शंकर जी का यानी पीठ कामरूप कामाख्या में जाकर तपस्या करना जगदंबा द्वारा प्रगट होकर सीख रही गाढ़ा तथा हिमालय पुत्री पार्वती के रूप में आवर्त होने का उन्हें वर्ग प्रदान करना भगवान शंकर द्वारा 51 शक्तिपीठों में प्रधान कामरूप पीठ के महत्व का प्रतिपादन श्री महादेव जी बोले तब नारद जी ने विष्णु भगवान के पास जाकर घटित घटनाओं और देव आदि देव के सारे व्यवहार का यथावत वर्णन किया शिव जी के व्याकुल्चित होकर श्रापित करने की बात सुनकर ब्रह्मा सहित भगवान विष्णु कम रूप प्रदेश में गए हुए वहां शौक से व्याकुल जीते हुए भगवान महेश को जिनका सारा शरीर आंसुओं से भीगा सा गया था देखने और 57 देने गए थे उसे दोनों को आया देखकर भगवान शिव अपने पत्नी सती को अनेक प्रकार से याद करते हुए सामान्य जननी की तरह मुक्त कांड से रुद्रन करने लगे ब्रह्मा और विष्णु बोल देव देवेश शंकर आप इस प्रकार व्यर्थ ही क्यों रो रहे हैं आप जानते हैं कि सती विद्यमान है अतः सारी बात जानने वाली आपका मूड अशोक करना उचित नहीं है शिवजी बोले आप लोग ठीक कहते हैं मैं जानता हूं की सती प्राकृतिक स्वरूप है वह सुधा नित्य ब्रह्म में और सृष्टि स्थिति तथा संघार करने वाली है दक्ष यज्ञ के नष्ट होने के बाद मैंने उन्हें अपनी आंखों से इस रूप में देखा भी है लेकिन पहले की तरह पत्नी भाव से अपने घर में उन महेश्वरी को न पाकर इस समय मेरा मन अत्यंत व्याकुल हो रहा है इसलिए ब्राह्मण विष्णु में पूर्व बाद उन्हें कैसे प्राप्त करूंगा आप मुझे आप इसका उपाय बताएं ब्रह्मा और विष्णु भोले देव आप शांत जीत होकर इस काम रूपी पीठ में रहकर मन में महादेव का ध्यान करते हुए समाहित गीत से तात्पर्य करें यह महापित है या ही परमेश्वरी साक्षात विराजमान होकर अपने साधकों को प्रत्यक्ष फल प्रदान करती है इसे संयम नहीं की सीट पीठ का महत्व कौन बता सकता है आप तो परमेश्वर है सर्वज्ञ सब कुछ जानते हैं हम लोग आपको क्या बताएं शिव अब आप शांत चित हो जाए शिवजी बोले मैं अब यहीं रहकर स्थिर जीत हो आगरा तपस्या करूंगा जैसा कि आप दोनों ने अभी कहा है श्री महादेव जी बोले इतना कह कर शिवजी ने कामरूप सिद्ध पीठ पर उन परमेश्वरी जगदंबा का ध्यान करते हुए शांत क्यों समाहित जीत होकर तब किया ब्रह्मा और विष्णु भी इस महापित पर रहते हुए समाहित जीत होकर कठोर और परम तप करने लगे बहुत समय बिकने पर जगदंबा प्रसन्न हुए और उन जगदंबा माता नेत्रियों की मोहिनी रूप में उन्हें प्रत्यक्ष दर्शन दिया महादेवी ने पूछा कि आपकी क्या भी अभिलाषा है बतलाएं शिवजी बोले परमेश्वरी जिस प्रकार आप पहले मेरी ग्रहणी बनकर रहती थी वैसे ही कृपा पूर्वक पुनः रहे देवी जी बोली महेश्वर शीघ्र ही में हिमालय की पुत्री बनाकर स्वयं अवतार लूंगी और नीचे ही माय ही दो रूपों में सामने आऊंगी जो कि आपने सती के शरीर को सिर पर उठाकर हर्ष पूर्वक नित्य किया था पता मैं उसके हाथ में जल में बड़ा रूप धारण करके आपको ही प्रतिरूप में प्राप्त करके आपके सिर पर विराजमान रहूंगी दूसरी रूप से मैं पार्वती होकर आपके घर में पत्नी भाव से रहूंगी शंकर महावत माटी मेरा यह रूप पूर्ण अवतार होगा

Devi ji said, Maheshwar, soon I will incarnate myself as the daughter of Himalaya and will appear below in two forms as Maay, which you had done happily every day by lifting the body of Sati on your head. In the first form, I will take a bigger form in the water in her hand and will get you in your replica and will sit on your head. In the second form, I will stay in your house as your wife.
