श्री शिव महापुराण कथा आठवां खंड अध्याय 29

ब्रह्मा जी ने कहा हे नारद अपने पिता की मृत्यु का समाचार सुनकर भी ने अपने मन मे अत्यंत क्रुद्ध हुआ तथा यह विचार करने लगा कि देवताओं ने मेरे साथ बहुत बुरा किया है जो उन्हें विष्णु की सहायता लेकर मेरे कल को नष्ट कर दिया इसके अतिरिक्त या नियम भी है कि जो पुत्र अपने पिता का बदला ना ले सके उसे अत्यंत निशा समझना चाहिए अस्तु अब मैं देवताओं से अपने पिता की मृत्यु का बदला चुकाऊंगा हे नारद यह विचार कर परंतु भी यह बात हम इसलिए कह रहे हैं कि यदि आपने उसे वर्क नहीं दिया तो उसके उपग्रह करने से पूर्व ही हम सब इस अग्नि में जलकर भस्म हो जाएंगे हे नारद देवताओं की प्रार्थना सुनकर मैं उसे देखते के पास जा पहुंचा जिसे वह मांगने के लिए कहने लगा उसे समय भी ने मेरी प्रार्थना करते हुए यह कहा है ब्राह्मण आप मुझे ऐसा अपरिमेय बोल देने की कृपा करें जिसके द्वारा मैं अपने पिता के शत्रुओं पर विजय प्राप्त कर सकूं या सुनकर बाय उसे इच्छित वरदान देकर अपने लोग को लौट आया तब भी अत्यंत प्रसन्न हो अपनी माता के पास जाकर कहने लगा है माता अब मैं सब देवताओं तथा मुनियों का वध कर डालूंगा यह कहने के उपरांत उसे देते ने एक भयानक शब्द किया जिसे सुनकर तीनों लोक कांपने लगे आज तो सब देते क्यों ने उसके पास पहुंचकर उसे अपना राजा बना दिया साधु प्रांत हुआ आदेशों की सेवा लेकर इंद्र पर चढ़ाई करने के लिए चल दिया हे नारद जिस समय वह दतिया इंद्रलोक में पहुंचा उसे समय सब देवता उसके भाई से भयभीत हो विष्णु जी की शरण में गए और उनसे अपनी रक्षा करने की प्रार्थना करने लगे तब विष्णु जी उन्हें साथ लेकर उसे दैत्य से युद्ध करने के लिए गए विष्णु ने अस्त्र-शस्त्र का प्रयोग किया परंतु वह किसी भी प्रकार विचलित नहीं हुआ यह देख विष्णु जी ने अत्यंत क्रुद्ध हो अपने हाथ में ब्रह्मास्त्र उठाया उसे समय या आकाशवाणी हुई है विष्णु तुम इस दैत्य पर विजय प्राप्त नहीं कर सको तो अपने लोग को लौट आओ इस दैत्य का संघार भगवान सदा शिव द्वारा होगा इस प्रकार वाणी को सुनकर विष्णु जी तुरंत मंत्र ध्यान हो गए तब भी देवताओं पर विजय प्राप्त कर अपनी सुना सहित घर लौट आया उसने देवताओं के स्थान पर व्यक्तियों को प्रतिष्ठित किया और उसके सब रतन छीन लिए

Brahma Ji said, O Narada, on hearing the news of his father's death, Bhishma became very angry in his mind and started thinking that the gods have done very wrong to me by taking the help of Vishnu and destroying my future. Besides this, there is also a rule that a son who cannot take revenge for his father should be considered extremely bad. So now I will take revenge for my father's death from the gods, O Narada, thinking this, but we are saying this because if you do not give him a boon, then before he can do anything, we will all be burnt to ashes in this fire. O Narada, on hearing the prayers of the gods, I went to Bhishma and he started asking me to ask for it. Bhishma while praying to me said, "Brahmin, please give me such an irrational thing by which I can win over my father's enemies." On hearing this, Bhishma gave him the desired boon and returned to his people. Then Bhishma became very happy and went to his mother and said, "Mother, now I will kill all the gods and sages." After saying this, Bhishma made a terrible sound, on hearing which all the three worlds started trembling. All the gods reached him and made him their king. The sage became a follower of the order and set out to attack Indra. O Narada, when he reached Datiya Indralok, all the gods, fearing his brother, went to Vishnu ji for refuge and started praying to him to protect them. Then Vishnu ji took them along to fight with the demon. Vishnu used all kinds of weapons, but he did not get disturbed in any way. Seeing this, Vishnu ji became very angry and picked up Brahmastra in his hand. He heard a voice from the sky saying, Vishnu, if you cannot defeat this demon, then return to your people. This demon will be destroyed by Lord Sada Shiva. On hearing this voice, Vishnu ji immediately got engrossed in mantra meditation. Even then, after defeating the gods, he returned home with his son. He installed men in place of gods and snatched away all his gems.
