीमती सॉफ्टवेयर की थी उसकी कीड़ा जैसा बाबा ने अभी कहा सर्वप्रथम मिट गया और वह अत्यंत प्रसन्न हो गए संपत्ति दान तब श्री सॉफ्टवेयर दर्शन के लिए आगे बढ़े परंतु उसका पूर्व वचनों से ही स्वागत हुआ कि बाहर निकल जाओ इस बारे में बहुत दरिया और नम्रता धारण करके आए थे उन्होंने कहा कि पिछले कम के कारण ही बाबा मुझे आप प्रसन्न है और उन्होंने अपना चित्र सुधारने का और बाबा से एकांत में भेंट करने अपने पीछे कर्मों की क्षमा मांगने का निश्चय किया उन्होंने वैसा ही किया भी और अब जब उन्होंने अपना मस्तक उनके श्री चरणों पर रखा तो बाबा ने उसे आशीर्वाद दिया तभी सॉफ्टवेयर उसके चरण दबाते हुए बोले कि हुए इतने में एक घरेलू आए और बाबा की कम दबाए ने लगे तब वह सदैव की भांति एक बुनाई की कहानी सुनाने लग जब उन्होंने उसके जीवन के अनेक परिवर्तन तथा उसके इकलौते पुत्र की मृत्यु का हाल सुनाया तो सैट को अत्यंत आश्चर्य हुआ कि जो कथा वह सुनने आ रहे थे वह तो मेरे ही है उन्हें बड़ा संभव हुआ कि उनको मेरे जीवन के प्रत्येक बात का पता कैसे चल गया आप उन्हें विदित हो गया कि बाबा अंतर्यामी है उसके हृदय का पूरा-पूरा रहस्य जानते हैं या विचार उसके मन में आया ही था कि गेवड़े ने वर्तमान चालू रखते हुए बाबा साहब को और संकेत कर कर कहने लग कि वह भला आदमी मुझ पर दोसर ओपन करता है कि मैं ने ही उसके पुत्र को मार डाला है क्या मैं लोगों को बच्चों को प्राण हर करता हूं फिर यह वहां से मस्जिद में आकर आप क्यों ठीक पुकार मचाते हैं अब मैं एक काम करूंगा अब मैं उसकी बालक को फिर से इसकी पत्नी के गर्भ में ला दूंगा ऐसा कह कर बाबा ने अपना वारहास्ट शास्त्री के सिर पर रख और उसे सांत्वना देते हुए कहा कि यह चरण अधिक पुराना टन तथा पवित्र है अब तुम चिंता से मुक्त होकर मुझ पर पूरा विश्वास करो तभी तुम्हें अपने प्रिय की प्राप्ति हो जाएगी सॉफ्टवेयर का हृदय गदगद होता तब आंसू धारा से उसके चरण धोकर हुए अपने निवास स्थान पर लौट आए और फिर पूजन की तैयारी करने विद्या आदि लेकर हुए साप्ताहिक मस्जिद में आए हुए इसी प्रकार नित्य निर्मित चढ़ते और बाबा से प्रसाद ग्रहण करते रहे मस्जिद में अपार भीड़ होते हुए भी वह जाकर उन्हें बार-बार नमस्कार करते थे एक दिन एक दूसरे से सर टकराते देख बाबा ने उसे कहा कि प्रेम तथा श्रद्धा द्वारा किया हुआ एक नमस्कार ही मुझे पर्याप्त है इस रात्रि कौन है चौड़ी का उत्सव देखने आप ही सौभाग्य प्राप्त हुआ और उन्हें बाबा ने पूरा नाम के रूप में दर्शन किए जब यह दूसरे दिन वहां से प्रस्थान करने लगे तो उन्होंने विचार किया कि पहले दक्षिण में बाबा को ₹1 दूंगा यदि उन्होंने और मांगे तो आशीर्वाद करने के बजे एक रुपया और पेट में चढ़ा दूंगा फिर भी यात्रा के लिए शेष द्रव्य राशि प्राप्त होगी जब उन्होंने मस्जिद जाकर बाबा को ₹1 दक्षिण दी तो बाबा ने भी उनके इच्छा जानकर ₹1 उनसे और मांगे जब सॉफ्टवेयर में उन्हें रहस्य देकर दिया तो बाबा ने भी उन्हें आशीर्वाद देकर कहा कि यह सिर्फ फल ले जाओ और इसे अपनी पत्नी की गोद में रखकर निश्चित होकर घर जो उन्होंने वैसा ही किया और 1 वर्ष के पश्चात उन्हें पुत्र प्राप्त हुआ 8 मार्च का शिशु लेकर हुआ दंपती फिर शिर्डी को आए और बाबा के चरणों पर बाला के को रखकर फिर एक प्रकार प्रार्थना करने वालों की श्री साईनाथ आपके रन हम किस प्रकार चुका सकेंगे आपके श्री चरणों में हमारा बारंबार प्रणाम है हम दोनों पर आप सदैव कृपा करते रहेंगे क्योंकि हमारे मन में सोते जाते हर समय न जाने क्या क्या संकल्प विकल्प उठा करते हैं आपके भजन में ही हमारा मन लीन हो जाए ऐसा आशीर्वाद दीजिए उसका पुत्र का नाम मुरलीधर रखा गया बाद में उनके दो पुत्र भास्कर राव दिनकर और उत्पन्न हुए इस प्रकार साहब के दंपति को अनुभव हो गया कि बाबा के वचन कभी सत्य और अपूर्ण नहीं होते श्री Characteristics of a Sadguru Before starting the chapter of Shri Shivaay and Shri Shapath Wait Kar and Shrimati Set Pet Kar Sati Daan, someone asked Hamdan Pant whether Sain Baba was a Guru or a Sadguru. In reply to this, Hamdan Pant describes the characteristics of a Sadguru as follows: Characteristics of a Sadguru who is proficient in imparting the teachings of Bhed and Vedanta and the six scriptures, Brahma Baserak Madhuram lectures, and who, by controlling his health and essential activities, by doing the mudras of Sahaj, gives his disciples mantras and preaches them, orders them to recite the prescribed number of mantras in a fixed period, and only by his cleverness in his sentences, makes them see the ultimate matter of life, and who himself has not got self-realization, that Sadguru is the one who, by his conduct, creates a sense of the vastness in the supernatural copper worldly pleasures, and makes us taste the essence of self-realization, and who gives practical indirect knowledge of self-realization to his disciples, he is called a Sadguru, when even God is deprived of self-realization, how can he allow his followers to do so? Even in dreams, a Sadguru starts any benefit or service from his disciples. He does not desire to describe himself and considers his service to be amazing. He never feels that I am some great person and my disciple has asked me, now you call him your own enemy and Brahma form. The main characteristic of Sadguru is that there is always supreme peace in his heart. He is never unstable or restless and he is not even a bit proud of his knowledge. For him, king, color, heaven, prefix, all are the same. Hemdanpan says that as a result of the good sanskars of wrong births, I got the good fortune of attaining the feet of Sadguru and becoming the recipient of his grace from Shri Sain Baba Sadari. In his youth, he used to collect nothing except chillum. He did not have children or friends. He was not scared and did not get any kind of ashram. His mental attitude was very unique from the age of 18. Being poor, he used to roam in deserted places and remained absorbed in the word of self. He used to say that I am always dressed in devotion. When he was in the body, whatever the devotees experienced at that time, after his samadhi, even today, those who have become his followers have the same kind of experience. The saint is only busy in this much that if he makes his heart a lamp of devotion and faith and kindles the flame of love in it, the light of knowledge which will be self-realized and illuminated, then as soon as the light of knowledge rises, the wealth of devotion, detachment, peace and well-being is easily attained. Unless love for a thing is born, the feeling of attaining it does not arise. Therefore, where there is restlessness and love, there God himself appears. Love lies in the feeling itself and that is the reason of salvation. If any person holds the feet of a true saint even with love, then it is certain that he will certainly be saved. A similar story is shown below. Shri Sevd, Mr. Sapate of Akkalkot, Solapur district was studying law. One day he met his classmate Shri Sevt. Other students also gathered there and all of them mutually tested their respective abilities related to studies. It was known in the questions and answers that Shri Sevt had the lowest studies and he was ineligible to sit in the examination. When all the friends together fasted for him and Sevt said that this teacher is my Even if my studies are incomplete, I will definitely pass the exam. My Sain Baba is the one who will give me success in everything. Shri Sain Baba was surprised to hear this and he asked Shri Sevak that who is this Sain Baba, whom you are praising so much. He replied that he is a fakir who lives in a mosque in Shirdi Ahmednagar. Such a great saint can be a saint but he is unique in him. Unless the good sanskars of the whole life are accumulated, it is rare to have any difference in him. I have complete faith in him. Even the words that come out of his mouth do not come true. He assured me that I will definitely pass the exam next year. I also have firm faith that I will definitely succeed in the exam with his grace. Shri Sain laughed at such faith of his friend and at the same time he also fasted for Shri Sain Baba. In the future, when Sain Baba passed both the exams, Sain Baba was very surprised to know this. After passing the exam, Shri Separate started living in Akkalkot and started his law practice there. After 10 years, in the year 1913, he started his only law practice. His son died of a throat disease which disturbed his heart. To get peace of mind, he travelled to Pandharpur, Ganpati and other holy places but his unrest persisted. He listened to Vedanta also but that also proved futile. Suddenly he remembered the words of Sivet and his faith in Shri Sain Baba and he thought that he should also come to Shirdi and have darshan of Baba. He came to Shirdi with his younger brother Pandit Rao. He was very happy to have darshan of Baba. He went near Baba and offered him a coconut with pure feelings. Baba immediately became angry and said, get out of here. He bowed his head and sat a little behind. He did not want to know how he should appear before him. Someone suggested him the name of Balasaheb. He went to him and he offered help.When Baba started praying, both of them came to the mosque with a picture of Baba. Bala Simi took the picture in his hand and gave it to Baba and asked whose picture is this. Baba pointed towards Baba and said that this is of my friend. Saying this, he started laughing and all the devotees started laughing. When Baba started bowing to him on the signal of Baba Simi, he shouted that Baba has come out. Baba could not understand what he was doing. Then both of them sat in front of Baba with folded hands and praying, but Baba ordered them to come out of the mosque. Both of them were very disappointed and could not ignore his order. Finally they came back from the mosque. They prayed in their mind that Baba, I beg for your mercy. At least give me this assurance that I will get permission to have your darshan sometime in the future. One year passed by but still there was no peace in his mind. He went to Kanpur where the restlessness of his mind increased further. While coming back, he reached Malegaon for rest and from there decided to go to Kashi. Two days before departure, his wife had a dream that he was going to a well to fill water with a pitcher. There was a Fakir sitting under a Neem tree. The Fakir with a cloth tied on his head came to her and said, “My dear child, why are you suffering in vain? I will fill your pitcher with pure water.” Then she ran with the empty pitcher from the Fakir’s brother. The Fakir also followed them. In the meantime, her sleep was disturbed in nervousness and she opened her eyes. She narrated this dream to her husband. He considered it a good omen and both of them left for Shirdi. When they reached the mosque, Baba was not present there. He had fled to Lewadi. They sat there waiting for him to return. Then Baba’s wife was very surprised to see him because she had seen this Fakir in her dream. His appearance was exactly similar to Baba. She bowed to Baba with respect and started to see him while sitting there. Seeing his humble nature, Baba became very happy. According to his method, he started narrating a story to a third person in his unique way. And I used to have pain in my waist for a long time. I tried many treatments but I could not get any benefit. I got cured with medicines because I was not getting any benefit from it. But I am very happy that all my pains went away suddenly. Although no one's name was taken, but this discussion was about Mrs. Software herself. Her worm, as Baba had just said, was removed first and he became very happy. After donating the property, Mr. Software proceeded for Darshan but he was welcomed with the same words as before that he should go out. He had come with great humility and generosity in this regard. He said that Baba is pleased with me because of my past deeds. He decided to improve his image and meet Baba in private and ask for forgiveness for his past deeds. He did the same and now when he placed his head on his feet, Baba blessed him. Then Mr. Software, while pressing his feet, said that just then a householder came and started pressing Baba's feet. Then as always, he started telling the story of a weaver. When he told about the many changes in her life and the death of her only son, then Mr. Software was very happy. He was surprised that the story he was coming to hear was mine. He thought it was very surprising that how did he come to know every detail of my life. He came to know that Baba is omniscient and knows the complete secret of his heart. This thought had just come to his mind that Gevade, while continuing the story, gestured Baba Saheb and said that that good man is blaming me that I have killed his son.
