श्रीमद् भागवत कथा पुराण तृतीय स्कंध अध्याय 26 आरंभ
माता देवहूति का कपिल जी द्वारा संज्ञा योग का ज्ञान प्राप्त करना मैथिली जी बोले हैं विदुर जी कपिल जी का अवतार ही ज्ञान उपदेश देने के लिए हुआ था उनके माता धोती को 24 तत्व का ज्ञान प्राप्त किया तत्पश्चात कहानी लगे हे माता अब मैं तुम्हें संख्या योग का ज्ञान बस लाने जा रहा हूं अतः तुम अपने मन से हर तरह की चंचलता का त्याग कर हर प्रकार की चिंता को त्याग कर शुद्ध मन से मेरे नाम का स्मरण कर ध्यान से सुनो संख्या योग का ज्ञान अति गुण ज्ञान होने के साथ अति उत्तम है अतः तुम किसी से इसकी चर्चा मत करना क्योंकि संसार में रहकर जब तक पूजा पाठ करना झूठा सिद्ध हो सकता है सांसारिक माया झूठी हो सकती है इस प्रकार का विचार करना सर्वथा अनुचित है इसलिए कि पाप अथवा पुण्य का फल प्राणियों को कर्मानुसार अवश्य भोगना पड़ता है ठीक उस आदमी की तरह जो जंगल से लकड़ियां काटकर निरंतर प्रतिदिन बेचने ले जाता था और लकड़ियां बेचकर अपना एवं अपने कुटुम का भरण पोषण करता था एक दिन दोपहर में गर्मी से बेहाल होकर एक पेड़ के नीचे लकड़ी का गट्ठा उतारकर नजदीक के पुणे से शीतल जल निकालकर पिया और आराम करने लगा कुछ देर बाद उसने देखा कि सुंदर घोड़े पर सवार एक घुड़सवार वहां आया घोड़े को रोक कर वह नीचे उतरा और कुएं से पानी निकाल कर किया तत्पश्चात घोड़े पर सवार होकर अपने रास्ते चला गया उसका सुख देखकर लकड़हारा अपने मन में विचार ने लगा कि मेरे पास भी एक घोड़ा होता तो मेरे पांव युगल धूल में ना जलते और ना सोचते सोचते वहां की मुहूर्त पर सो गया थकान के कारण उसे गहरी नींद आई क्योंकि जगरा अवस्था में उसने घोड़े के प्राप्ति का चिंतन किया इसलिए वह भावना उसके आज चेतना मन में सुरक्षित रह गई और नींद प्राप्त करते ही स्वप्न रुपए में देखा कि मैं घोड़े पर सवार होकर घोड़ों के सरपट दौड़ा के लिए जा रहा हूं अचानक तेज झटका लगा और वह घोड़े से गिर गया स्वप्न अवस्था में वह जोर से उछलता और कुएं में जा गिरा और उसके हाथ पैर टूट गए लकड़हारे की कथा सुनने के पश्चात कपिल देव जी देव होती से बोले हैं माते जिस प्रकार लकड़हारे को घोड़ा प्राप्त होना झूठा और कुएं में गिरकर हाथ पैर टूटना सत्य था उसी प्रकार सांसारिक सुख अर्थात भौतिक सुख को स्वप्न के समान समझना चाहिए अतः धनसंपदा वस्त्र आभूषण आदि को पाकर सुख समझता है वह प्राणी भारी अज्ञानी का शिकार होकर अपने परलोक को खराब करता है परंतु जो मनुष्य भागवत कृपा को सुख समझते हैं प्रभु की समस्त इच्छाओं का आदर कर उनके नाम का स्मरण करते हैं जो प्रभु की भक्ति में अपना ज्यादा समय बिताते हैं उन्हें वास्तविक सुख की प्राप्ति होती है स्वयं प्रभु श्री हरि उसे प्रसन्न रहते हैं लकड़हारे की कथा सुनने के उपरांत विभूति अधिक विनम्र होकर बोली आपने प्रभु के प्रसन्न होने की बात बतलाई या आपकी अति कृपा है किंतु बिना नेत्रों से देखें उनकी पहचान कैसे होती है देवहूति क वचन सुनकर कपिल जी बोले पुनः बोले माता तुम चिंतित ना हो मैंने जो ज्ञान तुम्हें प्रदान किया है उस ज्ञान रूपी दृष्टि से और विचार दृष्टि से सब कुछ संभव है जब प्रभु की कृपा प्राणियों को प्राप्त हो जाती है तो उसके लिए कुछ भी असंभव नहीं रह जाता जिस तरह प्रभु का चमत्कार रूपी तत्व जिससे आत्मा कहते हैं कि शरीर से निकलते ही समस्त इंद्रियों क्रिया हीनं हो जाती है उस आत्मा स्वरूप परमात्मा के बिना सब कुछ व्यर्थ हो जाता है देव किसी काम की नहीं रहती पुनः ज्ञान तक तो समझते हुए कपिल जी बोले जिस तरह बिलासी व्यक्ति की संपत्ति व्यस्य रमन करने से नष्ट हो जाती है उसी प्रकार प्रभु की माया है अर्थात मेरे माया है मेरी माया विधि प्रकार से प्राणी को चलने का प्रयास करती है किंतु मेरी शरण में रहने वालों को मेरे माया प्रभावित नहीं करती तब ज्योति बोली आपके ज्ञान उपदेश से मेरी उचित बुद्धि में ज्ञान का संचार हुआ जिसे मैं अति प्रसन्न हूं किंतु हे प्रभु सांसारिक माया में लिप्त रहने वाले प्राणियों का प्रभु के चरण के प्रति करना बहुत कठिन ज्ञान पड़ता है स्वयं अभी तक मैं सांसारिक माया से भी रफीक नहीं प्राप्त कर सके आपके पिताश्री के वन गमन के पश्चात उन्होंने एक पल के लिए भी नहीं भूल पाई हूं अतः मुझ पर कृपा करके कोई सरल उपाय बताने की कृपा करें जिससे मुझे इस नश्वर शरीर का मोह भंग होकर प्रभु रूप का स्मरण करने लग माता के वचन सुनकर कपिल जी बोले जिस तरह तीर्थ यात्रा के लिए घर से निकलने के पश्चात प्राणी निरंतर चलता रहता है और 1 दिन उस निश्चित स्थान तक पहुंच जाता है जहां उसे जाना पड़ता है उसी तरह श्रीहरि को प्राप्त करने हेतु उनका दर्शन लाभ प्राप्त करने हेतु धीरे-धीरे मन को एकाग्र करना चाहिए मन वह विशाल वृक्ष है जिसकी हजारों शाखाएं किंतु उन शाखाओं को हरा भरा रखने के लिए मूल जड़ को खींचा जाता है जिस तरह चंचलता भटकती है मार्ग में विचलित करती है उस पर एकाएक पूर्ण रूप से अधिकार पाना कठिन है इसलिए धीरे-धीरे उसे मोना चाहिए कभी निराश नहीं होना चाहिए एवं प्रभु का सच्चे मन से भजन पूजा करना चाहिए कथा सुनना कीर्ति करना आदि परमात्मा को प्राप्त करने के उत्तम साधन है ज्ञानी ऋषि-मुनियों के पूजा करने के तीन रूपों का वर्णन किया है जिसे भक्ति में भक्ति भी कहते हैं राष्ट्रीय तामसी एवं तापसी जिसका वर्णन मैं कर चुका हूं किंतु एक भक्ति और भी है जिसे निर्गुण भक्ति कहते हैं इस भक्ति को करने वाला साधा किसी वस्तु की प्राप्ति की इच्छा नहीं करता वह अपना सर्वत्र प्रभु के नाम अर्पित कर देता है जबकि राष्ट्रीय तामसी एवं सात्विक भक्ति करने वाला प्राणी मन में किसी ना किसी वस्तु की प्राप्ति की इच्छा अवश्य करता है हे माता देवी को संबोधित करते हुए कपिल जी बोले मेरे कथा एवं कीर्तन का श्रवण करते समय जो भक्त अत्यंत भावविभोर होकर कीर्तन स्थल पर ही रो देता है वह मनुष्य मुझे अति प्रिय होता है भले ही वह शुद्र हो उसके प्रति मेरे मन में यह इच्छा रहती है कि मैं उसे कौन सी ऐसी वस्तु प्रदान करूं जिससे मैं उसके भक्ति रूप ऋण से मुक्त हो जाऊं और जो प्राणी प्रभु की भक्ति एवं नाम का स्मरण नहीं करता वह मृत्यु पश्चात ना कर्मी होता है उसकी दुर्गति होती है और पुनः 9 योनियों में जन्म लेकर भटकना होता है भागवत भक्ति एवं ज्ञान तत्व को जानने हेतु मनुष्य तन सर्वोत्तम है जिसने मनुष्य तन पाकर भी प्रभु के नाम का सुमिरन भक्ति एवं जब तक नहीं किया उसका जन्म लेना पशु से भी गया गुजरा है

The best means of achieving this is the three forms of worship of the wise sages have been described, which are also called bhakti in bhakti, national tamas and tapasis, which I have described, but there is one more devotion which is called nirguna bhakti. The sadhak who does this does not desire to get anything, he dedicates himself everywhere in the name of the Lord, while the person doing national tamas and sattvik devotion definitely desires to get something or the other in the mind. Kapil ji said that while listening to my story and kirtan, the devotee who cries at the place of kirtan with great emotion, that person is very dear to me, even if he is a Shudra, there is a desire in my mind for him as to who I want him to be.I should provide such a thing by which I can be freed from the debt of his devotion and the creature who does not remember the name and devotion of God, he is neither a karma after death, he suffers misfortune and again has to wander after taking birth in 9 types of devotion. And the human body is the best to know the element of knowledge, who even after getting a human body, has gone through the animal's birth until he has done devotion to the name of the Lord.
