क्षुप विविश खनीनेत्र करन्धम अवीक्षित तथा मरूत्तके चरित्र के भाग 1 

मारकंडे जी कहते हैं राजा खनित्र के पुत्र स्वरूप ने भी राज पाने के बाद पिता की ही भांति धरमपूर्वक प्राजजनों का पालन किया हुए दानशील तथा अनेक यज्ञों के अनुष्ठान करने वाले थे उन्होंने व्यवहार आदि के मार्ग में शत्रु और मित्र दोनों के प्रति समान भाव रखा एक दिन महाराज स्वरूप अपने राज सिंहासन पर बैठे थे उसे समय सूत्रों एवं बंदी जनों ने कहा महाराज पूर्व काल में जैसे स्वरूप नाम के राजा हुए थे वैसे ही आप भी हैं प्राचीन राजा स्वरूप ब्रह्मा जी के पुत्र थे उनका चरित्र जैसा था वैसा ही वर्तमान महाराज का भी है पहले के महाराज स्वरूप गांव और ब्राह्मणों से कर नहीं लेते थे तथा उन महात्मा ने प्रजा से प्राप्त हुए छठे भाग के द्वारा इस पृथ्वी पर आने की यज्ञ किए थे राजा बोले मेरा जैसा कौन मनुष्य हूं महात्मा राजाओं का पूर्ण रूप से अनुसरण कर सकेगा तथा अपी उत्तम आचरण वाले पुरुषों के समान कार्य करने के लिए उद्योग आवश्यक करना चाहिए अतः इस विषय में जो प्रतिज्ञा करता हूं उसे सुनो मैं महाराज स्वरूप के चरित्र का अनुसरण करूंगा तथा खेती का अभाव होने या उसका अभाव दूर होने पर तीन-तीन यज्ञों का अनुष्ठान करूंगा मेरी या प्रतिज्ञा संपूर्ण भूमंडल के लिए है आज के पहले गांव और ब्राह्मणों ने जो राज कर दिया है वह सब उन्हीं की सेवा में लौटा दूंगा ऐसी प्रतिज्ञा करके राजा स्वरूप ने सब कुछ वैसा ही किया वह खेती मेरी जाने पर तीन-तीन यज्ञों का अनुष्ठान करते थे पहले गांव ब्राह्मणों ने पूर्व में राजाओं का जितना कर दिया था उतना ही धन उन्होंने उन्हें लौटा दिया उनकी पत्नी प्रथम के 11 से वीर नमक उत्तम पुत्र हुआ उसे अपने प्रताप और पराक्रम से पृथ्वी के समस्त राजाओं को अपने वश में कर लिया था विद भर राजकुमारी नंदिनी उसकी प्रियतम पत्नी थी जिनके गर्व से उसके ब्रिज नामक पुत्र को जन्म दिया ब्रिज भी महान बलवान राजा हुआ उनके शासनकाल में आबादी अधिक हो जाने से समुचित पृथ्वी मनुष्यों से भर गई थी समय पर वर्षा होती पृथ्वी पर खेती हरा करती थी खेती में अच्छे दाने लगता और दोनों में पूर्ण रस भरे रहते थे व्हीरियाज मनुष्यों के लिए पोस्ट कारक होते हैं किंतु वह पोस्ट पैदा करने वाली नहीं होती थी लोगों के पास जो धन का संग्रह होता है वह उनके मौत का कारण नहीं बनता था बिसरप के प्रताप से शत्रु सदा भयभीत रहते थे प्रजा स्वास्थ्य थी और शुरुआत वर्ग भली भांति पूजिताइट हो प्रसन्नता प्राप्त करता था राजा वृषभ बहुत से यज्ञों का अनुष्ठान तथा पृथ्वी का भली भांति पालन करके संग्राम में मृत्यु प्रकार यहां से इंद्रलोक में चला गया वृषभ का पुत्र खाली नेत्र हुआ जो महा बलवान और पराक्रमी था उनके यज्ञों में गंधर्व गांड विस्तृत हो यहां गाथा गया करते थे खनित्र के समान दूसरा राजा इस पृथ्वी पर नहीं होगा क्योंकि उन्होंने 10000 यज्ञ पूर्ण करके समुद्र सहित यह सारी पृथ्वी दान कर दी थी महात्मा ब्राह्मणों को समूची पृथ्वी का दान दे उन्होंने तपस्या से द्रव संघार किया और उसके द्वारा पृथ्वी को छुड़ाया राजा खनिद्रा ने 676767 यज्ञ किए थे और सब में प्रचुर दक्षिणा दी थी राजाओं को कोई पुत्र नहीं था इसलिए वह पाप नाचे गोमती के तट पर गए और वहां मां वाणी और शरीर को संयम में रखकर घोर तपस्या करने लगे संतान के लिए उन्होंने इंद्र का स्तनवा किया उनके स्रोत तपस्या और भक्ति से संतुष्ट होकर इंद्र ने कहा राजन मैं तुझ पर बहुत प्रसन्न हो कोई वर मांगो राजा बोल डी अक्षर मुझे कोई पुत्र नहीं है अतः आपकी कृपा से मुझे पुत्र प्राप्त हो वह पुत्र समस्त शास्त्रधारियों में श्रेष्ठ अक्षय ऐश्वर्या से युक्त धर्म पालक तथा धाम यज्ञ हो इंद्र ने एवं वास्तु कहकर आशीर्वाद दिया राजा का मनोरथ पूर्ण हो गया अब हुए प्रजा का पालन करने के लिए अपने नगर में आए वहां हुए विधि पूर्वक यज्ञ का अनुष्ठान तथा धरमपूर्वक प्रजा का पालन करने लगे उसे समय इंद्र की कृपा से उन्हें एक पुत्र हुआ जिनका नाम उनके पिता ने बलसारा रखा फिर राजा ने पुत्र को संपूर्ण अस्त्र शस्त्रों की शिक्षा दी पिता के मरने के बाद जब बलवंत राज सिंहासन पर आसीन हुआ तब उन्होंने पृथ्वी के संपूर्ण राजाओं को अपने वास में कर लिया परंतु बहुत से मा पराक्रमी राजा जो सबके सब प्रकार के साधन और धन से संपन्न थे एक साथ मिल आए और उन्होंने राजा बलवास को उसकी राजधानी में ही घेर लिया नगर पर घेरा पड़ा जानने से राजा बल सुभाष बड़ा क्रोधित हुआ परंतु उनका खजाना बहुत थोड़ा रह गया था इसलिए सैनिक बल्कि कमी हो जाने से वह अत्यंत विकल्प हो गए जब उन्हें और कोई शरण नहीं दिखाई दिए तब हुए आहत हो दोनों हाथ मुंह के आगे करके जोर-जोर से सांस लेने लगे फिर तो उनके हाथ की उंगलियों के चित्र से मुक्ति वायु से प्रेरित हो सैकड़ो योद्धा रात हाथी और घोड़े निकलने लगे क्षण भर में राजा का सारा नगर बहुत बड़ी सेवा से भर गया तब उसे विशाल सेवा के साथ नगर से बाहर निकाल कर उन्होंने उन शत्रु राजाओं को परास्त किया और सबको अपने अधीन करके उन पर कर लगा दिय कर का दमन करने हाथों पकाने उसे उन्होंने शत्रुओं का डा करने वाली सी उत्पन्न की थी इसलिए वह राजा मालपुरा कम था कहने लगे कर्मधारी धर्मात्मा सब प्राणियों के मित्र तथा तीनों लोकों में विख्यात थे जब राजा संकट में पड़े थे तब साक्षात उनके धर्म ने उनके पास पहुंचकर शत्रु नाशक सेवा प्रदान की थी और फिर स्वयं ही उसे अदृश्य कर दिया राजा वीर्य चंद्र की सुंदरी कन्या वीराने जो उत्तम व्रत का पालन करने वाली थी स्वयंवर में महाराज कर्माध्मा का वर्णन किया था उनके कर्म से महाराज ने आश्रित नामक पुत्र उत्पन्न किया उसके इस नाम का प्रश्न सुनो पुत्र उत्पन्न होने पर राजा कर्मधा ने उनके गृह आदि के विषय में ज्योतिषियों से पूछा तब ज्योतिषियों ने कहा महाराज आपका पुत्र उत्तम मुहुर्त श्रेष्ठ नक्षत्र और शुभ लग्न में उत्पन्न हुआ है अतः यह महा पराक्रमी परम सौभाग्यवान तथा अधिक बलशाली होगा बृहस्पति और शुक्र सातवें स्थान में तथा चंद्रमा चौथे स्थान में रहकर इस बालक को देखते हैं 11वें स्थान में स्थित बुद्ध भी इसको देखते हैं सूर्य मंडल और शनिचर की इस पर दृष्टि नहीं है अतः यह सब प्रकार की संपत्तियों से युक्त होगा ज्योतिषियों की बात सुनकर राजा करधन के मन में बड़ी प्रसन्नता हुई हुए बोले इस बृहस्पति और बुद्ध देखते हैं और सूर्य शनिचर एवं मंडल से या अपरिचित सृष्टि है इसलिए इसका नाम अभिलक्षित होगा करना धाम के पुत्र अभिक्षित वेदांतों के पारायण विद्यमान हुए उन्होंने मुनिवर कारण के पुत्र से संपूर्ण अस्त्र विद्या की शिक्षा ग्रहण की वह रूप में अश्वनी कुमार बुद्धि में बृहस्पति क्रांति में चंद्रमा तेज में सूर्य धारी हमेशा मुद्रा और क्षमता में पृथ्वी के समान थे वीरता में तो उनके सामान्य करने वाला कोई था ही नहीं एक समय की बात है हुए वैदिक के राजा विशाल की कन्या वैशाली को प्राप्त करने के लिए उनके स्वयंवर में गए वह सुंदर दांतों वाली सुंदर सी समस्त राजाओं की अपेक्षा करके चली जा रही थी इतने में ही अब लिखित में उसे बलपूर्वक पकड़ लिया उन्हें अपने बाल का बहुत अभिमान था उनके इस कार्य से अन्य समस्त राजाओं का जो बहुत बड़ी संख्या में एकत्र थे अपमान हुआ आता हुए चित्र होकर एक दूसरे से कहने लगे अनेक बलशाली राजाओं के होते हुए किसी एक के द्वारा नारी का अपहरण हो और आप लोग उसे क्षमा कर दें तो यह अधिकार देने योग्य बात है छतरियां वह है जो दुष्ट पुरुषों से सटे जाने वाले रक्षा करें उनकी छाती ना होने दे जो ऐसा नहीं करते हुए लोग इस नाम को व्यर्थ ही धारण करते हैं संसार में कौन मनुष्य मृत्यु से नहीं डरता किंतु युद्ध न करने से भी कौन अमर रह गया है यह विचार कर शास्त्रधारी क्षत्रियों को पुरुषार्थ का त्याग नहीं करना चाहिए यह सुनकर सब राजा समर्थ में भर गए और परस्त सलाह करके सभी हथियार ले उठ खड़े हुए कुछ रातों पर जा बैठे कुछ हाथियों और घोड़े पर सवार हुए तथा दूसरे कितने ही राजा कुपित हो पैदल ही अभिक्षित से लोहा लेने को जा पहुंचे अभिक्षित अकेले थे उनके विरोध में बहुत से राजा और राजकुमार थे उनमें बड़ा भयंकर संग्राम हुआ तलवार शक्ति गधा और धनुष बाण के लिए हुआ समस्त राजा अभिक्षित पर प्रहार करने लगे तथा राजकुमार अभिक्षित भी अकेले ही उन सभी राजाओं से भिड़ गए और सैकड़ो बानो से मारकर उन्हें घायल करने लगे अभिक्षित ने किसी की बा काट डाली किसी का गर्दन उड़ा दिया किसी की छाती छेद डाली और किसी के वक्त में प्रहार किया शत्रुओं के आते हुए बालों को बाद मार कर दो टुकड़े कर देते थे किसी की तलवार काट देते और किसी का धनुष खंडित कर देते थे कोई रात को मार अपना कवच कट जाने के कारण पलायन कर गया दूसरे अपेक्षित के वाहनों से घायल होकर पैदल हिरण भूमि से भाग गया इस प्रकार जब राजाओं की सारी मंडली व्याकुल हो गई तब 700 वीर्य करने का निश्चय करके युद्ध के लिए छठ गए उन सबको अपने उत्तम कुल युवावस्था तथा शौर्य की लाज रखती थी जब सारी सी परास्त होकर भागने लगे तब वह ही 700 राजा एक साथ मिलकर अपेक्षित से युद्ध करने लगे अभिक्षित अत्यंत क्रुद्ध में भरकर धर्म युद्ध के नियम से लड़ने लगे उन्होंने उन सब के हथियारों और कवचों को काट गिरा है तब उन राजाओं ने धर्म से विमुख विचारों और से अभिक्षित को घेर लिया और सब ओर से उन्हें चारों बड़ों से विधि कर डाले बहुत से प्रहारों से पीड़ा हो वह अत्यंत व्याकुल होते और अत्यंत बेहाल होकर पृथ्वी पर गिर पड़े इस अवस्था में उन सब ने मिलकर धरमपूर्वक उन्हें बांध लिया और राजा विशाल के साथ बेदी नगर में प्रवेश किया तट अंतर राजा कर धनम् उनकी पत्नी वीर तथा अन्य राजाओं ने अभिक्षित के बंदे जाने का समाचार सुना कुछ लोगों ने कारदानम से कहा महाराज हुए सभी राजावत करने की योग्य है उन्होंने अधिक संख्या में सम्मिलित होकर अकेले राजकुमार को धर्म पूर्वक बांधा है दूसरे बोले आप चुपचाप बैठे हुए क्यों हो सीख रही सी तैयार कीजिए दुष्ट विशाल को तथा वहां आए हुए अन्य समस्त राजाओं को भी बांध लीजिए उन सब की यह बात सुनकर वीर पुत्र वीर ने जो वीर वंश में उत्पन्न एवं वीर पत्नी की पत्नी थी हर्ष में भरकर कहा राजा हूं मेरे पुत्र ने समस्त राजाओं को जीतकर जो बलपूर्वक ज्ञान को अपने अधिकार में कर लिया यह ठीक ही किया है इसके लिए मन मे चिंता करने की आवश्यकता नहीं है उनका युद्ध में बंधी होकर प्रशंसा की ही बात है अब तुम लोगों की मस्तक पर भी अस्त्र शस्त्रों के गिरने का समय आ पहुंचा है युद्ध के लिए शीघ्रता करो अपने-अपने रातों पर सवार हो जो हाथी घोड़े और साथियों को भी जल्दी तैयार करो विलंब नहीं होना चाहिए जो सबको परास्त करके शोभा पता है वही और है जैसा सूर्य अंधकार को दूर करके प्रकाशित होता है उसी प्रकार शूरवीर शत्रुओं को हराकर तेजस्वी होता है इस प्रकार पत्नी ने उत्सर्जित करने पर राजा गंधर्व के पुत्र के शत्रुओं का वध करने के लिए सेवा का तैयार होने की आज्ञा थी तदांतर उनका विशाल और उनके साथियों के साथ घोर युद्ध हुआ तीन दिन तक युद्ध होने के पश्चात विशाल और उनके सहायक राजाओं का मॉडल जब प्रज्ञा पराजित हो गए तब राजा विशाल हाथ में अर्थ लेकर महाराज करधन्म के पास के आए उन्होंने बड़े प्रेम से कार्ड नाम का पूजा किया उनका पुत्र अभिक्षित बंधन से युक्त कर दिया गया राजा ने एक रात वहां बड़े सुख से व्यथित की दूसरे दिन राजा विशाल अपनी कन्या को साथ लेकर महाराज करधनाम के पास उपस्थित हुए उसे समय अभिजीत ने अपने पिता के सामने ही कहा मैं इसको तथा दूसरी किसी युक्ति को भी आप नहीं ग्रहण करूंगा क्योंकि इसके देखते-देखते शत्रुओं द्वारा युद्ध में परास्त हो गया अब आप किसी और के साथ इसका विवाह कर दें अथवा यह उसे पुरुष का वर्णन करें जिसका व्यास और पराक्रम अखंड हो तथा इसके शत्रुओं के हाथ से अपमानित न होना पड़े हो पुरुष सफल होने के कारण स्वतंत्र होता है और स्त्री अवल होने के कारण सदा परतंत्र रहती है परंतु जहां पुरुष भी दूसरे के परतंत्र हो गया वहां उसमें मनुष्यता ही क्या रह गई जब इसके सामने ही राजाओं ने मुझे पृथ्वी पर गिरा दिया तब अब मैं इसे अपना मुंह कैसे दिखाऊंगा अभिजीत के ऐसे करने पर राजा विशाल ने अपनी पुत्री से कहा बेटी इन महात्मा की बात तुमने सुनी है ना सुबह जिसने में तुम्हारी रुचि हो ऐसी किसी दूसरे पुरुष को पति रूप में वर्णन करो अथवा हम जिसे तुम्हें दे दे उसी का तुम आदर करो

Markande says that after ascending the throne, King Khanitra's son Swarup, like his father, followed the people religiously, was charitable and performed numerous yagyas. He treated both friends and enemies alike in his dealings. One day, as King Swarup sat on his throne, the Sutras and the prisoners said, "You are just like the kings named Swarup in ancient times. The ancient King Swarup was the son of Lord Brahma. His character was similar to that of the present King. The former King Swarup did not collect taxes from villagers and Brahmins. That great man performed yagyas to come to this earth with the sixth share of the income he received from his people." The king said, "Who is a man like me who can fully emulate the great kings? You must strive to work like men of noble conduct." Therefore, listen to this promise I make. I will follow the character of King Swarup. And when there is a shortage of crops or the shortage is removed, I will give three-three thousand rupees to each farmer. I will perform yagnas, this is my pledge for the entire world. I will return to them all the wealth that the village and Brahmins had paid in taxes to them. Having made this promise, King Swarup did just that. He used to perform three yagnas every year when he went to farm. He returned to the kings the same amount of wealth that the village and Brahmins had paid in taxes to them in the past. His wife Pratham had a son named Veer, who was a great son. With his valor and bravery, he subdued all the kings of the earth. Princess Nandini of the Vedbhar was his beloved wife, whose pride gave birth to a son named Brij. Brij also became a great and powerful king. During his reign, due to the increasing population, the entire earth was filled with people. Timely rainfall brought good crops to the land, and crops grew richly, and both were full of fruits. Viryas are harmful for humans, but they are not harmful. The wealth accumulated by people does not cause their death. Enemies were always afraid of Bisarpa's power, the people were healthy, and the lower class was well-wishing and happy. King Vrishabh After performing many yagnas and taking good care of the earth, he died in the battle and went to Indralok from here. The son of Vrishabha was Khalee Netra who was very strong and mighty. Gandharva songs used to be sung in his yagnas. There will not be another king like Khanidra on this earth because he had donated this entire earth including the ocean after completing 10000 yagnas. By donating the entire earth to Mahatma Brahmins, he collected liquid through penance and through that he freed the earth. King Khanidra had performed 676767 yagnas and gave abundant dakshina in all of them. The kings did not have any son, so they went to the banks of river Gomti and there, by controlling their speech and body, they started doing severe penance. They prayed to Indra for a child. Satisfied with his penance and devotion, Indra said, O King, I am very pleased with you, ask for a boon. The king said, I do not have any son, hence by your grace I should be blessed with a son. That son should be the best among all the scriptures, be endowed with eternal opulence, be a protector of Dharma and be a Dham Yagna. Indra and Vastu Saying this he blessed the king. The king's wish was fulfilled. Now he came to his city to serve his subjects. There he performed a ritual of Yagna as per the rituals and started serving his subjects with dharma. At that time, by the grace of Indra, he had a son whom his father named Balsara. Then the king taught his son all the weapons. After his father's death, when Balwant ascended the throne, he brought all the kings of the earth under his control. But many mighty kings, all of whom were rich in all kinds of resources and wealth, came together and surrounded King Balwant in his capital. King Bal Subhash was very angry on knowing that the city was under siege, but his treasury was very little, hence due to lack of soldiers, he became very helpless. When he saw no other refuge, he got hurt and started breathing heavily with both his hands in front of his mouth. Then, inspired by the free air from the snap of his fingers, hundreds of warriors, elephants and horses started coming out. Within a moment, the entire city of the king was filled with great respect. Then, taking him out of the city with great respect, they defeated those enemy kings. He defeated them and made everyone his subordinate and imposed taxes on them. To suppress the taxes, he had created a creature who would destroy the enemies, hence he was called King Malpura Kam. Karmadhari Dharma was a friend of all creatures and was famous in all the three worlds. When the king was in trouble, his Dharma itself reached him and provided service by destroying the enemies and then itself made him invisible. King Virya Chandra's beautiful daughter Veerane, who was an observer of excellent fasts, had described Maharaj Karmadha in the Swayamvar. Due to her deeds, the king gave birth to a son named Aashrit. Listen to the question about his name. After the birth of the son, King Karmadha asked the astrologers about his house etc. Then the astrologers said, Maharaj, your son was born in the best Muhurta, best Nakshatra and auspicious Lagna, hence he will be very brave, extremely fortunate and more powerful. Jupiter andVenus in the seventh place and the Moon in the fourth place look at this child, Mercury situated in the eleventh place also looks at him, the Sun and Saturn do not have sight on him, hence he will be blessed with all kinds of wealth, listening to the words of the astrologers, King Kardhan felt very happy in his heart and said that Jupiter and Mercury look at him and he is an unknown creature from the Sun, Saturn and the Sun, hence his name will be Abhikshit, son of Karan Dham, Abhikshit was a great scholar of Vedanta, he learnt the entire art of weaponry from the son of sage Karan, he was Ashwani Kumar in form, Jupiter in intelligence, Moon in revolution, Sun in brightness, he was always like the earth in posture and capability, in bravery there was no one to match him, once upon a time, he went to the swayamvar of King Vishal of Vedic to get his daughter Vaishali, she was beautiful with beautiful teeth and was going ahead of all the kings, meanwhile, Likhit caught her forcefully, he was very proud of his hair, due to his act all the other kings who were gathered in large numbers were insulted, coming back they started talking to each other In the presence of many powerful kings, if a woman is abducted by one of them and you forgive him, then this right is worthy of being given. Chhatri is that which protects those who come close to evil men and does not let their heart be hurt. Those who do not do this, use this name in vain. Which man in the world is not afraid of death, but who has remained immortal even by not fighting? Thinking about this, the Kshatriyas who have scriptures should not abandon their efforts. Hearing this, all the kings were filled with strength and after consulting the kings, all took up their weapons and stood up. Some sat on the roofs, some rode on elephants and horses, and many other kings became angry and went on foot to take on Abhikshit. Abhikshit was alone, against him were many kings and princes. A fierce battle took place between them. It was for sword, power, donkey and bow and arrow. All the kings started attacking Abhikshit, and Prince Abhikshit also fought alone with all those kings and started injuring them by hitting them with hundreds of arrows. Abhikshit cut off the hair of some, severed the neck of some, pierced the chest of some and attacked some at the time, hitting the hair of the approaching enemies. They would cut Abhikshit into two pieces, cut someone's sword and break someone's bow, some escaped after being attacked at night due to their armor being cut, others ran away on foot after being injured by Apekshit's vehicles. In this way when the entire group of kings became distraught then 700 of them decided to show bravery and went for the battle. All of them had the honor of their noble lineage, youth and bravery. When all of them started running away after being defeated then those 700 kings together started fighting with Apekshit. Filled with extreme anger, Abhikshit started fighting according to the rules of Dharma Yuddha. He cut down the weapons and armor of all of them. Then those kings surrounded Abhikshit with thoughts deviating from Dharma and attacked him from all sides with all the four big ones. Pained by the numerous blows he became extremely distraught and fell on the ground in extreme distress. In this condition they all tied him up with Dharma and entered Bedi Nagar with King Vishal. On the banks of the river, King Kar Dhanam, his wife Veer and other kings heard the news of Abhikshit's escape and some people said to Kardanam, "Maharaj" All of them are worthy of doing this as kings. They gathered in large numbers and tied up the prince in a religious manner. Others said, why are you sitting quietly as if you are learning? Prepare the evil Vishal and also tie up all the other kings who had gathered there. Hearing this, the brave son of Veer, who was born in a brave lineage and was the wife of a brave wife, filled with joy said, I am a king, my son has done the right thing by defeating all the kings and forcibly taking over knowledge. There is no need to worry about it. His being tied up in the war is worthy of praise. Now the time has come for weapons to fall on your heads too. Hurry up for the war. Get on your horses and prepare your elephants, horses and companions quickly. There should be no delay. The one who knows glory by defeating everyone is the real one.
