है ऋषियों इधर अपनी तपस्या के पूर्ण हो जाने पर नारद जी को योग दृष्टि द्वारा यह ज्ञात हुआ कि उन पर विजय प्राप्त करने के लिए यह कामदेव आया था परंतु वह असफल मनोरथ होकर लौट गया है तो उसके हृदय में कुछ अहंकार उत्पन्न हो गया उन्होंने यह समझा कि वह कामदेव से अधिक शक्तिशाली है इस रहस्य को हुए नहीं जान सके कि यह मेरा नहीं अभी तो इस तपोभूमि का प्रभाव है अस्तु नारद जी अपने तपो बल पर अत्यंत गर्व करते हुए वहां से उठकर शिव जी के पास जा पहुंचे और अत्यंत प्रसन्न होकर अपनी तपस्या का सब हाल सुनाने लगे नारद जी की बात सुनकर शिव जी ने उन्हें समझाते हुए कहा है देवर्षि कामदेव पर विजय पाने की सामर्थ तीनों लोक में किसी के पास नहीं है तुमने मुझे यह बात कही परंतु मैं तुम्हें समझता हूं कि तुम विष्णु लोक में जाकर इस बात को मत कहा बैठना तुम इस बात को अपने मन में गुप्त ही रहना रखना है ऋषियों अहंकार में डूबे हुए भारत जी को शिव जी की यह बात अच्छी नहीं लगी वस्तु वे उन्हें विदा लेकर ब्रह्मा जी के समीप जा पहुंचे वहां भी उन्होंने अपनी प्रसन्नता करते हुए तपस्या तथा कामदेव पर विजय पाने का वृतांत का सुनाया अपने पुत्र नारद कि उसे अहंकार को देखकर ब्रह्मा जी ने भी भगवान सदा शिव की भांति उन्हें बहुत कुछ समझाया परंतु नारद जी के हृदय में अहंकार अपना घर बैठा था इसलिए पिता का समझना भी उन्हें अच्छा नहीं लगता और वहां से उठकर विष्णु लोक में जा पहुंचे नारद जी को आया हुआ देखकर भगवान विष्णु मैं अपने आसन से उठकर उन्हें अपने कांड से लगाते हुए पूछा है देवर्षि आप तक आप कहां रहे यह सुनकर नारा जी ने अपनी तपस्या तथा कामदेव पर विजय प्राप्त करने का संपूर्ण वृतांत उनसे भी यह कह दिय उसे समाचार को सुनकर भगवान विष्णु शिव की इच्छा समझकर मन ही मन मुस्कुराते हुए बोले हैं नारद जी जो मनुष्य ब्रह्म ज्ञानी नहीं है और परम ब्रह्म की आराधना से रहित है उन्हीं के हृदय में मुंह की उत्पत्ति होती है आप तो ब्रह्मचारी व्रत को धारण करने वाले हैं तब भला कामदेव आपका अनिष्ट कैसे कर सकता है भगवान विष्णु के मुख से इन शब्दों को सुनकर नारद जी भी अहंकार में भरे गए और तथा इस प्रकार अभी महत्वपूर्ण वचन बोले हे प्रभु मुझे यह शक्ति आपकी कृपा से ही प्राप्त हुई है हे रिसीवड इतना कह कर नाराज जी भगवान विष्णु से विदा लेकर चल दिए उसे समय भगवान सदाशिव ने अपने हृदय में यह इच्छा की कि मुझे नारद का अहंकार दूर कर देना चाहिए आज तो उसकी इच्छा से जिस मार्ग से नारद जी चले जा रहे थे उसे मार्ग में स्वर्ग के समान सुंदर एक श्रेष्ठ नगर शीघ्र ही बस गया उसे नगर में सिल निधि नामक राजा राज करता था जिस समय नारद जी उसे नगर से होकर जा रहे थे उसे समय उसे राजा की कन्या के स्वयंवर का आयोजन हो रहा था उसे राज का नया की सुगंध पर संपूर्ण संसार मगध तथा नगर वासियों द्वारा जब नारद जी हो या वृतांत ज्ञात हुआ तो वह भी उसे स्वयंवर सभा में जा पहुंचे अब राजाशील निधि ने अपनी सभा में नारद जी को पधारते देखा तो उससे आगे बढ़कर उसका अत्यंत सम्मान किया फिर उन्होंने ले जाकर अपनी आसन पर बैठा दिया इस उपरांत उसे राजा ने अपनी परम सुंदर कन्या को भी बुलाकर नारा जी के सम्मुख उपस्थित कर दिया बहुत समय तक नाराज उसे कन्या के अनुपम स्वरूप को आप पलक दृष्टि से रखते रहे तदुपरांत जब उन्होंने उसे कन्या के लक्षण का विचार किया तो यह पाया कि जो भी मनुष्य इस कन्या का पति होगा वह संसार में अमर होकर अक्षय तृतीया को प्राप्त करेगा और युद्ध में कभी किसी से भी परास्त ना हो सकेगा कन्या के इन लक्षणों को विचार कर नारद जी वहां से उठकर अपने मार्ग पर फिर चल दिए परंतु इस समय उनका मन काम के वशीभूत होकर उसे कन्या को स्वयं प्राप्त करने को लालायित हो रहे था इस प्रकार हुए अपने बुद्धि के विपरीत कामदेव के जाल में फंस गए उन्होंने यह भी विचार किया कि जब तक मैं सुंदर नहीं हूं तब तक मुझे उसे कन्या का मिलना संभव है क्योंकि स्त्रियां शुद्ध वार्ता को ही अधिक प्यार करती है आज तू मुझे यह उचित है कि मैं भगवान विष्णु से उनकी सुंदरता मांग लो और राजकुमारी को मोहित कर अपने साथ विवाह करने के लिए उसे तैयार कर लूं
