इतनी कथा सुनकर नारद जी बोले हे पिता शिवलिंग की पूजा किस प्रकार से प्रारंभ हुई या आप मुझे सुनने की कृपा करें ब्रह्मा जी ने कहा हे नारद लिंग की पूजा सनातन से चली आई है उनका प्रारंभ नहीं बताया जा सकता फिर भी हमने कल भेद के अनुसार जो का सुना है वह तुम्हें सुनाते हैं सुप्रसिद्ध दारू वन में शिव जी के बहुत से भागता रहा करते थे वहां रहने वाले ऋषि मुनि तीनों समय शिवजी का पूजन करते उसके नाम का स्मरण करते एवं हवन आदि शुभकामना किया करते थे इस प्रकार उन्हें बहुत समय व्यतीत हो गया तब शिवजी ने अपने मन मे उन्हें दर्शन देने की इच्छा की हे नारद एक दिन हुए ऋषि मुनि भोजन की खोज में अपने घरों से बाहर गए हुए थे उसी समय भगवान सदाशिव सती के वियोग में व्याकुल हो उसे वन में जा पहुंचे उसे समय ऋषि मुनियों की स्त्रियों ने उन्हें देखा तो पहले तो वह इधर-उधर भाग परंतु खीर शिवजी की माया के वसीभूत हो अपने घरों से बाहर निकाल कर उसके समीप जा पहुंची और काम पीड़ा हो मिथुन की इच्छा से उनके समीप खड़ी हो गई दादू प्रांत काम का अधिक वेज बढ़ने पर हुए राजा को त्याग कर शिवजी के शरीर से लिपट गई उसे समय ऋषि मुनि भी लौटकर आ गए जब उन्होंने अपनी स्त्रियों की ऐसी दशा देखी तो हुए शिवजी को साधारण मनुष्य जानकर अत्यंत क्रुद्ध हुए और उन्हें यह श्राप दिया कि तुम्हारा लिंग इसी समय काटकर गिर जाए हे नारद उसके शराब के कारण शिवजी का लिंग काटकर पृथ्वी पर गिर पड़ा तदुपरांत शिवजी की माया से वह लिंग तीनों लोक में ब्राह्मण करता हुआ सबको जलने लगा उसे समय तीनों लोक के प्राणी उन ऋषि मुनियों सहित मेरे पास आए और इस प्रकार कहने लगे हे प्रभु यह कैसा चरित्र है जिसके कारण संपूर्ण सृष्टि भस्म हुई जाती है इसकी प्रार्थना सुन मैंने ध्यान धरकर सब हाल जानने परंतु उसे ऋषि मुनियों से यह कहां ए है मुनियों तुमने अपनी मूर्खता के वशीभूत होकर जो कर्म किया है उसका फल सब लोग को भोगना पड़ रहा है भगवान सदाशिव तुम्हारी परीक्षा लेने के निर्माता तुम लोगों के घर गए थे परंतु तुमने अपने आज्ञा के कारण उन्हें नहीं पहचान को श्राप दे दिया आप शिवजी का लिंग तीनों लोकों में ब्राह्मण कर रहा है माय तथा विष्णु जी शिव जी की सेवा करें अब जब तक वह शिवलिंग अपने स्थान पर स्थित नहीं हो जाता तब तक सृष्टि में आनंद नहीं होगा इसलिए उचित है कि तुम सब लोग शिवजी की शरण में जाओ और उन्हें प्रसन्न करो हे नारद इतना कह कर मैं विष्णु जी को साथ ले उन ऋषि मुनियों सहित शिव जी के शरण में गया हम सब लोग ने शिवजी की बहुत स्तुति की तब शिवजी ने प्रसन्न होकर हमसे वरदान मांगने के लिए कहा उसे समय हमने उनसे यह प्रार्थना की है प्रभु आप अपने लिंग को रोक कर सृष्टि को भस्म होने से बचाए या सुनकर शिवजी ने उत्तर दिया है देवताओं या यदि गिरजा यानी रूपी होकर हमारे लिंग को धारण करें तो हम शांत हो जाएंगे शिवजी के मुख से यह वचन सुनकर हम सब देवताओं ने निराकार स्वरूप आदि शक्ति गिरजा की प्रार्थना की तब उन्होंने यानी रूप होकर शिवजी का लिंग धारण कर लिया उसे समय तीनों लोगों को अत्यंत आनंद प्राप्त हुआ और सब लोग शिव गिरजा की स्तुति करने लगे हे नारद शिवाजी ने सब लोगों को यह आज्ञा दी की तुम लोग हमारे लिंग का पूजा करो अन्यथा ठीक ना होगा तब शिवजी की आज्ञा पाकर सब लोग ने उन्हें दशा में शिव जी की पूजन किया तभी से संसार में लिंग पूजा प्रचलित हुआ है

When her lust increased, she left the king and clung to Shiva's body. At that time the sages and saints also returned. When they saw such a condition of their women, they became very angry, thinking Shiva to be an ordinary man, and cursed him that his penis should be cut off and fall down right now. O Narada, due to his alcohol, Shiva's penis was cut off and fell on the earth. Thereafter, due to Shiva's illusion, that penis started burning everyone, burning in three worlds. At that time, the creatures of three worlds came to me along with those sages and saints and started saying, O Lord, what kind of character is this, due to which the entire creation is getting burnt? Listen to his prayer, I tried to know everything by paying attention, but the sages and saints said this, sages, everyone is having to suffer the consequences of the deeds you have done under the influence of your foolishness. Lord Sadashiv, the creator, had gone to your house to test you, but due to your orders, you did not recognize him and cursed him. Shiva's penis is burning in three worlds. Mother and Vishnu serve Shiva. Now until that Shivling is not situated in its place, there will be no happiness in the universe, so it is appropriate that all of you go to the shelter of Shiva and please him, O Narada. Saying this, I took Vishnu along with me and went to the shelter of Shiva along with those sages and saints. We all praised Shiva a lot, then Shiva, being pleased, asked us to ask for a boon. At that time we prayed to him that Lord, by stopping your Linga, save the universe from being destroyed. On hearing this, Shiva replied that if you take a form, i.e. Girja, wear our Linga, then we will be calm. On hearing these words from Shiva's mouth, all of us gods prayed to the formless Adi Shakti Girja, then she took a form, i.e. wore Shiva's Linga. At that time, all three people got immense happiness and everyone started praising Shiva Girja, O Narada. Shivaji ordered everyone that you people should worship our Linga, otherwise it will not be good. Then, after getting Shiva's order, everyone worshipped Shiva in that form.
