ब्रह्मा जी बोले हे नारद अब मैं बैजनाथ नामक नव ज्योति लिंक का वर्णन करता हूं उसका दर्शन स्पर्श एवं पूजन करने से अत्यंत आनंद प्राप्त होता है वह संसार में धन स्त्री पुत्र आदि की प्रसन्नता एवं परलोक में मोक्ष प्रदान करने वाले हैं मेरे पुत्र पुलिस सूत्व द्वारा विश्राव नामक एक पुत्र उत्पन्न हुआ उसके तीन विवाह हुए विश्राव की पहली पत्नी के गर्व से शिवाजी की मित्र धनपति कुबेर का जन्म हुआ दूसरी पत्नी द्वारा रावण तथा कुंभकरण नामक दो लड़कों का जन्म हुआ तथा तीसरी पत्नी द्वारा विभीषण नमक हरि भक्त का जन्म हुआ इन चारों बालकों में रावण अत्यंत बलवान तथा स्वतंत्रता था उसका बल तथा यस तीनों लोक में प्रसिद्ध है एक बार रावण ने कैलाश पर्वत पर पहुंचकर शिवजी की तपस्या की परंतु तप करते हुए बहुत समय व्यतीत हो जाने पर शिवजी उसे पर प्रसन्न न हुए नारद तब रावण उसे स्थान से हटकर तपस्या करने के हेतु हिमालय पर्वत पर गया वहां वह पर्वत की दाहिनी ओर एक स्थान पर बैठकर पुनः उग्र तप करने में प्रभावित हुआ परंतु तब भी शिवजी ने उसे दर्शन देने की कृपा नहीं की हे नारद यह देख कर रावण अत्यंत चिंतित हो मन ही मन अपने को भी करता हुआ इस प्रकार कहने लगा मेरे इस अपार बल तथा शरीर को अधिकार है जो बहुत देर तक अपने को धिकारने के उपरांत उसे हवन करना आरंभ किया जब उसने भी शिवाजी प्रसन्न न हुई तब रावण ने यह निश्चय किया कि आप मुझे अपना शरीर अग्नि की भेंट कर देना चाहिए वह अपने 10 मस्को में से एक-एक मस्तक को काटकर अग्नि में हवन करने लगा जब वह नव मस्तक काट चुका और दसवा मस्तक काटने के लिए उड़ा हुआ उसे समय शिवजी प्रसन्न होकर उसके सम्मुख प्रकट हो गए और हाथ पकड़ कर वर मांगने के लिए कहने लग हे नारद शिव जी ने रावण के सभी मस्को को पुणे कटे हुए स्थान पर स्थित कर दिया तथा प्रसन्न होकर वर मांगने के लिए कहा उसे समय रावण ने अत्यंत आनंद मग्न हो हाथ जोड़कर प्रार्थना करते हुए यह कहा हे प्रभु माय अत्यंत पराक्रमी होना चाहता हूं तथा यह चाहता हूं कि आप मेरे नगर में चलकर निवास करें यह सुनकर शिव जी ने उत्तर दिया है रावण तुम हमारे लिंग को उठाकर ले जाओ तथा उसका सदैव पूजन किया करो परंतु यदि तुमने इस लिंक को मार्ग में कहीं रख दिया तो वह वहीं पर स्थित हो जाएगा और दूसरे साथ नहीं जाएगा रावण इस बात को स्वीकार करते हुए बोला हे प्रभु आप दो स्वरूप में विभाजित हो जाए तब मैं आपको कांवर पर उठा कर अपने नगर में ले आऊंगा यह सुनकर शिवजी ने अपने दो लिंग स्वरूप धारण किया रावण उन दोनों शिवलिंगों को कांवर में दोनों और रख कर ले चला जब वह कुछ दूर आगे निकल आया तब शिवजी ने यह चरित्र किया कि रावण को लो लघु शंका करने की इच्छा हुई उसे समय रावण अत्यंत व्याकुल हुआ और यह सोचने लगा कि यदि कोई व्यक्ति यहां मिल जाए और कुछ देर के लिए इस खबर को उठा रहे तो मैं लघु शंकर निवारण कर लूंगा उसे समय वहां उसे एक गांव चराने वाला दिखाई दिया रावण ने उनसे यह प्रार्थना की कि तुम कुछ देर के लिए इस कवर को अपने कंधे पर उठा रख जिससे मैं लघु शंकर कर लूं या सुनकर चरवाहे ने उत्तर दिया है रावण में तो दो घड़ी तक इस खबर को लिए रहूंगा परंतु इस समय के भीतर यदि तुमने कंवर को ना ले लिया तो मैं इस पृथ्वी पर रख दूंगा रावण ने अहीर किया बात स्वीकार कर ली परंतु वह उसे कवर देकर स्वयं लघु संकाय करने बैठ गया

Brahma Ji said, O Narada, now I am describing the Nav Jyoti Link named Baijnath. By seeing, touching and worshipping it, one gets immense bliss. It gives happiness of wealth, women, children etc. in this world and salvation in the next world. My son Pulis Sutva gave birth to a son named Vishrava. He married three times. From the first wife of Vishrava, Shivaji's friend Dhanpati Kuber was born. By the second wife, two boys named Ravana and Kumbhakaran were born and by the third wife, a Hari devotee named Vibhishan was born. Out of these four children, Ravana was very strong and independent. His strength and power are famous in all the three worlds. Once Ravana reached Kailash mountain and did penance of Shiva, but after a lot of time passed in penance, Shiva was not pleased with him. Narada, then Ravana went to the Himalayas to do penance by moving from that place. There he sat at a place on the right side of the mountain and again did intense penance. But even then Shiva did not give him the grace of giving darshan. O Narada, seeing this, Ravana became very worried and started saying in his mind, "I love this immense strength and body of mine." After cursing himself for a long time, he started performing havan. When he too did not please Shivaji, then Ravana decided that he should offer his body to the fire. He started performing havan by cutting off one head of his 10 heads in the fire. When he had cut off nine heads and was about to cut off the tenth head, Shiva appeared before him, pleased and holding his hand, and asked him to ask for a boon. O Narada, Shiva placed all the heads of Ravana at the place where he had cut them and asked him to ask for a boon. Ravana, being very happy, folded his hands and prayed, “O Lord, I want to be very powerful and I want you to come and live in my city.” Hearing this, Shiva replied, “Ravana, you take my linga and always worship it. But if you keep this linga somewhere on the way, it will stay there and will not go with the other person.” Accepting this, Ravana said, “O Lord, when you divide yourself into two forms, then I will take you on a palanquin.” On hearing this Shivji assumed the form of two lingas. Ravana carried both the Shivlingas on both sides of the Kaanwar. When he went a little ahead then Shivji performed this act that Ravana felt like urinating. At that time Ravana became very anxious and started thinking that if I find someone here and can carry this Kaanwar for some time then I will be able to urinate. At that time he saw a village shepherd there and Ravana requested him to carry this Kaanwar on his shoulder for some time so that I can urinate. On hearing this the shepherd replied that Ravana will carry this Kaanwar for two hours but within this time if you do not take the Kaanwar then I will leave it on this earth. Ravana accepted the words of Ahir but after giving the cover to him he himself sat down to urinate.
